What was your favorite live event (concert, sporting event, play, festival, convention, etc.) you attended in 2017?

Didn't attend any legit live concerts, but did catch my buddy, Ariel, DJ in front of thousands of folks, like, half a dozen times this year. Also, went to the Canes/Syracuse game where we won. It was my first time back at Hard Rock Stadium since it was renovated. Great time.

Favorite musical artist of 2017?

Kendrick. Future. Lil Uzi Vert. And probably Migos, too :/

What song did you hit “repeat” on the most in 2017?

Kendrick's DNA and Humble got heavy rotation. Future's Mask Off and then Mask Off Remix featuring Kendrick also.

Favorite book and/or comic you read in 2017?

The finale of the Blade of the Immortal manga. So satisfying.

Favorite TV show you binge watched in 2017?

Punisher. Stranger Things. And, probably, JoJo Bizarre Adventure, bizarrely.

Favorite TV show you watched week to week in 2017?

Game of Thrones. Walking Dead. Dragon Ball Super. Curb.

Favorite animated series of 2017?

Rick and Morty. My Hero Academia.

Favorite animated film of 2017?

Was LEGO Batman this year? Because I finally saw it, like, last month.

Favorite documentary of 2017?

Robert Kirkman's Secret History of Comics series on AMC was pretty cool and fun.

Favorite comedy film of 2017?

Thor: Ragnarok. So much fun.

Favorite action and/or sci-fi film of 2017?

Spidey: Homcoming. Guadians vol. 2. Baby Driver. Blade of the Immortal.

Now that a few have posted theirs I'll share mine...

  1. What was your favorite live event (concert, sporting event, play, festival, convention, etc.) you attended in 2017? For now it’d be seeing Stevie Wonder at Jazz Fest. But if the Saints beat the Falcons on Christmas Eve in the Dome then that’s gonna be my new #1.
  2. Favorite musical artist of 2017? System of A Down—I’m not sure why, but I reconnected with their stuff in a big way this year.
  3. What song did you hit “repeat” on the most in 2017?“New York” by St. Vincent (“Feel It Still” by Portugal The Man is a close runner-up)
  4. Favorite book and/or comic you read in 2017? TWD Issue #167 because it’s the last appearance of one of my favorite characters. As for novels, one of my favorite books, Jack London’s Call of the Wild, was added back to our curriculum and I really enjoyed teaching it again.
  5. Favorite TV show you binge watched in 2017? Legion S1, Stranger Things 2 was a close second.
  6. Favorite TV show you watched week to week in 2017? Game of Thrones S7
  7. Favorite animated series of 2017? Rick & Morty (Technically it’s my favorite show I binged because I did so with S1 & S2, and also my favorite show I watched week to week, which was S3.)
  8. Favorite animated film of 2017? The Lego Batman Movie
  9. Favorite documentary of 2017? This was a tough one. Batman & Bill on Hulu gets the top spot because I’m such a huge Batman fan, but Chasing Coral on Netflix was equally superb.
  10. Favorite comedy film of 2017? The Disaster Artist, hands down. No contest.
  11. Favorite action and/or sci-fi film of 2017? Thor: Ragnarok for action and Blade Runner 2049 for sci-fi.
  12. Favorite drama and/or romance film of 2017? Three Billboards… for best drama (although I really struggled with not putting Logan here) and even though it was a 2016 film, I didn’t see La La Land until 2017, and it was probably the only romance film I saw all year, but I did see it twice
  13. Favorite video game of 2017? I’m not a big gamer, so forgive me for being late to the party with Skyrim. I discovered it this summer with my nephew and love it.
  14. Favorite YouTube channel in 2017? Hot Ones with Sean Evans. Best interview show going. Even if I don’t know or particularly care about the people being interviewed, watching them deal with extremely hot chicken wings is endlessly entertaining.
  15. What’s your favorite/most used app on your smartphone in 2017? Facebook. Sad but true. Like most people, Mark’s got me firmly by the Zuckerbergs.
  16. Who is the one entertainer that died in 2017 you’d bring back? (There can be only one!) Adam West. He’s the first Batman I ever knew, and still one of the best.
  17. What was your 2017 like as depicted in emojis or a single .gif? 2b9YCmd.gif

What was your favorite live event (concert, sporting event, play, festival, convention, etc.) you attended in 2017?

NZA and I had a bang up December! It'd have to be a three way tie for me between seeing Book of Mormon, Phil Collins and Bill Burr!

Favorite musical artist of 2017?

No one current. Deepened my love for Simon and Garfunkel and Tom Petty, though.

What song did you hit “repeat” on the most in 2017?

Scarborough Fair by S&G, and Dreams by Fleetwood Mac

Favorite book and/or comic you read in 2017?

Favorite TV show you watched week to week in 2017?

Broad City. And honestly, kinda loving the Will and Grace reboot!

I don't think I watched any this year. Ugh. Wanna finish up TMNT!!

Favorite animated film of 2017?

DEFINITELY Lego Batsy

Favorite documentary of 2017?

Nothing stood out as far as documentary features. I still love my true crime docuseries like Forensic Files and specials on Dateline, 20/20, etc. Also I'm kinda obsessed with Catfish.

Girls Trip and The Disaster Artist

Favorite action and/or sci-fi film of 2017?

Wonder Woman

Favorite video game of 2017?

I can't play modern games but I did get an SNES Classic and had fun playing old Mario and finally trying out Earthbound!

Favorite YouTube channel in 2017?

None. I'm not into YouTubers. I use it for music, workout videos and tutorials.

What’s your favorite/most used app on your smartphone in 2017?

Instagram

Who is the one entertainer that died in 2017 you’d bring back? (There can be only one!)

Tom Petty, no doubt. Selfishly, I'd want a chance to see him perform live!

@DonutellaNo lie, I'm jealous of y'all for seeing Phil Collins. (Please tell me he did all the hits.)

@The NZA I heard an interview with Kendrick Lamar recently and became more interested in him as an artist. I know some stuff from DAMN., but I started giving his older album (Good Kid, MAAD City) a listen and dig it.

Also, @Da Cap'n 2099 on point with that Rick&Morty.

hakus - you literally can't go wrong with k-dot, but each album has a different vibe. if you're interested i can point out highlights, even his first one (Section 80) got limited exposure but it was obvious years ago he was well above the rest of his crew.

Good Kid, MAAD city is a rare classic where (i think) you can enjoy individual tracks or the cohesive flow of the album's narrative.  TPAB is really a lot more out there (spoken word, afro-funk etc) but yeah, pop crossovers aside (hit or miss by nature) he's on another level.

@The NZAI listened to TPAB once when it first dropped, not even all the tracks the whole way through. I just couldn't be bothered with giving it a chance. There's just so much music out there, new stuff every day, and so little time. Now I'm easing into GK,MC and Damn but I'll have to give TPAB another try. It's just refreshing to hear some new hip-hop that doesn't have rhymes that make me cringe or roll my eyes. You know you're getting old when "old school" hip-hop is now stuff that dropped in 2002. smh
