Donatella Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Y THO. It seems silly lamenting about why we have so many reboots and remakes at this point. But we really could've stopped at the first Magnificent Seven, which was itself a remake! This just seems so unnecessary. Sigh. Pretty nice cast, though. Could be fun. Quote
the division of joy Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 I wonder how many people are gonna think its a sequel to Ridiculous Six. Quote
the division of joy Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 To go old school, I'm gonna have to Haku you a +1 for that. Quote
The NZA Posted April 21, 2016 Author Posted April 21, 2016 Y THO. we do not get many cool looking westerns these days, donnie you're not gonna take this from meeeee Quote
Donatella Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 we do not get many cool looking westerns these days, donnie you're not gonna take this from meeeee But wouldn't you prefer something original and fresh? Quote
The NZA Posted April 21, 2016 Author Posted April 21, 2016 probably, but i don't know how many studios would've gone for that, when stuff like True Grit seems to do far better. thing is, the genre's laregly based off dimestore novels & retelling of that, so even great ones in the modern era like Tombstone have had a few retellings...so i don't mind, and can point to more original stuff like The Quick & The Dead and say i didn't much care for what we got. like, most would prolly say Hateful 8 was a recent entry into the genre, but it wasn't one i fancied much. stuff like The Proposition makes me think i should be looking at other countries to take chances with westerns. *edit someone's about to come in here & tell me to shut my whore mouth and go watch Bone Tomahawk, which i really should do Quote
Da Cap'n 2099 Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 I'm weary because of the star power. Ususally the best westerns are the ones with a small budget and no stars. Still, one of my favorites of all time was Tombstone so I will shut my whore mouth. Quote

Da Cap'n 2099 Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 (edited) I'll watch this tho. Looks cool... So... the Heat are in the playoffs. Up 2-0... *takes leave* Edited April 21, 2016 by Da Cap'n 2099 Quote
Iambaytor Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Okay but here's the thing. If anything, this remake isn't stopping any new westerns getting made. If anything it's success will be a boon to the genre because people will make more. And the magnificent seven is such an archetype that no amount of retellings and redos will make it go stale. I'm all for new ideas but if we didn't get remakes we wouldn't have True Grit, 3:10 to Yuma, Django, A Fistful of Dollars, or the original Magnificent Seven. Quote
Donatella Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Yeah, I guess you're right. Westerns just seem to be such a forgotten genre and it would just be nice to see a fresh take on it that doesn't suck! Quote
the division of joy Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Can't we just resurrect Sergio Leone and be done with it. Quote
Keth Posted April 21, 2016 Posted April 21, 2016 Eh, this doesn't look that-- Wait... A Cowboy Ninja? OK I GUESS I'LL WATCH IT Quote

I also hear good things about The Bed-Sitting Room and Kill or Be Killed, and some mixed stuff about Diablo. Quote
The NZA Posted April 22, 2016 Author Posted April 22, 2016 crazy to think that with them being so neglected nowadays (which i understand), ive read they're still the most made genre of all time, due to all the b-tier stuff in their glory days I also hear good things about The Bed-Sitting Room and Kill or Be Killed, and some mixed stuff about Diablo. go onnnnn (when you get around to watchin em) Quote
