Barbershop, The Next Cut

The trailer for this looked unfunny and flat, but Rotten Tomatoes is showing 92% positive.

 

Anyone care to guide me on what this movie is and isn't.

 

I thought the first Barbershop was fun so if it feels like it's that funny and that kind of funny, I'll see it.

Cube's been hyping it like crazy, naturally...i honestly dont usually set out to watch these or soul plane/etc, it just ends up happening. that's a high % for a comedy, though!

I saw the trailer before Krampus of all things and it looked decent enough. I haven't seen the other two or beauty shop so I have nothing further to add.

Supposedly it delves into Cube's character's son becoming a gangbanger on Chicago's Southside, so critics are likely not sticking their noses up at this comedy due to its social message. Apparently it is still outta control in Chicgo with violence. I would've thought Spike Lee's Chi-raq could've fixed that shit by now.

OMG, I saw the first 15 minutes of that and figured it was some low budget indie project that went straight to video. SOooo many long pauses and endless shots of cars being parked etc.
