Thrizzle Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 I love the Rapture parallels here, especially in the context of the alternate dimension breaching within the plot. Quote
Iambaytor Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 Come on, why would you put your arms on the arm-rests? The irons are clearly visible. Quote
IceManML Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 No matter how I look at it, the colors alone captivate my attn in every video. I've never played a bios hock game but I preordered the songbird thing on bestbuy. I'm gonna start playing bioshock2 since its free on PSN. Should I make an effort to play the original before this? IceManML Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Looks like I'm waiting til infinite to be released to play p1... It comes free w it. Otherwise it's a waste of $... Sigh... Quote
IceManML Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 This game is fuking amazing. Even the credits. except the ending is so cop out its confusing and yet not at all. But I found it incredibly disappointing, especially if you have a shit about the story to p1 n 2. Guess just gotta see if the dlc can remedy.. Despite any short comings the joint is so well put together its worth every penny. And the music to say the least is well worth it. Quote
JunkerSeed Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 (edited) First impressions: first no spoilers, then tagged spoilers Whoa, this thing looks great! It's refreshing to play something bright and colorful, and the design is just nuts. Columbia is gorgeous and these guys have actually lived up to creating a place that outdoes rapture. I am just taking forever walking near every group of people to hear what they're saying, reading every bit of text, etc. The sort of "big idea" is very off putting and interesting and I'm excited to see where they take it. I cannot understate how much fun it is just to walk around and check out what they made. Every room tells a story, every object is relevant and every peek around every corner is rewarding. I find myself just running in the opposite direction of my objective arrow to make sure I've seen every little thing before I move on. Then I remember it's a shooter. When I replayed some of bioshock 1 recently I remembered that what I love about the game (its setting, most of its plot, the bigger ideas it tackles ) is secondary to what you actually do in the game, which is shooting the fuck out of everything that moves. If you asked me what Bioshock 1 was "about" I would want to say "oh, it's about the flaws of objectivism and the impossibility of a utopia" but really it's about circle strafing giant monsters while shooting them in the face. So too with infinite, I was initially excited to see some nonviolent NPC interaction and longer stretches where I talk to folks or find stuff, but I also remember that this is a shooter, and about half an hour in, I found myself circlestrafing a big monster man and shooting him repeatedly in the face. The combat is fine, it's getting more fun as I get more weapons/abilities but it actually seems to be a little bit at odds with what the game is really trying to do. I feel like when I tell someone "Wait, videogames have some really interesting things to say!" I will have to be like "Wait, well, first gouge this guys eyes out with your hook, then headshot those guys with your machinegun... eh forget it." That being said (very early spoiler, 1st hour) The raffle scene was so fucking effective. I knew we were in some kind of xenophobic/racist utopia gone wrong, but I was legitimately shocked by how they played it. and (eh like 4 hours inish) My wish for all games not to be shooters aside, I just had my first legit crazy skyfight and I'm like WHOOOAA. If there are enough fights like this I don't give a fuck about racism or whatever, I just want to zip around on that shit dodging rockets and shotgunning fuckers into the wild blue yonder. PS I am really glad this game came out during my spring break. Edited March 30, 2013 by JunkerSeed 1 Quote
The NZA Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 ^i agree with all that stuff running through this right now, game just got really interesting around where you fail to save the chinese weapons guy, and elizabeth's clearly quantum-ish powers start to show Quote
Mortiis558 Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 I know...Dewiit is Comstocks Father and Elizabeth is his Mother....holy shit.... April Fool's!! Quote
Keth Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Here's a little something that makes it even more mindfuckable Insane amount of spoiler there, so i wouldn't click til you've beaten the game. Quote
The NZA Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Well I didn't see that coming.... That ending is such a mindfuck. yeah...yeah this helps though Quote

Jables Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 (edited) Bioshock Infinite: Fringe did it better. Yeah so just wrapped this up, and would be more confused if Adam hadn't already finished it and has been waiting impatiently for me to purchase & complete it, and was therefore at the ready to answer my confused sounds. I don't know how this game isn't copping a lot more heat. Gratuity aside, I dug it. Edited April 7, 2013 by The JZA Quote
JunkerSeed Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 (edited) Fantastic game. The combat really does get more fun as it goes along. Vigors are a lot more fun to use that Plasmids were in Bioshock. A lot of it is the level design. There's a good mix of wide open and enclosed spaces so I'm often switching my weapons, vigors and tactics. There are tons of opportunities for cover, skylines, multiple elevations, and lots of interactive stuff lying around giving you options for how you want to wreak havok. I felt like I was choosing how I wanted to play, and that there were certainly a dozen other ways I could have approached combat successfully with different weapons and vigors. Skylines are awesome, but I I think they were underused. There were a bunch of times I had the option of a skyline in a smaller area, but not many times where I had to use the skylines. Not enough crazy roller coaster fights for my taste. The story was a blast until the end and as folks have been saying, the ending is certainly intriguing and exciting. 1000 times better than the lame Bioshock 1 ending. I did find it a bit easy though, I played on normal, and while it was nice to choose weapons based on what I thought looked cool (handcannon and shotty for me) as opposed to what worked best, I found that I could kind of annihilate anyone without much trouble, and without much incentive to change up what I was doing. Eventually there are a couple of enemies that were tough, but I rarely ran into much trouble. I'm playing through on 1999 mode now, and while it's fun and definitely hard enough, I think some of Infinite's flaws as a shooter show a bit more. My main complaint is the AI. They don't do anything. I could stay behind a piece of cover for an eternity and these guys would just hold back for ages, until they eventually run directly into my sights. They don't do very much to flank you or have any interesting abilities of their own. The vast majority of enemies just shoot straight at you from various distances and with various amounts of armor. Instead of the harder difficulty forcing me to be more creative, find new ways to use vigors and weapons, etc, I'm actually just sniping everyone from super far away and spamming the same two vigors when anyone gets close to me, where in normal mode I was doing crazy vigor combos to knock people off columbia, gathering enemies into crazy big clusters to blow em all up/ have their eyes pecked out, etc. Not that it's meant to be played on the harder difficulty setting, but sometimes on normal mode I felt myself thinking "maybe if I didn't set them on fire and blow their brains out the minute I saw them, these enemies would do something more interesting!" but that's not really the case. This games basically has the AI from DOOM. Anyway, good shit, lived up to the hype, though I think it's better to think of the Bioshock franchise as games that's really smart for a shooters rather than really smart games with some shooting in them. Maybe more plot specific comments later after I kill it on 1999. A lot fo the plot is even better the 2nd time through. Edited April 7, 2013 by JunkerSeed Quote
Keth Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Jza: How many of the voxaphones did you pick up? The more I found, the better the story was for me. I agree with Junker that it was pretty easy. Especially once you learn the kill crazy vigor combos (Murder of Crows + Devil's Kiss = instant room sweep) I do regret spending the full 60 dollars on it, but I'm sure I'll go back to it at some point to explore every nook and cranny. C_U_SPACECOWBOY Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Especially once you learn the kill crazy vigor combos (Murder of Crows + Devil's Kiss = instant room sweep) I realized late in the game that an RPG shot into a swarm of crows will actually cause the same effect. Made the encounters in Comstock house versus the weird tuba headed guy a breeze. Quote

I went through that entire game without it occuring to me to combo the fucking vigours. More for the 1999 playthrough I guess. I ended up collecting 73 of the voxaphones i think. And I agree that that they really lend further depth to the story and voice to characters who didn't warrant inclusion in the game proper. Quote
