Thelogan
The dude at CBR said I like the one that focuses on Havok the most because it shows something I don't think I've ever seen in an "X-Men" film: people excited about mutant powers.
Mr. Hakujin
Nice find, Logan! Those trailers were all spectacular! Not quite sure why they couldn't make Banshee Irish though. The only real concern I have now is this cat playing Charles. He's a wee fella and seeing him walk next to Havoc, well, he didn't quite come off like a leader or mentor. Anyway, minor concern. I'm still going into this one w/ high hopes. And the more I see of this film the more I really hope this isn't only a prequel, but a re-boot as well. I'd love to see a sequel w/ some Cain/Charles interaction.
Reverend Jax
And the more I see of this film the more I really hope this isn't only a prequel, but a re-boot as well. I'd love to see a sequel w/ some Cain/Charles interaction. It seems they've really made an effort to communicate this is not a reboot...they've included footage from the first X-Men movie in the trailers, how much clearer can the message be: 'This is not a reboot, it is in continuity with the previous X-films!' C_U_SPACECOWBOY
What the hell is up with the Hula-Hoop Havok?! Seriously, a friend of mine mentioned the character vignettes and said they made Havok's rings like hula-hoops, to which I laughed and pantomimed a hula-hoop motion complete with hip flourishes to fire the rings. "You mean like this!!" I said. "Surely you jest, as this motion I am making now is completely ridiculous!!" Imagine my horror upon finding out that that is EXACTLY HOW IT FUCKING LOOKS ON SCREEN!! ARGH!! This movie just needs to come out so I can finally get off this roller coaster of reserved excitement and absolute dread.
Mr. Hakujin
What the hell is up with the Hula-Hoop Havok?! I thought they actually looked kinda cool. Besides, Banshee's powers are already visualized as rings, so I'm guessing that's why the filmmakers chose to spice up Havoc's chest blast. Also, they kind of mimic that silly-ass silver shit he used to wear on his head in the comics. So call it an homage. It seems they've really made an effort to communicate this is not a reboot...they've included footage from the first X-Men movie in the trailers, how much clearer can the message be: 'This is not a reboot, it is in continuity with the previous X-films!' Don't cyber-scold me, yo! There is ALWAYS hope, Jax. I mean, you finally got a gf, so you know that as well as anyone.

Reverend Jax
So, about 6 days before Thor came out, I said this on the Thor thread Well, Rotten Tomatoes has 49 reviews in and Thor is at a highly respectable 94%, so that number is not likely to fluctuate more than two in either direction. That's better than Spider-Man 2 (93%), X-Men 2 (88%), and tied with Iron Man and The Dark Knight. Believe the hype, people. Thor's going to rock! Well, Thor ended up fluctuating more than two percent, it ended up at 78%. Still very respectable, but it's not fucking 94%. Well, know, two days before X-Men: First Class comes out, Rotten Tomatoes has 50 positive reviews out of 51 for a score of 98%. At this point, my reservations are pretty much gone. I am wholeheartedly stoked to see this flick. This flick is looking to be to this summer what Star Trek was to 2009: A film from a beloved franchisee that has not delivered for some time that catches people off guard. This could be the X-Men film to top X2.
Thelogan
Yeah, looks good man. I had to stop watching clips, because it seems the whole fucking movie is pretty much out there in 2 minute bits.
Mr. Hakujin
Agreed w/ Logans. WTF w/ all these clips online? Thpoilerth! Also agreed w/ Jax about this possibly being for X-Men what Star Trek [2009] was tot hat franchise. And yes, I know it's being billed as a prequel and NOT a re-boot like Abrams' Star Trek. However, film franchises can be retconned, too.
crimsonfire
Saw this today and it fucking rocked. Wasn't expecting much from it to begin with though. X3 left a baaad taste in my mouth. Wolvie origins had its flaws too but was generally entertaining. for the eagle eyed viewer (kinda) there's a gaping continuity error between this and wolvie origins. Assuming this ties in with all previous X-flicks that is.
Jables
Unless you're talking about something spoilerspoilery, any point at which First Class sets itself apart from Origins(especially in all matters Emma Frost) is a good thing.
Thelogan
Can't we just forget Wolverine ever happened? I've been trying to, but you people keep dragging it back out. It doesn't fit with the other x-films at all. I read somewhere recently that, if this film is successful Vaughn still wants to do another solo Origins movie though. One with a more sci-fi action. Starring Cable.
Mr. Hakujin
First Thor and now X-Men. WTF?!?! We killed fuckin' Bin Laden and we get Hollywood films after fuckin' Ireland? It's all gone topsy-turvy.

Mr. Hakujin
It opens on Friday here. Thursday, technically, if you count the midnight screenings. Not a big difference, but still--there's principality involved here, Smokey.

Through the magic of alternate timelines, Star Trek (2009) is a prequel, a sequel AND a reboot. Saw this today and it fucking rocked. Wasn't expecting much from it to begin with though. X3 left a baaad taste in my mouth. Wolvie origins had its flaws too but was generally entertaining. I read that Sebastian Shaw was supposed to be an ex-Nazi in this, but I saw a clip and Kevin Bacon didn't have a German accent or anything. Does this make sense in the movie? First Thor and now X-Men. WTF?!?! We killed fuckin' Bin Laden and we get Hollywood films after fuckin' Ireland? It's all gone topsy-turvy. Agreed. People used to scoff when some said America was in decline. A waning empire with its greatest days behind it. Well, Thor came out in Australia before here and X-Men came out in Ireland before here. Ireland! I wonder how many potatoes it'll gross in its opening weekend. The joke was that the Irish use potatoes as currency. Zing!
