Huh. I think "King" Hammer sounds like a very confused man.

But what I am feeling is the new Lil' Wayne album. Not the greatest hip-hop album ever, or even from the past year (that goes to Em for Recovery in my book), but it's still pretty fuckin' awesome. NZA should like this one especially since Weezy is tight on the rhymes.

the danny brown one...i just love J Dilla, and production that sounds like him works for me cause i miss the dude. he was amazing, so sad he's gone.

 

Lil Wayne...i clown the dude (his style works for me sometimes, sometimes it don't - he can rhyme but i think he gets lazy on the lyrics sometimes), but he at least sounds different from a lotta garbage out right now. he's prolly my next 50 Cent: a few years from now, he won't be all over the radio, he'll have a video game and ill end up digging him more.

based on the singles like this we've heard/leaked, i gotta say: if he can get it together for ROC and put something out there, i think he could be huge; dude's style is good and he flows some heavy content a bit like Rakim did. J Cole's getting more notice in hip-hop (prolly for putting in more work?) but this is the artist to watch, for me.

Good shit. Dre is back. As far as the supporters, I agree with Nick. Still its a promising first release for an album that's sure to be great. Surprised Nate Dogg didn't get mentioned. He's clearly doing back-up vocals.

Elsewhere: effective-to-inspired soul-sampling beats; ad-libs in which Ghostface makes fun of people's clothing; a snippet or two of Tears for Fears' "Shout"; and the Game using the phrase "I get my Rachael Ray on." finally went back to given this a proper listen the whole way through...damn, very few misses here. this is my favorite Roots album since at least Tipping Point, if not Phrenology. do not miss, if you're a fan.

 

 

this shit goes hard, like Supreme Clientele in the day. i totally forgive starks for Ghostdini last year, and if you're looking for the next strong Wu effort after Rae's Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II, this is it. do not sleep. i haven't even finished it yet cause i keep looping a few tracks.

 

 

Liquid Swords 2 is like my own Chinese Democracy, i really hope it drops & delivers next year...but in the meantime, this collection of b-sides & such is a really great holdover. I personally can't get enough GZA, and Muggs did it justice, some DJ Premier sounding tracks here off & on.

anyway, was reading that Ghosface was finally done with Def Jam (been waiting on this, like every producer wants to get with him and its obvious he had some better help on Apollo Kids but it's still not consistent), but apparently he signed back on for a few more efforts, which are rumored to be named "Supreme Clientele 2" and "Blue & Cream".
