Da Cap'n 2099
Gave this show a try and while it's not perfect, it's quite serviceable. Hell, on a network that has no restrictions, this can kinda be a masterpiece. So, the potential is there. As far as the horror elements go: some of the most unnerving I've seen on a network show. It does suffer from the Slow BurnsTM, but the revelations peppered throughout definitely make up for it. Eight episodes in to a ten episode first season and I'm finally off the fence and making this thread. I probably could have pimped it earlier, but I was being overly critical because of the iconic-ness of the source material. If you're a diehard Exorcist fan, this deserves, at least, a small rubberneck.
Donatella
I am a diehard Exorcist fan (first film only) and had not heard of this show! I'm curious!
Iambaytor
So Exorcist 3 didn't do it for you?
Donatella
I didn't hate it but didn't love it the way I do the first one!
Iambaytor
I could see that, I am pumped to see the new Legion cut though. I'm hoping it irons out some of the problems with the movie. What are your thoughts on the "VERSION YOU'VE NEVER SEEN" cut of the first one?
Donatella
Is that the one that was released in theaters with the stairway spider walk scene? If so, it was nice being able to see it on the big screen but I wasn't impressed by any of the additions. Then again, I grew up watching the original and was very protective of it! Donatella
Ooh, it's on Hulu! I'll see if NZA wants to watch with me, but even if not, I'll give it a shot soon!
Visitant
Finished ep 6 last night. It's surprising how well they managed to turn this into a series. Rarely do I audibly go WTF during a show but when they got to that twist, even before they said it I was going "no fucking way. no. no fucking way they are doing that". apparently no one knew it was coming, even the fox execs. they kept it hidden from literally 'errybody. Da Cap'n 2099
That takes balls, man. Makes me like the show even more now.
Visitant
Considering that foresight could have (possibly) increased ratings (cause advertising)? Nope. you wanted the show to make it on its own merits and THEN drop that bomb. Huge balls.
Keth
Ok I watched the first ep. I'll be straight up here, I'm not a fan of the original film. I respect it for being what it is, but it never scared me and just didn't do it for me for one reason or another... That said I enjoyed the shit out of this first episode. Very interesting with some pretty creepy shit happening. Then the music hit, and I admit I got some chills with that. This is gonna be fun. Da Cap'n 2099
Now I'm confused because your italicized comment is italicized. I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S REAL ANYMORE!
Keth
Season 2 just started and it starts strong. Hope it keeps this pace!
Da Cap'n 2099
Yeah, season 2 came out the gate kickin. Hyped for the rest of the season. Edited October 1, 2017 by Da Cap'n 2099
Da Cap'n 2099
Season 1 was all about the reveal, season 2 is all about the feels. Damn, this was a great season. Sure, some of the acting leaves something to be desired (not from the main guys, tho. John Cho also brings the heat), but this show really is a hidden gem. If this was on HBO or even AMC this would be the best show on tv.
Keth
John Cho was fucking awesome! I also love the guy that plays Marcus. If he leaves, it'll be hard for me to stick around. That said, this was a really good season. I just wish they would slide back from the mythology a little bit. The exorcisms themselves just seem too strict. I hope they get more creative with them besides chanting shit over and over. I get that's supposed to be how it's done, but it gets kinda tedious.
Da Cap'n 2099
It didn't bother me that much during the show, but, yeah, I can see what you're saying. That said: you don't think Tomas' ability to enter possessed people and confront the demon is a new thing? Edited December 29, 2017 by Da Cap'n 2099
Keth
Oh no, that's definitely one of the coolest things. Being able to battle the demon face to face. I liked that. But in the end, it didn't work out like they thought it would. Granted, that's all new ground and Tomas is still trying to get a handle on it. I want them to expand on that ability more for sure. Da Cap'n 2099
Yeah, all season everyone mentions how special Tomas is. I only see them expanding on it. And I'm sure this isn't the last we see of Marcus. He'll make his way back to Tomas eventually. I like how Tomas will be getting a new teacher for at least the beginning of season 3.
