Thelogan
i too had this stance once, but notch flew out to meet valve and nothing really came from it, Well, the thing about that is unless your name is Dejobaan Games, Steam is not in the business of releasing games still in development. If they worked out a deal, Notch isn't going to be allowed to talk about it. Valve is going to be reserve the right to make that announcement. And if they didn't work something out, there's no rule against telling people who you won't be working with, so unless he said "Minecraft won't be on Steam", I'm assuming it prob'ly will be. If, as you say, they've pretty much done all they can with it, then it seems to me that it could be done aroouuuuuuund...E3 maybe? Could be they're just killing time at this point. Crossing my fingers.
Mr. Sexy Hat
Dejobaan Games has said until people stop paying/donating to them for Minecraft they will continue to update it. As for an official release it's not a matter of if but when. But they do want to start implementing multiplayer modes into minecraft like CTF and a Zombie survival mode like L4D. I got my copy when it was in Alpha I think it was only 10 euros then.
The NZA
that's the thing, Logans - there's already a great community for it, and in-game achievements as well. i honestly wouldn't get anything from buying it later through steam more than now, only that i'd be paying more for it, and might have less buzz going by then seeing as how Notch is supposed to be working on his next game anyway. you're free to wait, i'm just glad i didn't, cause i'd hate to've jumped in later when most of the community is onto his next project or something. Thelogan
only that i'd be paying more for it I'm talking about Steam here. It will inevitably be 30 cents for a weekend. I see what you're saying. This board tends to feel the opposite, but a lot of other boards describe it's current state as the fundamentals. I'm sure I would enjoy it, I like sandboxy stuff with vague goals that promote creativity. Here's some stuff I copy pasted from other places that could be added to make it a full game. Feel free to confirm/deny. -NPCs + Villages + some sort of in-game economy (I think I disagree with this one) -Expanded farming -Fully integrated SSP and SMP, let me invite friends into my SSP world, without the hassle of transferring the map. -More Nether content -More mobs -Smarter mobs (make me actually have to design real defenses for my base.) -Paint for non-wool blocks -Mounts -Rare/unique items (magic weapons/tools?) (WAT?) - scuba tank or equivalent for underwater exploring - some sort of air content, maybe floating islands -it could be released right now if they fixed all the glitches and included 3rd party mod support thats free -multiple game modes, such as adventure and zombie survival -a mode with a goal. (Kinda like the first Sims for consoles? Twas shit.) -Server browser. Also
The NZA
hmm. -NPCs + Villages + some sort of in-game economy (I think I disagree with this one) yeah, kind've against. definitely dont want in-game economy (socialist system is working here) but NPCs could be alright, we kinda get around that for now with signs. -Expanded farming oh, absolutely. could use more stuff to grow in my greenhouse. -Fully integrated SSP and SMP, let me invite friends into my SSP world, without the hassle of transferring the map. i can see that. its why i dropped SP very quick and joined a server, so my stuff isnt just somewhere alone, forcing me to drag folks onto the server just to see it/share. -More Nether content fuck, i didn't spend enough time down there at all, i kept wandering through the portal with low-ass health. i'm so cheap. -More mobs-Smarter mobs (make me actually have to design real defenses for my base.) i can totally see this; on my server, they're a hindrance at worst. the creepers dont seem to kamikaze my house, thankfully...but our admin did turn out waves/bmobs at certain intervals, making exploring at night trickier. -Paint for non-wool blocks id be down for this, but i learned that if you dont try any of the free, awesome texture mods, you're doing it wrong anyway. -Mounts i so wanted this, now my server allows for the warp command to go to friends' houses so im cool. id be nice to explore the world itself faster, but that'd be one fuckny horse that could climb mountains. -Rare/unique items (magic weapons/tools?) (WAT?) i finally got some tools that dont break so easy, but im always down for new shit. that's the biggest thing the game needs is just more stuff. - scuba tank or equivalent for underwater exploring FUCK YES best idea yet. with sea monsters added too! - some sort of air content, maybe floating islands we've made a few of these (you can pretty much only warp to them now, heh) but it couldve been a lot easier. -it could be released right now if they fixed all the glitches and included 3rd party mod support thats free my glitches havent been bad so far, few items i dropped got lost, mostly animals getting stuck in certain corners of the world. oh, and the paintings in my museum unfortunately go invisible sometimes....nothing game-breaking thankfully. and yeah, this game was made to allow admins access to custom mods. -multiple game modes, such as adventure and zombie survival yeah, a night of the living dead thing would be cool. again, custom mods would prolly have this done day 1. -a mode with a goal. (Kinda like the first Sims for consoles? Twas shit.) eh, nah. the goal is to BUILD. -Server browser. definitely...but again, someone on our server got it linked up so you can see our whole town in google maps, which is awesome. something like that'd be great. unless they mean a web browser? cause i just used steam's. once i tie up KOTOR 2, ima log back in and see how my shit's holding up. i dipped right before they added wolves. BUT, something that IS officially official: Minecraft Comes Exclusively to Xbox LIVE Spring 2012 Mojang has now revealed that the game is headed to Xbox LIVE Arcade in Spring of 2012. The Xbox 360 version will first be playable at MineCon, the Minecraft fan event taking place in Vegas on November 18th and 19th.
The NZA
not even sure how it's gonna work, but...good? i mean that it's finally coming to consoles, not the exclusive part. my concern here is: notch frequently updates the PC version. i need details on how this works on XBL, since MS doesn't like letting things for free anymore.
Thelogan
Well, there's a perfectly functional patching infrastructure built in to XBL, if that's the question. I kinda get the impression that it updates frequently because it's been a work in progress, not a finished game. That work is nearing completion. At least enough for Notch to go ahead and release official NON alpha/beta PC and 360 versions. Or are you asking if they're gonna call "updates" "dlc" and charge for 'em? That's...actually a pretty good question, never occurred to me.
The NZA
yeah, specifically that - i remember Mark Rein talking about what a mission it was getting Gears free DLC up at first (even after all the input they had on the 360's architecture), and Gabe on about how said system was what stopped him from bringing steamworks to XBL - though a recent article says they've ironed out the details somehow. honestly, both systems need to be more open, but yeah, for instance: if it was on XBL now, would the new patch with dragons cost a few bucks? i haven't logged in in forever now, since my old stuff was lost and i never heard back from stilly/others on a hondo's server. if notch thinks its finally in beta or almost out, that's cool too. i never knew where that line in the sand was exactly, cause i had a blast in alpha. The NZA
god, i never even made it into the nether before, kept trying but dying nearby. still haven't heard back from stillB, sadly. shame we can't all get a game going.
crimsonfire
It'll happen. What I'd love to see would be a local co-op mode where you don't need a server. You just invite other people into your game like any number of games these days. I might be misunderstanding the logistics of that but it's something I think could work. Mortiis558
Got my copy of PC Gamer today, which had a reveiw of the offical Minecraft release...after much hoop-la and everything they ended up giving Minecraft a 96 which puts it up there with the best games OF ALL TIME. I can honestly understand why, even thought it is a glorified Lego's Simulator, the way that is has all been put together makes it one of the simplest, yet most imaginative and spectacular games out there. Plus for it being an indie game pretty much made by one person, this is a great achievement for indie games in general. Now look forward to the new genre of shitty copies being made to cash in on it's success. So who still hasn't played it?

The NZA
...oh, wow. the attention to detail is fucking fantastic, too. i know that map like the back of my hand, so i kept looking for mistakes and didn't really find any...dude took it all the way up to the mid-boss, but included pretty much all the secret areas too. fuckin' props.
