Adonis Johnson (Jordan) never knew his famous father, world heavyweight champion Apollo Creed, who died before he was born. Still, there's no denying that boxing is in his blood, so Adonis heads to Philadelphia, the site of Apollo Creed's legendary match with a tough upstart named Rocky Balboa.

Once in the City of Brotherly Love, Adonis tracks Rocky (Stallone) down and asks him to be his trainer. Despite his insistence that he is out of the fight game for good, Rocky sees in Adonis the strength and determination he had known in Apollo--the fierce rival who became his closest friend. Agreeing to take him on, Rocky trains the young fighter, even as the former champ is battling an opponent more deadly than any he faced in the ring.

With Rocky in his corner, it isn't long before Adonis gets his own shot at the title...but can he develop not only the drive but also the heart of a true fighter, in time to get into the ring?

Loved this movie so much! It was exhilarating and it's always fun when a movie makes the audience clap and cheer out loud! I didn't expect to be so moved by it. I cried more than once.

I loved seeing Stallone win the Golden Globe for Creed last night! I felt it was much deserved, and he seemed so humbled and grateful for it. Also happy to see Michael B. Jordan enjoying more success! Loved him as Wallace on the Wire and he was fantastic in Fruitvale Station.

Sylvester Stallone Almost Boycotted the Oscars

Sylvester Stallone said Monday that he considered boycotting this year’s Oscars over the lack of diversity among this year’s nominees.

...

“I remember I spoke with Ryan Coogler when this happened and I said, ‘How do you want to handle this? Because I feel like you are responsible for me being here,'” Stallone said before the luncheon honoring this year’s Oscars nominees.

“I said, ‘If you don’t want me to go, I won’t.’ He said, ‘I want you to go.’ That’s the kind of guy he is,” Stallone said. “He wanted me to stand up for the film.”

...

The actor also praised the Academy’s efforts to improve the diversity of its membership, announced in the wake of the #OscarsSoWhite uproar over this year’s nominations. “There’s a universal law of existence — you either adapt or cease to exist,” he said.

pretty classy, i thought - unexpected from a hardcore replublican, but there it is. good on him.

best movie of 2015 - the nza, internet person

Saw it a few nights ago and thought it was pretty good. A little corny in places, but I liked it as a whole. CREED is a good example of how to technically do a reboot of a franchise in the guise of a sequel. Not sure if it's Oscar worthy, but Stallone definitely gave one of the best performances I can recall him in. CREED also made me want to go back and watch the old Rocky films. I wonder if they're on Netflix...

A gripe about Bianca though...

Was no one else bothered that she totally abandoned Doni not only while he was training for the biggest fight of his career but also when the closest person he ever had to a father was dying of cancer?!?!? Then she just walks all back into his life like, "Heeey," on the eve of the bout? I know having her there makes for good cuts during the fight, but it seemed like a big stretch the way it was handled. Kinda corny.

Steven Caple Jr. to Direct ‘Creed 2’

MGM and Warner Bros. have tapped up-and-coming director Steven Caple Jr. to direct Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone in “Creed 2,” sources tell Variety, with production expected to start in spring 2018.

Along with Jordan and Stallone, Tessa Thompson will also return for the sequel, reprising her role as Bianca.

Stallone had considered directing “Creed 2” at one point, but after talking it over with Jordan and the execs, they made the decision to find another director. After a lengthy search, Jordan and Stallone personally picked Caple to take the reins.

The gig is Caple’s first feature at a major studio. Insiders say his work on the IFC pic “The Land,” Caple’s coming-of-age tale that he directed right out of USC, was a big selling point for Jordan, Stallone, and the execs. “The Land” premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival and tells the story of four teenage boys who devote their summer to escaping the streets of Cleveland to pursue a dream life of professional skateboarding.

prolly a good idea to not have sly direct, what with the rape accusations & all

And on a quiet night you can still hear Dana White screaming down a phone about a bloke named Connor who'd be perfect for the part.

I dug the first one,  agree with Haku's gripe,  and am keen for a second.
