The NZA Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 Green Lantern Reboot set to feature Hal Jordan and John Stewart Keep in mind that the movie is still in early development and a lot of things can change, but we’re hearing that the new Green Lantern movie will focus on more than one human Green Lantern. Furthermore, the franchise will continue to focus on different Green Lanterns and never on just one, so really the Green Lantern movies look like they’ll be more about the Green Lantern Corps, which is an interesting approach. But before we get there, the plan is just to focus on these two or three human Green Lanterns, and there’s a real possibility that Warner Bros. will introduce the Green Lanterns at Comic-Con this year at their panel in Hall H on Saturday. And if WB does bring on multiple Green Lanterns, then presumably one or more of them will pop up in Justice League. ... The most popular Green Lantern is Hal Jordan, who was the main character in the 2011 movie. However, Guy Gardner and John Stewart later followed Jordan, and they weren’t the last in the comics. But we’re hearing possibly two or all three—Jordan, Stewart, and Gardner—could be the leads of Warner Bros’ Green Lantern reboot. no best lantern (kyle) but off to a good start! Quote
Iambaytor Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 If they have sense then it'll be a buddy cop movie. Quote
Iambaytor Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 Sometimes I wish the rights to Green Lantern and Wonder Woman would go to Marvel, just because I think they'd know what to do with them. Quote
The NZA Posted June 24, 2015 Author Posted June 24, 2015 If they have sense then it'll be a buddy cop movie. that's my hope here, yeah...i could see that being enjoyable first flight felt like GL: Training Day anyway Quote
Mr. Hakujin Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 I so wanted Dennis Leary to play Guy Gardner back in the day. Not sure who would make a good one now. Denzel could still pull off John Stewart though. Maybe the plot could have the GL Corps pull him outta retirement...one last time. Quote
The NZA Posted July 11, 2015 Author Posted July 11, 2015 WB announced Green Lantern Corps movie No longer a solo movie, Warner Bros. flashed a logo for a"Green Lantern Corps" film on the screen in Hall H, with a release date of 2020.Rumors of a multi-Lantern approach to the film began making the rounds last month, with actor Chris Pine's name at the center. Tyrese Gibson added fuel to the rumor later in the month, not only hinting that he had been approached to join the then-secret production, but that a big announcement would be made at Comic-Con. Warner Bros. previously released a "Green Lantern" film starring Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan in 2011, but the new film will not follow that continuity. Instead, it will fit in with the burgeoning cinematic DC Universe established in "Man of Steel" and expanded in the upcoming "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." Quote
The NZA Posted July 27, 2015 Author Posted July 27, 2015 Tyrese Confirms He’s Met with Warner Bros for Green Lantern Corps. “I’ve already had a couple of meetings at Warner Bros., so we’ll see what happens. I do believe that there needs to be more black superheroes out there, but that’s not even my motivation. I think I would be the best Green Lantern and based on my fans and supporters that spent around $6 billion in box office receipts, I feel like there’s a fanbase of fans out there waiting to see me put on this green suit and do my thing. So I would love to confirm something today but I can’t. We’ll just keep following up" Quote
Little Nemo McFly Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 (edited) LOL! A fanbase of fans...LOL! What's sad is that he's right. It's not about who's best for the role anymore with these superhero movies, but who can bring in the most money. Waiting for the announcement that Brad Pitt is playing Uncle Ben following the news that Marisa Tomei is playing Aunt May. The animated First Flight movie was cool. They gotta keep Green Lantern in space, DC is naturally gonna be competing w/ Guardians of the Galaxy and the eventual Captain Marvel. I'm really interested in seeing both these titans (Marvel / DC) venturing into outer space films / stories. Edited July 27, 2015 by Little Nemo McFly Quote
The NZA Posted July 27, 2015 Author Posted July 27, 2015 Man, i still gotta watch Emerald Knights, but First Flight was indeed awesome - felt like Training Day for GL. if that was the movie, i'd be so hype. Quote
Jumbie Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Oh please, Tyrese, The Japanese guy drew more money to those Fast movies than you did... ---- ---- ---- I feel you on Kyle, Nick, but he can't be properly introduced until they kill off the Corps and all... He'll have to come along in the 4th movie. Tentatively to be released 2029. Which means, the eventual Kyle Raynor actor is probably about 10-years-old right now, running around the backyard with his friends pretending to be Starlord. Quote
Da Cap'n 2099 Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Lot a Tyrese hate goin' on on the page. Give the guy a chance, why dontcha. Quote
Jumbie Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Hate? A lot? I like the guy OK, he's entertaining when used right. His delivery of 'We hungry' in F&F 2 was not just funny, but good acting. But to claim credit for 6 billion in box office because he had parts in 2 big franchises? c'mon, he's pushing it. Quote
Iambaytor Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 I think Tyreese would be fine, he's a good personality and an underrated actor. Also, John Stewart doesn't have much of a personality as far as characters go, he's largely undefined beyond Phil Lamar's portrayal on the Justice League animated series so Tyreese can make John Stewart whatever he needs to be. There's a lot of places this could go but I really do hope they take this in a buddy cop direction, I think there's a lot of Lethal Weaponesque chemistry to be mined from a Marine sniper and an Air Force pilot as super-powered space cops. Quote
Little Nemo McFly Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 That guy from those Transformers and Fast n Furious movies? Naw, man. Don't go down that route, DC. I don't see Tyrese as a fit for the Green Lantern. Just ain't gellin' w/ me. Only reason I'd see him being cast is because DC is playing it safe - trying to ensure big bucks at the premiere. He'd stick out like a sore thumb to me. Out of place. Whoever plays John Stewart is gonna have the opportunity to make it their own and possibly cast the mold for future interpretations. Any movies Tyrese has done where you see him as Green Lantern? Quote
Iambaytor Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 He's been in other movies and he's a good actor. He's not just an "aw hell no" black stock character. His character from Flight of the Phoenix is about what I'd like to see out of John Stewart. Quote
Keth Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 I'll unashamedly admit I quite enjoyed the latest Fast and Furious movies (didn't see the last one though) and know that Tyrese was one of the more enjoyable actors of those. Dude isn't bad, he's just in a lot of tentpole, blockbuster stuff that people like to shit on for being tentpole blockbuster stuff. (I do this with Transformers honestly.) Quote
Jumbie Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 I think Tyrese did OK with a job that required him to portray a serious character in Legion. Of course, that movie had other issues, but he wasn't one of them. I think that once the director is clear, it will be a good John Stewart. Quote
Little Nemo McFly Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 (edited) Okay - so apparently Tyrese is the one banging on Warner's door. This article makes some good points. http://www.forbes.co...-green-lantern/ Idris Elba is a great example of the kind of actor, I think, suits the role of Green Lantern (John Stewart). Serious. Authoritive. Adult. Edited July 29, 2015 by Little Nemo McFly Quote
Da Cap'n 2099 Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Idris Elba would be great, but he's already got a cosmic superhero gig. Quote
Little Nemo McFly Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Yeah - but that type of actor, y'know? Like Denzel Washington. Stern, serious. They need to eliminate distracting elements and focus on what will make it the best film it can be. A Green Lantern movie done right could really be something. Seriously, man - damn these celebrities! LOL - it all has to have big-name celebs! Damn! LOL Quote
Iambaytor Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Also, Idris Elba has plenty of work and certainly we could find at least one black American actor to play a black American superhero. Quote
Iambaytor Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Yeah - but that type of actor, y'know? Like Denzel Washington. Stern, serious. Yeah, we don't want any strictly comedic actors like Tom Hanks, Robin Williams, Walter Mathau, Robert Downey Jr., Bill Murray, Jim Carrey, or Jackie Gleason because it's a known fact that funny people can't play dramatic roles. I'm telling you, he can play stern and serious, he just gets typecast. Not a bad substitute. Though I don't know why you think he has anything that Tyrese Gibson lacks (other than martial arts expertise,( Quote
Keth Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 I think Denzel Washington has a clause in his contracts that he must be chewing gum 100% of the time. Quote
