Ben Affleck project Latino-Review previous reported is still a go, aiming for November 2018 now. Chris Terrio, who has writing credits on Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice and has been announced as a writer for both Justice League films will write the movie for Ben Affleck to direct himself in. It’s still called The Batman, and it still sounds like it could be amazing.

some good credits so far

Ben Affleck to co-write, star, and direct

EXCLUSIVE: Here’s one for the Comic-Con crowd to gnaw on. I’m told that Ben Affleck is teaming up with Geoff Johns to co-write a stand-alone Batman movie that Affleck will direct and star in after he completes his longstanding plan to helm his scripted adaptation of the Dennis Lehane novel Live By Night. Johns has about as much comic cred as anybody around. He’s DC Comics’ chief creative officer and has written some of its best remembered comic book series including Green Lantern, Aquaman, Batman, Justice League Unlimited, The Flash and Superman. He also has written TV series superhero transfers Smallville, Arrow and The Flash, as well as the Supergirl project with Greg Berlanti for CBS.

I dunno about BvS. The whole thing hasn't really made me super excited, but I can get behind this news.

Rumored plot for Ben Affleck's solo Batman movie

Our sources indicate that Red Hood will be a key player in the first new solo Batman film, which is said to be adapting both the "A Death in the Family" and "Under The Hood" storylines from the comics. Essentially, Red Hood is DC’s answer to Marvel’s Winter Soldier; former sidekicks gone evil and seeking a chance at redemption.

Recently, Ben Affleck said he’s interested in directing the solo Batman film, which he is writing with DC's own Geoff Johns. According to our sources, the basic plotline of Affleck’s solo Batfilm is that Jason Todd has returned from the grave as the Red Hood, working in the shadows to make people think he's Batman, while making Batman look like a criminal. At the same time he leaves clues about his identity for Bruce/Batman to ultimately solve, leading to a confrontation that will involve Batman, Red Hood, and yes, The Joker, who will feature as a primary villain alongside Red Hood.

Naturally, the question will come up about whether or not Red Hood will be referenced as the second Robin and if Dick Grayson, the first Robin will play a role. According to our sources, Grayson is now Nightwing and will be referenced but not seen in Batman V Superman. However, Grayson is expected to show up in the solo Bat-film, assisting Batman in his battle against Red Hood and The Joker.

source is supposed to be pretty legit too

I liked the theory that Leto's Joker was actually Jason Todd and a second iteration of him. And the tattoos (J under his eye for Jason etc) were reminders to Batman on how he failed him. Would have made the tats more bearable as a character feature and made sense.

Weird how there's already pretty well done animated adaptions of Under the Red Hood and The Dark Knight Returns and that they are both getting live-action adaptions. Superman vs Batman is pretty much Dark Knight Returns, to me.

I hear that The Killing Joke is getting an animated adaption, too. Wouldn't be surprised if DC's strategy to counter Marvel's domination of the box-office is to straight-up do live-action adaptions of kick-ass classic DC stories - kinda what they're doing on their animated end. Could work - but my immediate reaction is 'didn't they already do a pretty successful adaption?'.

Batman solo movie confirmed with Ben Affleck starring, writing (director still TBD)

At the Warner Bros. panel at CinemaCon in Las Vegas Tuesday evening, CEO Kevin Tsujihara first took the stage to give a general rundown of upcoming movies from the studio. After saying they have "at least 10" DC Comics movies coming in the next five years., Tsujihara finally gave studio confirmation to a long-rumored product.

"We're working with Ben Affleck on a standalone Batman movie," the CEO announced.

This is the first confirmation from a Warner Bros. executive that the movie exists, though there have been little quotes and hints here and there about the film. The rumors that Affleck would be writing and starring in a Batman film, possibly directing as well, have been going almost since he was cast in the role. More recently, it was said that he and Geoff Johns, CCO of DC Entertainment, were working on the script together.

It is but it has the unfortunate job of having to live in the shadow of Batman the Animated Series. If you can find a way to ignore that knee-jerk reaction you get when you see a take on a character which is wildly different than it was in the Bruce Timm-verse then you'll have a good time. It's a darker series so I think you'd dig it.

Sounds intriguing. The fact that it's pretty much impossible to follow up Batman The Animated Series, is mainly why i never checked it out initially. Time to remedy that it sounds.

Affleck's The Batman Set for 2018, Filming Starting Spring 2017

Ben Affleck's The Batman is on schedule to debut in 2018, according to outgoing Warner Bros. top executive Greg Silverman. Silverman, the studio's President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production, disclosed this news in an 'exit interview' with Deadline as an example of movies he's set up for the studio's long-term future.

“Then in 2018, there is a second Fantastic Beasts film, and Ready Player One feels like an ambitious movie by the world’s best filmmaker, Steven Spielberg, that will set the world on fire. There is Aquaman with James Wan, and Scooby Doo will be a huge launch and then there is Lego Ninjago. And then there is Ben Affleck’s Batman. I believe the place I love is set to succeed in the long term here, and I can be a bit selfish and think, ‘How do I want to live my own life?’ Tech, China and investing are real passions for me that have emerged over the past few years. But if I didn’t know everything would be OK for everybody here, it would have been a lot harder to start my own thing.”

Ben Affleck is writing, directing, producing, and starring in the Batman film - which he's said is tentatively titled The Batman - and is set to begin filming in spring 2017.

Earler this month there was an unconfirmed report that 2019's planned Justice League sequel was being delayed in order for the studio to focus on The Batman, but a 2018 release date would put it even earlier. DC Films has several non-specific release dates reserved in 2019 and 2020, but none in 2018 to date.

Interestingly though, another 2018 DC film - The Flash - was not mentioned by Silverman. That film is scheduled for release March 19, 2018, however with the departure of its second director there has been speculation it could be delayed. It's possible that Affleck's The Batman could take over that spot - which would concidentally be the same week of the year Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was released in 2016.

^ love that Combo-Streak

Batman is the star of the DC universe. Everybody loves Batman. If they simply double-down and focus on making a great Bat-flick - it could mean the world for the DC...CU? DC Cinematic Universe...?

I've expressed my selfish desire for a radically different Comic Cinematic Universe than what Marvel is doing (sumthing akin to Watchmen) - but, JL looks like it's takin' it to the 'safe n' sure' route that Marvel has paved. I really liked Man of Steel. I hope they bring Bats back down to that level of grit / reality...not the Transformers / destruction-porn part - but the grounded / pathos part. Meaning.

There's a lot of good in BvS - but enough blind ambition to bog the whole thing down in greedy...toy pandering.

Ben Affleck: Solo Batman movie is not set, won't do it if the script isn't right

Instead, they’re sitting in their office, talking about other people’s scripts and their own film projects. Though the batman costume in the foyer is from Affleck’s caped crusader in Zack Snyder’s messy Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, word is that he will get to direct his own superhero movie, tentatively titled The Batman. “That’s the idea. But it’s not a set thing and there’s no script. If it doesn’t come together in a way I think is really great I’m not going to do it.”

Ask him why he took the Batman role and he replies with characteristic honesty that he did it for his son. “Sam thinks his dad is Batman,” he laughs. “That’s an incredible feeling.” Everyone wants to be a superhero to their son, although it strikes me that one of the best things about Affleck is that he remains endearingly human.

so...maybe not going down at all?

Maybe after the Justice League thing (Pt. 1 n' 2?) is done n' over w/ - they'll just reboot the DC universe and relaunch it w/ a solo Batman flick. I think currently, a lot is hanging on the Wonder Woman reception. I've mentioned this elsewhere - the DCCU could potentially recover w/ a string of solid solo flicks, but...maybe they're anticipating an upcoming reboot - and they're saving a solo Bats just for that? Total speculation, of course.

I can totally see the internet just tearing JL (and the DCCU brand) into shreds if it's anything less than a masterpiece. The whole thing is teetering at this point, in my opinion.

These superhero cinematic-shared-universe-franchise-things are new - Spider-man's been rebooted twice already...fairly quickly. At sum point, cinematic-shared-universe-franchise reboots are gonna be the norm, too. Maybe they should just wrap up what they're doing and start over - it's not exactly making a splash.

We've been shouting this from the rooftops during our show, hoping that this is the way they would go with it. Keep what worked in the not good films, and just relaunch the whole thing.

...Just have Doctor Manhattan do what he did in the comics to the DCEU >.>;

Batman on Film: The Batman production pushed back, Justice League is "a mess"

Apparently, the brakes on the Batmobile have been tapped.

According to a longtime BOF source, THE BATMAN has been “pushed back.” How long? “A couple of months” I was told. If this is indeed the case, it means that THE BATMAN won’t start filming until mid-Summer at the earlier. Thus, a July 2018 release now will be in question as will a release in 2018 period.

Or – and this would be the worst case scenario – perhaps Affleck knows that JUSTICE LEAGUE is going to suck (I'm hearing it's a mess -- I hope it's not!) and is ready to bail on the DCEU before he gets GIGLY’ed (again) by it.

Look, I hope (i.e. desparately want) that Ben Affleck directs THE BATMAN, so here’s hoping the reason behind this alleged delay in production the first hypothetical I proposed above. But, something’s up with THE BATMAN, no doubt about it. Could this be why Affleck's comments about THE BATMAN suddenly changed here recently? I'm not going to lie, I'm a bit worried, but I'll remain optimistic (because I really want this to happen).

if this holds, i get why affleck might be starting to back off
