Keth Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 I'm kinda 50/50 on that. It looks like it has a good amount of humor and keeps some of the old cheesiness, but it isn't mixing quite well with the gritty vibe it's trying to go for either. The effects look good though and Elizabeth Banks is always a plus! Quote
Da Cap'n 2099 Posted October 8, 2016 Author Posted October 8, 2016 Yeah, that teaser didn't do much for me, but still warranted a thread imo. Quote
Iambaytor Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 Eh, I'm game for a Chronicles take on Power Rangers. That spooky trailer-piano cover of I Walk the Line is a travesty, though. Quote
Mr. Hakujin Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 Yeah, Chronicle was the first thing I thought of when I saw that trailer. Member Chronicle? The stripping down of popular songs to just piano is a trend that's actaully growing on me. They're using it a lot in Mr. Robot & West World episodes, too. Quote
Visitant Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 Welp looks like I wasn't the only one in the "It's chronicle" camp, which is good to know. I gave it a little shit for them just getting superpowers but my gf (who is younger than me and did watch more of the show than I did) said apparently that's something that happened in the later series. Quote
Mr. Hakujin Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 I never sat through an entire episode of the TV show. The theme song has been seared into my brain though. I loved Chronicle, so I might give this film a try though. Quote
Little Nemo McFly Posted October 21, 2016 Posted October 21, 2016 I looove the original run of Power Rangers. Never got into Turbo or any of the later stuff - but I was really into that initial splash. I started to fall off when the original cast / roster began to change. LOL - the movie always bugged me that it didn't feature the original cast. It looks a'ight. It kinda lost me at the end w/ that lame-o chic floating over the bed. It's a great premise - it could be awesome. (I have no idea what Chronicle is) I don't dig that they got super powers outta costume (un-morphed). Seriously - dude gets floored trying to head-butt an un-morphed Ranger? I guess when they beat down waves of Putty's - it'd be more exciting if they were all super-strong outta 'costume'. (shrugs) Dr. Tim Whatley (from Seinfeld) is playing Zordon - that is so awesome! I've read he has ties to the original run - I think he was a voice-actor and voiced a few villains of the week. I honestly can't wait to see what Alpha-5 is gonna look like. As a big fan of the 1st gen - I'm excited as hell to see more. Keeping expectations very tempered. Quote
Iambaytor Posted October 21, 2016 Posted October 21, 2016 Nemo. You need to watch like the last 3 episodes of Power Rangers Turbo (for context) and then watch Power Rangers in Space. You'll have a good time. Quote
Little Nemo McFly Posted October 22, 2016 Posted October 22, 2016 Wutchoo mean? The mythos eventually took it were they're naturally super-strong? Ah. Yeah, I'll definitely youtube those eps n' check out how it plays. I personally love the 'eats me spinach' moment when they eventually get overwhelmed by 'hired goons'. Already having super-strength...eh...but that's my preference. I could see it working, tho. I never sat through an entire episode of the TV show. Quote
Iambaytor Posted October 22, 2016 Posted October 22, 2016 Nah, it didn't give them powers but In Space is the end of the story for the Mighty Morphin universe and it's a damn fine end. There's also a two-parter where they fight and then team up with the Ninja Turtles which is dumb but enjoyable. Quote

LOL - I think it was one of those things I looked up when youtube n' wikipedia became a thing. I had no idea who anybody was - all I remember is... Rita and Zedd turning into humans(?) and hooking up. Not much else. Oh yeah, I think a crapload of monster/villain cameos. Been so long - check it out as a curiosity...but I had no idea what was what. That Turtle team-up - LOL - I remember what a big deal that was...and what a cringey yet, 'can't...look...away' event it was. God. LOL! Quote
The NZA Posted October 22, 2016 Posted October 22, 2016 i'm actually with haku here, i remember when it was big but i was watching other stuff, never saw an ep. Quote
Little Nemo McFly Posted October 22, 2016 Posted October 22, 2016 (edited) How in the hell were you guys able to escape that intro?! Edited October 22, 2016 by Little Nemo McFly Quote

Watching the ending alone doesn't pay off well enough, you gotta have the build-up. I promise you, In Space is the best iteration of Power Rangers that ever did or ever will exist. Quote

Little Nemo McFly Posted October 27, 2016 Posted October 27, 2016 (edited) Can't find any of the 'In Space' episodes on youtube. I've been trying to get on Netflix and check there - but it's been down the past couple o' days. I think I caught a glimpse of blurb somewhere that some group out there hacked Netflix and Twitter and blocked people from accessing it? (shrugs) Ah dunno. I'll try again tonite. I found this, tho - all Season 1 'unmorphed' fights! I clicked outta curiosity of the edit and ended up watching the whole thing - LOL! Cool to see the evolution of the show through 20-second fight sequences. I remember how awesome it was when they added 'metal' to the fights - LOL! @ 27:09 Edited October 27, 2016 by Little Nemo McFly Quote
Little Nemo McFly Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 Alpha-5 reboot concept art. "Fucking. Awesome." Quote
Visitant Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 (edited) I watched series 1, saw the first movie and I dunno saw up till some white ranger stuff. I wasn't obsessed I guess I just outgrew it really fast due to my age - but my GF was a HUGE fan of it and wants to see it opening night. Considering how many "we have to see this opening night" things i've thrown at her in the past, this is the least I can do. Plus, it looks like it will be fun. I mean its not that super dark reimagining we got a while back, but this should do nicely. (she hates this pic because she was derping out over getting to meet him) Edited November 30, 2016 by Bindusara 1 Quote
Little Nemo McFly Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 LOL - WHOOOA!!! AWESOME! It's great how he's embraced the character's legacy now. Kinda like Shatner, they initially resented the role - but came around to appreciating the impact it's had on people and their love for the fantasy of it all. Shit - I'd be goin' nuts, too if I got to meet and get a pic w 'Tommy'! That initial run was awesome - I fell off really fast, too, but damn - the cheese and the 'jarring jumps' to japanese footage, the rubber suits...cardboard cities...great fun - loved it. Still do. A different time. Man, now I want one of these things... Quote

Visitant Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 Shit - I'd be goin' nuts, too if I got to meet and get a pic w 'Tommy'! Funny enough, we just ran into him while barhopping here in Austin. They wouldn't let him in the speakeasy because he didn't have I.D and got REALLY pissed and kept looking for somewhere to drink. Sometime later we ran into him again over at the Jackalope, who - i assume, knew who the fuck he was and let him in to get boozed up. Quote
Little Nemo McFly Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 Fixed. LOL - How dare you... It's real! It's real! But really - he inspired alotta kids to get into all that karate stuff. Pretty healthy hobby. I'm pretty sure that kind of stellar humanitarian would refuse any form of compensation for any of his appearances or classes. Quote
Little Nemo McFly Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 It kinda lost me at the end w/ that lame-o chic floating over the bed. Still. That 'villain' design is just so...ugh...damn jarring. Ain't feelin' it. If that's supposed to be Rita - it is a damn shame that's the best they could do. If it ain't Rita - it's a damn shame that's the best design they could do. Overall - (shrugs) eh, still onboard, but I cringe at the super-lame...villainess(?) Lookin' forward to sum clean shots of the Zords. Quote
