Panch Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 That first one was fucking awful... The second one was good though... They're off the same Man on the Moon album and most of the songs sound like the first one. I like the song and some others, but not the greatest. Not a perfect album, but serviceable. Quote
the division of joy Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 If most of it sounds like the first one I think I'll give it a wide berth... Quote
The NZA Posted September 4, 2010 Author Posted September 4, 2010 Devil in a new dress - Kanye's new single...he's taking it easy, but this is more classic ye than 808. Quote

The NZA Posted September 6, 2010 Author Posted September 6, 2010 haku's gonna have to post some Black Keys up in here, really great mixup album last year that i didn't get around to posting on. meantime, here's an old one from (i believe) the recording set there with Mos Def going on about the greatness that is MF DOOM. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTBIvIDnnv8?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTBIvIDnnv8?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTBIvIDnnv8?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> Madvillainy 2 might be my big album next year, unless Liquid Swords 2 gets pushed back again. Mr. Hakujin Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 (edited) where to start... * that roots jam w/ cody chestnut tight're a nun's cunt and should be subtitled "chuck berry's theme." saw them perform it live back 5 or six years ago. * kanye used the now defunct red sonja promo art for his single or is that a fan cover? either way--is nice. * panch is on point w/ kid kudi. man on the moon was probably my number one new hip-hop album of the past year. * i had no idea the black keys did a hip-hop/mash-up album! then again i just discovered these guys like a few weeks ago. i coudln't find a torrent for an album, but i did find this jay-z mash-up http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HSqSZcIlDs and a matisyahu acoustic cover of kings of leon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gl1qWoAOzLw Edited September 6, 2010 by Mr. Hakujin 1 Quote
The NZA Posted September 6, 2010 Author Posted September 6, 2010 nah, i meant mix-up as in hip-hop stars who aren't the roots sometimes using instruments, a la RZA on the strings - Black Keys have been around (i think they do blues stuff normally), but the album you're putting ASC onto was the one im talking about: that's one indie-ass cover pretty fun too, some lazy stuff by the end (just remixing an old ODB/Luda track) but overall a really cool effort. PS i approve of DoJ's last few tracks posted up. Quote
Mr. Hakujin Posted September 6, 2010 Posted September 6, 2010 yeah, that's the one i'm talking about. but why would you write i needed to post some of their stuff in this thread? that's about as un-hip-hop as it gets. Quote
The NZA Posted September 6, 2010 Author Posted September 6, 2010 it's got RZA, Q-Tip, Mos Def, Raekwon, and... ah, i get it now. i got it a bit mixed up with: its the Black Keys + Damon Dash effort, here's the track listing: 1. On the Vista (feat. Mos Def) 2. Hard Times (feat. NOE) 3. Dollaz & Sense (feat. RZA, Pharoah Monch) 4. Why Can't I Forget Him (feat. Nicole Wray) 5. Stay Off the F#$%in' Flowers (Raekwon) 6. Ain't Nothing Like You (Hoochie Coo) (feat. Mos Def, Jim Jones) 7. Hope You're Happy (feat. Q-Tip, Billy Danze, Nicole Wray) 8. Tellin' Me Things (feat. RZA) 9. What You Do To Me (feat. Jim Jones, Billy Danze, Nicole Wray) 10. Done Did It (feat. NOE) also quality worth checking out. my bad though. Quote
Mr. Hakujin Posted September 8, 2010 Posted September 8, 2010 Heh. I knew you were off your rocker, Custer. I just posted this on your fb wall. I also DL'd the album and will give it a listen... ...you should definitely listen to BROTHERS though as it's a great blues rock album and DangerMouse in fact does produce on one track. Quote
The NZA Posted September 11, 2010 Author Posted September 11, 2010 2010-2011: return of hip-hop. as if what's dropped this year hasn't been enough: Recently, RZA confirmed that he will be producing Liquid Swords II: The Return Of The Shadowboxer, which is tentatively due out in Fall of 2010.[8]. 2010-present: Tenth studio album Speaking about his upcoming tenth studio album, Nas called the album a "magic moment" in his rap career while mentioning that Swizz Beatz, DJ Premier, The Alchemist, Dr. Dre, Kanye West and RZA are possible producers on the LP.[71] "A Milli" producer Bangladesh revealed that he produced some tracks for the album.[72] [/url] On May 26, 2010, the first single for the next Madvillain album "Paper Mill" was dropped through Adult Swim.[16] "Expektoration," a live DOOM album, will be released Sept. 14, 2010 through Gold Dust Media. In mid 2010, DOOM released the mix-tape "DOOM!", a collection of greatest hits, B-Sides and rareties, including the theme for GTA: Chinatown Wars featuring Ghostface Killah and Biochemical Equation, featuring the RZA. http://www.kanyewest.com/GOODFridays GOOD Friday track is out, dope shit. Mr. Hakujin Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 kanye & madvillain joints have me the most excited. never was a big nas fan... :/ Quote
The NZA Posted September 12, 2010 Author Posted September 12, 2010 you can listen to Good Friday here - i'm liking what i'm hearing. Com, Clipse (Pusha T's good, though i prefer Malice), Charlie Wilson...great beat too. yeah, i keep saying it, but Kanye's album's lineup is ridiculous, i've got big hopes for this one in particular. as for Nasty Nas...we've got to correct that, sir. what have you heard of his? let's start with his debut album Illmatic, still one of hip-hop's finest. if this does nothing for you somehow, yeah, it's safe to pass on him entirely. <object height="385" width="480"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-_IFAt8ka0?fs=1&hl=en_US"><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-_IFAt8ka0?fs=1&hl=en_US"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-_IFAt8ka0?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" height="385" width="480"></object> <object height="385" width="480"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKjj4hk0pV4?fs=1&hl=en_US"><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKjj4hk0pV4?fs=1&hl=en_US"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKjj4hk0pV4?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" height="385" width="480"></object> <object height="385" width="480"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTyQfABqwdo?fs=1&hl=en_US"><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTyQfABqwdo?fs=1&hl=en_US"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTyQfABqwdo?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" height="385" width="480"></object> Quote

Panch Posted September 12, 2010 Posted September 12, 2010 Dude, download or buy or just borrow from me Nas' album The Lost Tapes. If this doesn't get ya then forget we ever mentioned Nas. Quote
The NZA Posted September 13, 2010 Author Posted September 13, 2010 that's a pretty good pick...i was thinking stillmatic (such a good union of nas' lyrics + production) but lost tapes is hot fire like dylan. still, i'm willing to throw in the towel if illmatic didn't work for you, at least you tried. At least you know to expect good things from Madvillainy 2/Paper Mill, can't wait on that one either. if Kid Cudi's album has more than just 1 song going for it, ill check that one out too...i haven't really given him a chance. I finally got around to checking out Lupe a while back, and he's got some great tracks in there occassionally but i can't get into him like many other backpackers can, kinda inconsistent for me. plus, he's kinda fucking around with Lasers (i thought it was his label's fault, but his fans are starting to blame him too like he's the next Detox or something), so there's that. also, i got really sad when asking why i wasnt hearing anything new from Cannibal Ox (much love to Loreli for putting me onto "the cold vein", no idea how i missed that one, it's a classic), came to find out from dudes in NY that the lead MC is a crackhead wandering the streets these days, fuckin' tragic. "it aint hard to tell" samples MJ's classic "human nature", how can you not love that?! i knew i shouldve picked the ones with 80's beats you'd dig like "rule" 60% beats? pac cries thug tears for hip-hop.
