So MH snoozed, can I go then?

I'm gonna go.

For Jax, the greatest Irish musician of all time and one the best Blues artists full stop.

Rory Gallagher - Walk On Hot Coals (Live Madrid 1975)

+5 to ASC. Straight outta the era when every rock band wanted to sound like Zeppelin, and most sounded better for the effort. While the drumming was good in its own right, I don't think that specific beat suited the song. I feel like a mid-tempo, bass driving beat with more hi-hat and far less frequent crash cymbals would have really pulled it together better. Also, while the vocals are obviously the least important part of a blues song of that specific style, they were underwhelming. Could be that specific song, or that specific recording, or Rory's vocal talents in a live performance, or maybe he's just not an impressive vocalist, but that's my take. Guitar hooks as well as the solo were spot on though, and that's the heart of that kind of blues.

So, don't know who to recommend what to. Nick could use some Bebop schooling. I could throw Kertins a track from one of my favorite ska bands from my high school days. It's hard to know what Ray Ray has and hasn't heard. Hmmm....I'm going with throwing the ball back at Eamonn for now. I did a search of Hondo's and found no indication that Eamonn is a Jethro Tull fan, so I'm posting their song My God. I think Ian Anderson's combination of sheer talent and madness while playing the flute may appeal to his musical sensibilities.

Yeah Rory wouldn't have the best siging voice, but that wasn't his best singing performance, he usually is better, but that video was obviously picked for the guitar . Also I probably shouldn't have picked a video where the sound quality wasn't the best. Well I'm gonna have to revive his thread and direct you over there to show you how good and diverse he is.

+5, I enjoyed the song and for quite a bit the flute solo, but I think it reached the point of overkill where I wanted the band to come back in. Otherwise though a great song.

My pick is for Benny, I've no idea what kind of music he's into, but this is one the best and most Irish songs of all time.

I think he'll like it for that alone.

....so, ASC dropped the ball here; i'm gonna score another easy 5-10 points take a turn & toss a song his way, give him a chance to challenge someone who'll follow up.

for ASC: Bill Withers - Grandma's Hands (for the impatient: skip to 1:20)

+10 I know you posted a video of his songs here before but with that thread and this video combined I really have to look this guy up. Any suggestions of where to start off?

Okay so I remember Jumbie saying he was a fan of the Blues but in naming his favourite artists in my old Blues thread he never mentioned Lightnin' Hopkins.

I'm rectifying this now. For Jumbie

Lightnin' Hopkins - Mr Charlie (Racists can skip to 2:40 (start of song))

+10 Good stuff and it's Irish!

Here's a pick for you, ASC (Not 100% sure what you're into also), Alot of people know Pink Floyd... Not many people know this song though:

*sigh*

ok, so ASC has one more day to get a reaction from Jumbie, after that, Benny's pick back to ASC is the current round. i dont mind people wanting to share in the action, im just concerned if we dont take turns, people aren't gonna be encouraged to listen to their recommendations.

I pm'd Jumbie if he doesn't come back in then I'll go again.

And though I love getting suggestions, can whoever is picked please pick someone who hasn't had a go yet, just for the sake of the game.

if the person you posted it for doesn't respond in 3 full days (or the next person just doesn't have anything to post), we move onto whoever posts next.

OK, so it's up for grabs. I talked to Nick about this song a few weeks ago. He said he never heard the song 'April 29, 1992 (Miami)' by Sublime, and I suspect he'd probably dig it. It was a single off their hugely popular self-titled album, but wasn't as big a hit on the radio as What I Got, Santeria or Wrong Way. There was never an official music video produced for it, this is one someone made on youtube. And as far as I know, the guy at the 0:30 mark is not Will Smith.

yeah, if i heard that one before, i don't recall. it wasn't bad - wanna give +5 to Jax for it, but it's kinda close to a -5 per the rule on cheating by recommending stuff you know the person likes...i guess we should specify if that's per band or track. i mean, ive liked Sublime at least

.

Dr Hypnotizin' GF: your turn to recommend something, dear!

okay so (omg you can just go to fast reply and insert media!!! FTW!) I'm not in the mood to do any serious searching, but i have a feeling Ray Ray (aka Metalheart) might dig this lil' number. I listened to it earlier (as it is on my shuffle on ipod) and thought she might dig it (if she hasn't already heard it!).
