just got caught up on this, and X-Factor aside (kind've in its own continuity, but still solid after all this time - props again to 2T for that one) this is the best X-book out there. it's :wolvy: , Psylocke, Angel, Deadpool, and Fantomex (from Grant's legendary New X-Men run), and more or less breaks from the last series because it's them trying to stop Apocalypse from returning, by stabbing things.

Naturally, this brought them to the most current arc, where they had to revisit the Age of Apocalypse - something that's been done in other x-books (most notably X-Man) but usually it's kind've been wasted. this time, it was not...if you're not an AOA fan or still not sold, feel free to spoiler yourself with this catchup to the last issue (repost from Schism thread):

# 13 just dropped, tying up one arc (kind've) and leading into the next but i like the creative team, and that the entire book seems to follow this focus. Lotta fun for 90's x-men fans, and borrows from all the right places so far.

Just caught up on all this and good god. Dark Angel Saga was amazing. I thought

resurrecting Angel was something of a needless cop-out, especially now that he's an amnesiac anyway. Also, Genesis. Thumbs up

Next arc looks to involve Captain Britains, this might test my attention span.

Genesis and Angel are over in Wolverine & The X-Men now if you wanna continue that part of the story, just sayin'.

I need to give that book a thread, because it's actually doing some new shit, and I like it. If these are the current New Mutants then we could have a cool goddamn X-Men team someday, even if they do seem a little custom fitted to the archetypes.

How I see it:

Broo is the new Beast (and possibly my favorite of the new cast)

Idie is the new Cyclops/elemental

Quire is the new Phoenix/ token telepath

Krakoa os the new...uh...base of operations

Guardian is the muscle

And I'm really hoping Bizarro Apocalypse ends up fitting in there somewhere as well.

Is That X-FORCE? Marvel Announces RESURRXION Mystery Series

June2016ResurrXion.jpg

Marvel has teased another X-Men title launching this summer as part of its "ResurrXion" relaunch. Announced on Twitter, the promo art by Jim Cheung features Old Man Logan, Archangel, and an unknown number of silhouetted characters. It was tweeted with the caption "The comic series fans have been demanding! Coming June 2017."

Though no title or creative team was revealed, the line-up seems to strongly imply that the new series will be a variation on the more recent iterations of X-Force. Both Logan (albeit a different version) and Archangel were key characters in Rick Remender and Jerome Opena's popular volume of Uncanny X-Force from a few years ago.

...

Expect more teasers that will reveal this apparent team's roster in the coming days before the inevitable full details of the mystery title are finally announced.

I am actively bored by Magneto's Team, I find Storm's team to be a bunch of self-important fuckheads sans Jean and Logan and I'll even throw in Forge because I like him, and I'll admit Young Iceman and Angel are meh and I've got no love for Idie and Young Apocalypse but this is the only version of Cyclops I've ever actually liked (Seriously, read the solo series from a couple years ago, it's great) and self-aware Beast is also a joy. I'm even liking X-23's version of Wolverine, the last book featuring the older X-men in a major role I enjoyed was that Gambit solo series.

your co-sign on a couple of those things piques my interest, but mostly im kinda bored of the x-universe, have been for a while now.

even if an interesting team/direction comes up, the constant stream of forgettable events since forever ago when messiah war tied up makes it feel a bit more like the bad end of the 90s to me: editorial is gonna change directions & break up any creative teams i really get into, unless it's a small, stand-alone corner of said x-universe...and even then, the 2nd volume of peter david's x-factor fell right off for me.

it's more of the same with most team books now that i think about it - i love mark waid, but i'm not reading avengers books either. it's hard for me to stay interested if it's not a solo character book these days.

I can see that, they've been pretty dull for as long as I've been reading them and I find them off-putting. The racism angle was a good one in the 60s but in the modern Marvel universe every other jagoff on the street has superpowers so the "no more muties" thing has just become a crutch, the books are almost perscution porn at this point and I don't think they've said anything poignant or interesting about racism or bigotry in quite a while. I think the reason I like All-New Wolverine and All-New X-Men is because they remember to have a sense of humor and be fun, same with those Gambit and Cyclops books. Take solace in knowning that Inhumans vs. X-Men is actually surprisingly decent, I mean it's going to be forgettable as all the event books ultimately are (except maybe Secret Wars, that was a surprisingly solid stand-alone story) but it's a hell of a lot better than Uncanny and Extreme X-Men have been.

Also that's pretty much gotta be Cable and Deadpool on either side of Logan there in that picture. I imagine Psylocke is also a lock, maybe Sabretooth. It'd be cool if they brought back some older characters Bendis-style and rebooted them to be interesting again like Shatterstar or Maverick, but it's not gonna happen.

so inhumans vs x-men's been enjoyable? i bailed on the first issue of that one. agreed that Secret War was one of the best events in a while now.

i think you're right about cable & deadpool but can't rule out bishop & fantomex. shatterstar (post peter david relaunch) could be cool, when's the last time we saw maverick?

I'm pretty sure we haven't seen Maverick since his solo series ended in the late '90s, feels like we're overdue for a check-up now. Marrow could stand a reboot as well. Speaking of relics, whatever happened to Cecilia Reyes? Somebody should do something with her.

That bit from Nova is fantastic! Great post. "I hate everything about that sentence," pretty much sums up my feelings about the big two and why whenever someone tries to explain something about modern superheroes I revert to Carl from Up.

*edit*

Not to step on axels' toes, b/c ms paint is kinda his thing here, but I had to do this...

yeah, ive had the feeling ever since morrison that not many writers have had a good grasp on what to do with him

it's a shame too, sometimes you get stuff like district X that gives leftovers like bishop this whole new take on their character, and then it's forgotten again

If I had the keys to the X-Kingdom I'd go all d-listers we haven't seen regularly in years: Darwin, Maverick, Celica Reyes, Warlock, Wolfsbane, Marrow. Actually I'd probably just write a Mutant X book in retrospect, that's a universe I'd rather revisit than Age of Apocalypse.
