Reverend Jax
Will you be editing your Top 12 Movies of 2012 list to incorporate it, or was it not top 12 material?
Iambaytor
Nah, I suppose it might be somewhat interchangable with The Expendables 2 or The Grey but I see no need to go out of my way to change it. I liked it, it was an enjoyable movie, but it didn't shake my world.
crimsonfire
Got around to watching this. Reminded me of the raid in parts, which is no bad thing. I very much liked it. It copied The Raid pretty much verbatim in parts. I think someone saw this small-fry action flick from some loser country that is known for it's high poverty and corrupt police force moreso than its movies and thought "Ooh what a good idea". Little did they know it would be picked up by a large distributor and gain international acclaim. Dredd was already well underway by that stage so it was too late. That's my theory anyway. You have to admit it, the parallels are too numerous for that not to be the case. That said, both great films in their own right. Edit: Comments about Indonesia are conjectural paraphrasing if that actually means anything. Edited January 15, 2013 by crimsonfire

Iambaytor
Mine was better In all seriousness though, scenery chewing aside (and that's arguably necessary for a faithful screen adaptation of the Judge Dredd comics anyway), Stallone's version isn't terrible. It's not great, but it's an okay movie.
crimsonfire
It's in the same vein as Starship Troopers for me in that it has so much nostalgic significance and quirky terribleness that it makes me love it intensely.
Iambaytor
Starship troopers was actually supposed to be that way though.

The NZA
this was closer to the kind've thing i wanna see from a punisher film, really enjoyable - i wish more of the cult scene got done right like this, there's not enough for me in the blade/crow category

The NZA
i have long since noted my sincere jealousy at your ability to enjoy that film note that i'm saying more the action/pacing than say slo-mo drug effects, war zone got closer to what i was after but oddly chose to insert camp
Iambaytor
And you will never understand the pain it causes me to be the only one that sees such a wonderful movie there. In any case you got the 80s Punisher with Dolph Lundgren which is a perfect Punisher movie in its own right and he doesn't ever do anything other than shoot bad guys and glower, so minus some Ennis wankery and a skull on his shirt it's everything you've ever dreamed of. Keth
Don't worry Baytor, I'm with you on Jane Punisher. It was an awesome start to what could've been a great series of movies.

You're good people, Axels. I don't even think that scene was in the final cut of the movie, I could be wrong though. It's not as terrible as it could be and it's a million times better than War Zone. But yes, I was jabbing.
The NZA
man part of me wants to watch the Dolph one again but im afraid it'll hold up like he-man live action did
Iambaytor
It's got a fair splash of 80s and Frank has a tendency to throw away every gun he has after he uses it once, but it's a good approximation of what the comics were at the time. And once again, it's much better than War Zone.
alive she cried
You keep saying that like it's impressive. Yes it's better, but in about the same way that being punched in the face by Sugar Ray Leonard is better than being punched in the face by Mike Tyson, both are awful and something I'd really like to avoid. Iambaytor
80s punisher isn't a bad movie, I own it with zero irony or misgivings. It's just not deep or intelligent and it's a treasure trove of action tropes. But it takes itself seriously and reads like the old books from the era.
