Lorelei
I recently started playing soccer again back in February and I've lost about 13kg (28lbs)!! I was wondering if anyone here also plays a sport regularly? It's always worth checking if you can find a league at your level, basketball, baseball - whatever you play. I managed to find one for lads that are coming off the back of major injuries and want to get into playing again. It's been fantastic for both my physical fitness and mental health. I find team sports are far superior compared to just going for a jog on your own.
alive she cried
I used to love playing indoor soccer with my brothers and a few neighbours, but I tore my achilles tendon a few years back and I still feel it twinge from time to time when I stretch. I also have a bad knee due to my obesity. I've lost three stone in the last year though, and hope to get down to a healthy weight in the next year, so I'm hopeful to ease back in to it sometime next over the next 12 months or so. I completely agree with you though that it's so much more fun than solo jogging. Edited October 28, 2019 by alive she cried

I completely agree with you though that it's so much more fun than solo jogging. I fractured the ankle that I use for soccer in three differenent places including dislocation. I've got got about 10 screws and a metal plate in there, and it'll still quite a bruised colour and swollen after 2 years. I'm still not great at striking the ball, but I feel some strength coming back to me, as it hurt just to make a touch with it before. Due to the lack of kicking strength, I moved from centre defence into a defensive midfielder role, and now it's just trying to calm my nerves and play my game when I'm under pressure - but I've been praised for my man marking and tackling at least. It's just been so positive to hear your team shout 'great tackle!' at you at that, having the enemy come up to you at the end and tell you you're a bastard, etc. I'm sure you can strengthen your achilles. At least you have a group of lads you can play with. Maybe try being a keeper if it's that bad? 2 hours ago, The NZA said: not formally, but i do my old boxing regiment at least once a week - need to hit batting cages up more often too researching a lot of this stuff now due to a potential career change as well Never been a fan of people hitting me, let alone for sport. Fair play to you mate. You can still do quite well at boxing past in your 40s as well which is always nice. Or you could just become a football hooligan when the super bowl's on. the division of joy
I play basketball with work colleagues regularly. Its a good reminder of how woefully out of shape I am but how I'm progressing with each week.
Visitant
I used to fence, now I just occasionally go to a range to shoot my bow. I don't hunt, it's more of a zen thing for me.
Donatella
I’d love to find an adult kickball league to get into. Or maybe even softball but I don’t think I’m good enough for that!

That’s dodgeball, though. I wouldn’t even attempt that.

Jumbie
Used to play cricket a lot, but stopped once my eyes got bad. I tried my had at hurling when I visited Ireland. Seemed like a fun game but it really demands depth perception since you make a lot of baseball style shots and being blind in one eye, that's tough for me. Strangely, I've started to get into sports shooting this year despite having bad eyes. Steel Challenge and USPSA stuff. Shooting is a very 2D sport in many respects, so doesn't demand as much from the eyes as you might think and the rest is running around and body positioning, I'm really glad I found a club to be part of because since I stopped playing things like tennis, cricket or even frisbee so much, I'd lost the sense of camaraderie and competition that sports bring and it was an instant boost for my mental health to get it back.
FireDownBelow
I'm right there with you, Nick. I don't have a lot of skill, but I could enjoy some kickball. Also...ermm...as a kid we used to play smear the queer...I realize that's a terrible appellation, and I would personally call it something else these days, but for the sake of explanation I choose to use the colloquialism. Any rate, I'd be down to play some more of that too.

Dodge ball is just two teams throwing balls at each other. Kickball is set up more like a baseball game, with bases you have to run around to earn points. Instead of hitting a ball with a bat, you’re kicking a ball that’s rolled at you. But they do throw the ball at you to get you “out,” so the five Ds might help there! Choose Life
Soccer. Used to play two to three times a week. Try to get at least one game a week in these days. I'd like to play tennis more, but hard to find a playing partner during winter months.
The NZA
meant to say on boxing: I've not had the opportunity to spar in years, but so much of the regiment - jump rope, road work, running, heavy bag/speed bag etc can be done largely solo, and they're great cardio too also I've been playing tennis myself lately and let me tell you: i am a natural
