Reverend Jax Posted December 2, 2008 Share Posted December 2, 2008 I wanted to see this movie when it was in theaters, but never got the chance. I finally borrowed the DVD from Nickurtins last week and watched it with my mom over thanksgiving weekend. It was excellent, and my mom was very moved by the similarities to her experiences in Cuba, growing up around revolutionary fervor and seeing a country transform into a dictatorship. While the political angle was very interesting, it was the human story and Marjane's personality that takes this from a good movie to a great one. The movie goes back and forth from tradegy to comedy and strikes the exactly appropriate balance. As far as comic book adaptations, it's up there. It's still not quite up there with American Splendor, but it's competitive with the likes of V for Vendetta. A must see. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
