Keth
So there's no general FF thread. So here ya go. Rumor: Collection containing I-IX on one disc for PS4 2017 will be the 30th anniversary for Final Fantasy and Square Enix will celebrate the milestone with the following items: Final Fantasy releases in 2017 to celebrate the anniversary: Square will launch Final Fantasy VII Remake (first episode) and Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age as main games to celebrate the Final Fantasy’s birthday. Final Fantasy XIII trilogy is coming to PS4 during the next year. The bundle will include Final Fantasy XIII, XIII-2 and Lightning Returns on separate discs to be enjoined in 1080p and 60fps. Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary Collection This compilation will include Final Fantasy I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII and IX and it will be released on PS4 and PS Vita in a single disc/card. It will include two versions of Final Fantasy I to VI: original versions from NES/SNES and modern ports (mostly mobile ports). FF VII to IX will be based only in newest ports. Final Fantasy II and III from NES will receive an official English translation (first time). Games will be based on Japanese versions, therefore we will be able to play parts that were cut out when games were released overseas. Graphical censorship included in some titles when they were released outside Japan will remain. The collection will have a built-in art gallery and a sound test menu to play songs from games included. Just for the record: this compilation will include just main Final Fantasy titles (I to IX). Iambaytor
I'd totally buy it if it's real, even if it's only a cheap compilation disc. And Square has been releasing absurd things, do you know that they've put ALL the previous Kingdom Hearts games (that's counting the ones for Nintendo DS and PSP) on a PS4 release so you can get caught up with the story going into Kingdom Hearts 3? We're talking like 8 games in two releases. Shit's insane.
The NZA
^i cannot imagine trying to make sense of KH story, that franchise always struck me as where FF plotlines go to die (and most FF plotlines end in the crapper anyway) but yeah, good news here! been waiting on XII Zodiac International HD thing for a while now, and that 30 year collection disc sounds like a blast, been meaning to replay IX one day anyway. i wasn't fond of the mobile art styles but a friend showed me how close they were to amano's manual designs in japan and i guess i came around a little bit, we'll see how it looks on a big screen. still, a pretty cool package overall. Visitant
Aw yis, generic FF thread. SO let's discuss somethings: 1.) SE has really turned things around in the last few years. They have taken a few risks which have paid off. One of the biggest deals is essentially making a "secret society" that makes all the large scale decisions for the brand. (instead of just shitting games out, the counsel debates - votes etc). They may or may not dress as org XIII members for meetings. But is it their influence helping the brand to succeed or is it just the fans who miss the brand? 2.) FF7 while fun, was a pos in terms of story, which was confirmed by SE. (too many teams working on it etc). We know we are getting a FF7 remaster, but do people HONESTLY believe it's going to be a 1 to 1 remake? (sure, we want to spend all our time making art assets for cloud in drag). If you believe it's not, won't that fundamentally divide the FF7 user base into the traditionalists and those who believe the remake is superior? 3.) FF7 remake. Cash grab or no? Personally I say yes. SE has said over and over they didn't want to do the remake yet. I think they are doing it now as a cash grab and to finally just shut people up. (thus the episodic content). 4.) FFXIV was remade and is still going strong. How the fuck did they pull off the impossible? (remake an MMO from the ground up and relaunch it so successfully) I have some theories but would like to hear yours first. 5.) We need a new, actual sequel to FFT. Not a question, more a statement of fact. 6.) What's your fav ff game?

The NZA
Final Fantasy VII, IX, X/X-2 HD, and XII: The Zodiac Age announced for Switch, XB1, and Steam (2019) 21 years later, Nintendo finally got FFVII
Visitant
But more importantly - fuck FF8 1 1
Little Nemo McFly
CANNOT. WAIT. Sooo pumped for FFVII - the HD (PC) Edition. I've never experienced the game all crisp-like. (I got my expectations of how crisp in check - I've seen reviews of the PC version) I own the original version / discs...it's all I got / ever had access to. Not part of the PC Master Race...not for lack of trying. FF8 is where I fell off the series. I devoured FFVI and FFVII - the cartoony / sword n' sorcery / steam punky aesthetic is part of the draw for me to the series. I saw that FF9 returned to that 'look' - always wanted to play it...I've just never had access to it. SOOO READY for these releases.
The NZA
yes, VIII can do that, it's not a good game IX is fantastic though, you're in for a treat there - even at launch, it felt like a love letter to old school FF fans. i need to replay it one day
Little Nemo McFly
Bonus if there are physical releases - but, I expect these to be E Shop stuff. I'm kew w/ that. I'm not gonna wait. Everything is getting the HD treatment - I need a release date!

The NZA
so these pixel remasters are mostly just steam so far - here's pics of VI (the GOAT) and damn, it's like they're using the original stuff with something like the octopath traveler engine or something? looks fantastic
