The NZA Posted January 2 Posted January 2 more like absolute unit amirite i wasn't super hyped on another snyder go at bats, but this book has been a blast. the entire hook of the absolute books seems to be taking away the core fundamental pieces that make these characters, and seeing what becomes of them: bats is swole, sure, but he's also working class and broke. supes didn't have the kents, and he's just social justice warrior-ing his way through late stage capitalism, which, you know? great take! finally, without giving away too much: diana is denied the amazons, and raised in hell. we're about 3 or so issues into each book, and there's not been a weak one here yet. again, i usually like a few arcs to complete before speaking on a book's quality/seeing how it holds up, but wanted folks to know that all 3 of this line so far have been a treat, and absolutely subvert your expectations of how DC universe works. thematically, this is a really interesting excercise to do with the writing talent they've pulled; rather than strip down for parts a la the older ultimate line, let's see who these characters are without their background/grounding. doesn't hurt that gotham more resembles the version from the penguin/some nolan vibes etc. check these out!
