Reverend Jax
So the 3rd episode was pretty fucking great. Best of the three that have been released so far, in my opinion. Opens up a big can of worms, in a metaphor where worms are fan speculation. I'm upset that there has not been a single piece of Korra merch released or even announced. The NZA
good to hear - and don't sweat it, it's early. merch is coming no doubt. another forum says there's too much shipping for their liking - thoughts?
Reverend Jax
I always thought the original show struck a good balance between all the different tones, between silly humor and action and somberness and light, teenager relationship stuff, but the fandom but far more emphasis on their perceived importance of the shipping (Kataang Vs Zutara), even to the point where you'd think it was the central theme of the show. I think the amount of shipping so far has been spot on. Korra has been raised by the Order of the White Lotus in a fortress to protect her, and she's a self-confident 17 year-old young woman who's eager to develop her first relationships (be they friendly or romantic) with peers, not instructors. To have any less shipping would come off to be as unrealistic.

Reverend Jax
Chief Bei Fong channeling Spider-Man was a highlight, but the entire third act was just pure awesomeness. We got a second round of quick sepia flashbacks and I'm thinking we are going to get getting an episode eventually with a fair amount of flashback with the old show's characters that shows some dialogue and exposition and story. Unfortunately, I think they are doing a mid-season break now and we wont get the second half of the season for who knows how long.
Reverend Jax
Unfortunately, I think they are doing a mid-season break now and we wont get the second half of the season for who knows how long. So, I had thought this because we had not gotten a preview of next week's episode, all the promos had only should footage from episodes up to this last one, and some TV listings showed it as a repeat. But on the Tumblr of someone who works on the show, we have gotten confirmation that there will be another new episode this week, and that there will be a rerun for Memorial Day weekend. After that, nothing is confirmed.
Lycaon
I somehow missed this episode. :(
Reverend Jax
Watch it here, or torrent an HD copy. The action in the final act makes the HD worth it.

Lycaon
No dice. Nick just doesn't like my computer (despite me being sure that I've watched episodes there previously). I'll just catch the rerun. Thanks, though. Edited May 15, 2012 by Lycaon

Reverend Jax
Cliqueclack.com: The Politics of Bending I'm really interested in the way they connected X-Men to Korra. In a way, Korra almost represents a world where a more limited mutant gene (one that only allows for one of four mutant powers and is geographically determined) arose much earlier in human history, and became celebrated by those without powers (who knows if that was the case early on in history in the Avatar universe, or if they were initially feared and it took time to get to the point where they were celebrated). So instead of having mutants as a persecuted minority, they are a powerful and celebrated group that appear to be a demographic minority (though it appears not as much of a minority as mutants in the Marvel universe). So Amon is something of a Magneto figure for a persecuted minority, except that minority is the group without special powers.
