Rumors for the Future

Recommended Posts

Yeah, I heard the rumor that they increased her "bust size", too. J-Lo's people have denied that one (though they admitted to shrinking her ass). I haven't seen the before and afters, myself, so I dunno. Wouldn't shock me either way.

Just a few, today.

Cursed - It's been rumored that the Wes Craven/Kevin Williamson werewolf project has been shut down, mid-production, after Mirimax didn't like what they saw in the dailies. A slight ammendment, however. Moviehole reports that a source close to the film "tells us this morning that a new ending does have to be filmed, but it’s all for the better. “A new endings shown up on paper (or at least an outline of one) that makes sense and pays off”, we’re informed. The original just didn’t fit apparently, and Craven wants the entire movie to play out as cool as the first three quarters apparently is".

Speed 3 - Rumor has it that a script for a third Speed movie has been making the rounds for the last year or so. Fox is interested and buying it, but only if they can make a movie for cheaper than the first one (under 30 mil). No script details have been released, but it's been said that the plot revolves around an armored car and a police escort (yawn). None of the original cast is expected to return, and this is meant to be a sequel in name and theme only (ala that Dirty Dancing sequel they're making).

Aliens Vs. Predator - Apparently the movie has reached pre-production stages and design is underway. The aliens are said to be the ones from Camerons "Aliens", with the ridged foreheads, not the smooth-headed ones from the other three chapters.

Big Trouble in Little China 2 - I take back the rumor I post last time. It seems like a sequel to BTILC is not getting made. Not yet, anyway. At a recent screening of the original BTILC, Carpenter said that he'd be up for a sequel if there was going to be one, but he doesn't think any studios out there would actually give him money to do it.

Dragonball Z - It's been reported that Bill Goldberg is signed on to play a character called "Nappa" in a live-action movies version of Dragonball Z. Treat this rumor with kid gloves, sounds suspicious.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - Sorry, Jax, there was a picture of Gary Oldman in his Sirius Black costume, but Warner Bros went and wiped any trace of it from the internet, as far as I can find. It's said to be a bad representation, anyway, with only half the makeup and such. But you may be able to find it somewhere if you want to look.

Sudden Death 2 - A sequel to a Jean Claude Van-Damme movie that no one remembers. This one's plot: Darren McCord [Jean-Claude] tries to save his oldest son from mercenaries who take over a football stadium. This is one of the worst cases of Die Hard Syndrome I've ever heard of.

A few more quickies...one about dvd release...

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers extended DVD - It's been announced that, yes, New Line will be releasing an extended version of The Two Towers on November 11th. Just like their extended version of Fellowship, this one will be four discs, the first two entirely devoted to the movie which has over 40 minutes (holy shit!) of cut footage edited back in with new musice, sound effects, and completed digital effects. Also on those two discs are four separate commentary tracks which, together, basically cover all the major cast and crew. Disc 3 is devoted to featurettes on adapting the book into the movie, and disc 4 has movie-making featurettes (including break-downs of sword fights, digital effects, etc etc). I have the extended version of Fellowship, and I must say, if you're willing to devote a lotta time to watching a dvd, it's worth the buy. Extra features, one helluva good cut of the movie, and even easter eggs (they even added the spoof from the MTV movie awards, with Jack Black getting the One Ring as a cock piercing...damn that's funny).

Hellboy - Wizard gave out teaser posters for the live-action Hellboy movie at the San Diego comicon. Admittedly, I was concerned about this movie at first (especially when their first choice for the role was Vin Diesel) and I wasn't sure if they'd be able to capture the distinct look of the characters in a live-action movie. But from this poster, it looks like they're on the right track.

Been meanin to read Hellboy, as well. Any more word on a Ghostbusters 3 SB?

Oh, side note, unrelated (sorry) on Gigli, the J-Lo & B-Fleck bomb:

The word on the new Jennifer Lopez/Ben Affleck flick "Gigli" is that it's a "total disaster." Affleck is said to be utterly miscast as the hitman who seduces the lesbian assassin played by Lopez. Lopez herself is said to be "just awful." But the major complaint is the lack of on-screen chemistry between the two off-screen squeezes, part of which is being blamed on suck-o dialogue. In one laughably unsteamy scene, Lopez lies on a bed with her legs spread and announces, "It's turkey time!" "What?" asks Affleck. She replies with what one critic has called "possibly the worst line ever said in a movie":

"Come on, gobble, gobble."

Last I heard of Ghostbusters 3 was that Dan Akroyd wanted to do one that involved "hell coming to New York" and the original Ghostbusters would train a new "hipper" team (with people like Will Smith in it). And of course there would be some age-based rivalry an' all that. Classic cliche stuff, but with Akroyd's writing, it coulda been funny. The studio balked at the budget he wanted, though, saying that a third Ghostbusters movie wouldn't make enough money to justify so much money. That was a while back, though, and very much a rumor. I haven't heard anything since.

Nah, they'd at least get someone with decent comic talent. I'm thinkin' maybe...umm...Sean William Scott, Seth Green, Dave Chappelle, people like that. Those're just examples. C'mon, it's Ghostbusters. They're not gonna go for the gorgeous looking superstars (assuming the studio doesn't take over the production, anyway) they're gonna go for people who can actually be funny.

Anyway, update:

Batman - These're highly classified as rumors, but an insider in the Batman/Catwoman/Superman productions reports, "Everything's very quiet on the Batman, Superman, Catwoman front. There's been rumours that Catwoman isn't happening, but it definitely is. Everyone's signed. It's shooting in Canada in just over a month. It mightn't happen, BUT Michelle Pfeiffer is in talks to reprise her role as Selina Kyle - possibly outside of the leather costume - for Chris Nolan's Batman film. Nolan still wants to link the film to the others in the series it seems, but only the first couple - so word is he'd like to have Selina Kyle involved, albiet briefly, and possibly some other familiar faces. Was told the only reason Pfieffer didn't want to do another Bat flick- after Returns - was that she hated wearing the costume, so the deal this time might involve letting her reprise the role, but only as Selina, not as Catwoman."

Freddy vs. Jason 2 - Robert "Freddy" Englund spoke with "Bloody Disgusting" about the possibility of a Freddy Vs. Jason sequel, and the rumored prequel to the original Nightmare. "I had heard that him [Craven] and Heather [Langenkamp] had talked about it, whether they’d want Heather to play the mother or something, I don’t now. I had heard that there were ideas in treatment and in artwork. It would be more of a serial killer film that a monster film, since Freddy isn’t a monster yet. Obviously I'd be attracted to that idea, I have a soft spot in my heart for serial killers...I like that stuff, it intrigues me, the how to solve it, the Sherlock Holmes element of it. Also, I wouldn’t have to get into all of the make-up and it would be a chance to get into psychological work before he sort of became operatic, I’m always operating in a dream, and there’s a certain type of exaggeration to my performance since I’m in a dream, it’s a surrealistic and magical. But if I did the prequel, its pre-nightmare and I wouldn’t operate in the magical world. It would be more nuts and bolts psychological thriller. As for Freddy vs Jason, not that Im too old, I did all my own stunts in the water in the new one, when you see me flying through the sky in fire, you know. For me its so hard, so hard to get Freddy vs Jason going, you have to get into the fun of it, and the story telling. There’s a certain degree of difficulty doing another Freddy vs Jason. There certainly could be another Freddy movie or another Jason movie, or even hints that they are operating in the same area or country, but never say never, never say die!". Wes Craven, by the way, recently denied having any involvement in a Nightmare on Elm Street prequel.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire According to the Hollywood Reporter, director Mike Newell (Four Weddings and a Funeral, and the upcoming Mona Lisa Smile) may helm the fourth flick in the Harry Potter series. This is a little disappoint since previously Chris Columbus showed interest in directing another and had hoped to do the story as a two-parter - probably the only possible way to do a story that complex justice.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - First Michael Keaton. Then Christopher Walken. Now, according to Variety, Johnny Depp is also in the running to play the new Willy Wonka.

Animal House DVD - Animal House gets the special edition dvd treatment in a few weeks and it seems that director John Landis actually didn't approve of the picture quality that the dvd provided. He said, "(it) looked too good-the textiles and the skin on the actors look so unbelievably crisp. Animal House shouldn't look beautiful; it should have a funky look to it". So, Landis asked them to degrade the picture on the dvd a bit to give it a grainy look. Though he still believes it "still looks better than it has a right to look".

I think the guy doing Prisoner of Azkaban will do fine. After all, Colombus is still producing and Colombus has already set the stage for PoA with his work on SS and CoS. It's not exactly what I would call a no-brainer, but Colombus showed us what the final product should look like. But GoF is so much longer than the first three and it's going to set the precident for OotP and the rest of the books (which will undoubtly be longer still).

Very brief, today

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - For Jax. The first official article about the next Harry Potter flick. Also comes with the first official picture, though it's nothing spectacular. Still, it's an interesting read.

1967804.jpg

For the record, the three principle actors are all signed on for Goblet of Fire, as well. Hopefully they can make it through all seven without breaking the cast up much more.

Alexander - Rosario Dawson joins the cast of Oliver Stone's epic. She'll play Alexander's wife, Roxanne.

The Brother's Grimm - The first set picks are up online (I have no idea what the article says. I haven't even taken the time to figure out what language it is, yet) here. It's also been confirmed that Uma Thurman and Czech star Tomas Hanak have joined the cast, apparently taking over the roles that Nicole Kidman and (sadly) Robin Williams recently left.

The Incredibles - Though the cast hasn't officially been released, this seems to be quite a bit of it, from the rumors: Craig T Nelson as Mr. Incredible, Samuel L Jackson is his nemesis (a wink at Unbreakable, perhaps?), also in the cast somewhere are Holly Hunter, Wallace Shawn, and hey cool, is that Jason Lee? You can bet that John Ratzenberger will have a bit part in there somewhere, too. He's Pixar's lucky charm. On a slightly related note, Disney's David Stainton has announced that he has teams working on cg versions of both classic fairy tales "Rapunzel" and "The Snow Queen". Disney is moving on two new cg films without Pixar. That may not be a good sign for the partnership that is still being negotiated.

Pulse - Miramax/Dimension has officially cancelled Wes Craven's latest project, Pulse. The film, it seems, would have been a remake of Kurosawa's "Kairo" (because Hollywood really needs yet another bad remake of a good Japanese horror film). Bob Weinstein says he cancelled the project because he thought it seemed much too similar to The Ring (who'd have thunk?). Wes Craven seemed very disappointed at the news, "We were all terribly excited about that film and we had the rug pulled out from under us. I thought it was a brilliant movie, it just gets under your skin. I think Kurosawa is an interesting director. The way the ghosts were used, it’s like nothing that’s ever been done before. I could see that movie in my head, it was really going to be scary and fun. It’s extremely frustrating to not be able to do it."

Harry Potter's magic bus

0,,2003350144,00.jpg

By GRANT ROLLINGS

ALL aboard for a sneaky glimpse of the star of the next Harry Potter movie — a giant purple bus.

The magical triple-decker, called the Knight Bus, provides emergency transport for our hero as he again battles the forces of evil in Harry Potter And The Prisoner of Azkaban.

The bus and conductor Stan Shunpike (Lee Ingleby) are willing to take stranded Harry to any destination — as long as it is not underwater.

0,,2003350139,00.jpg

That shouldn’t matter, because there’s not much chance of Potter film No3 sinking without trace.

Our amazing stills from the movie show Harry and pals Hermione and Ron adopting a different look as new director Alfonso Cuaron boots out the blazers for a more casual style.

Daniel Radcliffe, 14, who plays Harry, wears a trendy hooded top while Ron, alias 14-year-old actor Rupert Grint, swaps his uniform for a stripy jumper.

0,,2003350141,00.jpg

Meanwhile Emma Watson, 13, who plays Hermione, transforms herself from boffin to bruiser as she clashes with nasty Draco Malfoy.

The Prisoner of Azkaban, released next June, will see the arrival of several new British stars at Hogwarts.

Sir Michael Gambon takes over as Professor Albus Dumbledore from Richard Harris, who died last year.

0,,2003350137,00.jpg

Sir Michael, 62, will portray the headmaster as an old hippie. Hannibal star Gary Oldman takes on the role of evil Sirius Black — the prisoner of the title.

And Auf Wiedersehen Pet actor Timothy Spall and the Fast Show’s Paul Whitehouse also make debuts.

Mexican Cuaron was a surprise choice to take over from Chris Columbus, director of the first two films.

His last film, And Your Mother Too, was a tale of two teenage boys travelling with a sexy older woman that featured some graphic sex scenes.

"Hannibal star Gary Oldman"? He wasn't even credited in that! You'd think they could link him with a better movie...

Anyway, on that note - here's "Sir" Michael Gambon as Dumbledore.

harry2.jpg

And a scene from the end at the Shrieking Shack.

harry1.jpg

The lack of uniforms is new. If they're going to keep that through the whole movie I hope they at least take the time to explain the change.

Anyway, on to the news and rumors.

Spider-man 2 - No new news at the moment, but a new teaser poster has just been released, and it kicks ass if I do say so myself. Spider-man gets some've the best posters.

us-teaser-b-full.jpg

He-Man - IGN Filmforce talked to a source close to director John Woo about a new Masters of the Universe movie. "Our source confirmed that Woo is indeed very interested in the project but that was over a year ago. He-Man now seems relegated to the backburner until a suitable script comes along. Woo, we were told, still remains interested in the project. Woo is said to be drawn to He-Man because of its mythic elements and period setting. He also didn't strike our source as particularly concerned about 1987's Masters of the Universe (starring Dolph Lundgren)" Nor should he be. I wasn't particularly concerned, either. Woo!

American McGee's Oz - Most people probably know American McGee as being the man who designed the twisted version of Alice in Wonderland for a computer game. Now he's tackling the wonderful world of Oz in a full-length movie. According to IGN Filmforce, Jerry Bruckheimer/Disney has the rights and it is currently in development. It seems like a very dark and creepy piece for Disney to put their name on, so I'd expect it to be passed down to Touchstone, eventually.

Catwoman - "Allocine" reports that Lambert Wilson (the French guy in Reloaded) and Sharon Stone are tipped to play husband and wife in Catwoman. No details of the roles have been revealed.

Dukes of Hazzard - Now here's a sickeningly typical Hollywood move - take a story concept from somewhere else so you don't have to do much work (in this case, The Dukes of Hazzard), write a shitty script based on said concept (not that DoH ever had good scripts in the first place), cast the latest hot but forgotten-in-three-years faces in the lead roles (in this case Ashton Kutcher and Paul Walker), let loose and rake in lots of cash for some inexplicable reason.

Get Smart - Variety reports that Will Ferrell is tipped to play the title role of Maxwell Smart in the film version of the 60s TV series about a bumbling secret agent. After three Austin Powers and the not-much-of-a-success of Johnny English you'd think they'd realize that we're a little tired of Spy Spoofs. I loved Get Smart as a kid, but I don't think Will Ferrell is a good choice for the role. Who're they gonna get for Agent 99? Jennifer Love Hewitt? Yeah, watch it happen.

Lord of the Rings - Return of the King - Some unreleased footage snuck out yesterday, and was quickly pulled off the internet by New Line, but not before someone was able to get some nice screenshots. Here are some of the more interesting ones.

Is this the one that will finally win them that Oscar? You can find the rest of the screen shots here.

Shrek 2 - Today's update seems to just be full of visual aids. Here's a newly released preview pic for Shrek 2.

med_shrek2card.jpg

Robocop 4 - Paul Verhoeven talked to "Preview" magazine in Holland about his latest picture - Solace - a film about a psychic cop who tracks down a serial killer (yawn). But he also hinted at something much more interesting. "I'm thinking of bringing Robocop back. I think we will leave the 4 off, and start afresh. I enjoyed Page Flectcher's performance as the character in the recent mini-series, so ideally we'll have Page playing the role. I'd like to push the boundaries on this one. Take out all the comicbook style the previous robocop films had, and bring back the action, suspense, and really delve deeper into the characters origins. I'm toying with the idea of centerting the story around Murphy and his grown son, James. But that's all I want to spill at this point."

The Devil's Crew - Thanks, no doubt, to the success of Pirates of the Caribbean, MGM has become to first movie studio to jump on the pirate bandwagon with "The Devil's Crew" a movie about a Royal Navy officer sent on a suicide mission to find and assassinate Captain Edward "Blackbeard" Teach. Wouldn't be shocking if a lot of these started popping up. Remember all the World War II movies we got after Saving Private Ryan was a success?

The Crow 5 - Rumor is in the air that a fifth Crow movie is in the works (because filmmakers didn't notice the poor results of the last three). But they're tired of the same old formular, it seems. Guy gets killed, guy becomes Crow, guy gets revenge. But not this time! Now it's girl gets killed! Girl becomes Crow. Girl gets revenge! Fun! Exciting! But probably not nearly "original" enough to save this from being the same old story that no one's really been interested in seeing since the first one.

True Lies 2 - While talking to "Coming Soon" recently, Jamie Lee Curtis agree with what has already been said by James Cameron and Bill Paxton, and with what True Lies fans have been fearing. "'True Lies 2' will never get made. Never happen. You know why? I found out why. Because terrorists aren't funny anymore. They never were, but, it was distant enough from our psyche that we could make it funny. It'll never be funny again. I just think that that is over, that kind of humor is over." She then went on to explain that the movie was ready to go when 9/11 happened and hasn't been touched since (though there have been rumors to the contrary). So is it really possible that no sequel could happen? "Unless they come up with some sort of businessman, make it about Republican businessmen who are evil, and then, you know, then we can make it. Maybe they'll make it about...I know, an American presidency, with kind of, I know, and we'll have the guy not be so bright, oh, that's great!...No, instead I think if they do that, then they'll probably call and say they have another idea, but based on the original concede, it'll be that somehow a bad guy group is doing something bad to humanity and the world." Ahh, the even blunt Jamie Lee Curtis.

Well, that's it for today.

Very brief today.

Hellboy - The latest issue of Wizard has a few pics from the upcoming Hellboy movie. Here're some crappy scans of some. The makeup effects look fantastic. Hellboy looks like he was taken right out of the comic.

Dukes of Hazard - As if yesterday's news wasn't shitty enough, get this. According to "sources", Britney Spears is also up for a role in this flick.

Gigli - Gigli has been bestowed an honor that no other movie in cinematic history has managed to accomplish - a stunning 5% on RottenTomatoes.com. This makes Gigli the lowest rated movie on the extremely extensive site.

Superman - Latest rumors say that Warner Bros plans to begin shooting Superman in Sydney by the end of this year, however since they have yet to make a single casting or director announcement, I wouldn't count on it.

Didn't they do this already with "The Next Karate Kid?" Oh wait, my mistake, that was the 4th in the series, not the 5th! This is even worse!

And I don't know what Alfonso has played with the Harry Potter wardrobe, but I'd hate to see my favorite book in the series be made in to a movie I couldn't enjoy just becaus ethe wardrobe was bugging me the whole time. But I'll remain confident that JK Rowling wouldn't let this happen unless it made some kind of sense.

I'm not one to defend Gigli, but 5% isn't the worse Rottentomato score. Unless I'm wrong, this movie has gotten the lowest rating. As well as this one.

You're right, Jax. The article I got that from just said it got the lowest rating on RottenTomatoes.com. Which must've been the 0% it had earlier today before the one decent review was posted this afternoon. Either way, though, it's pretty bad.

Updates

Riddick - The sequel to the cult hit Pitch Black is being filmed in Vancouver as I type this, and the press were invited onto the set...which means the little people like you and me can get some info about the movie. The plot takes place 5 years after the original. Vin Diesel and Keith David are the only returning actors though the character of the young girl "Jack" is returning, but recast with Alexa Davalos. The film is part of a trilogy (Pitch Black is the equivalent of "The Hobbit") however they're only shooting the first one at present and are aiming to be stand alone rather than a 'Reloaded' or 'Rings' cliffhanger-type deal. They are at present halfway through the 77-day shoot, the sets are huge (making MIB2 and "Planet of the Apes" seem small in comparison) and the tone has "made a conscious decision to move away from 'horror film' and into 'science fiction epic'". Riddick hits cinemas June 2004. Thanks to Dark Horizons for this info.

Ghost Rider - Things may finally be moving on the movie adaption of Ghost Rider. Apparently the production has picked up a director (Mark Steven Johnson, of Daredevil fame) who is halfway through his rewrite of the script. Nicolas Cage is still determined as ever to play the role, but he has two other projects currently on his resume, so if he ever does get to ride the bike, it may not be for a while.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - Alfonso Cuaron recently confirmed to EW that he won't be directing the fourth HP film. "It was always only "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" for me. I never thought [seriously] about continuing."

Scary Movie 3 - The trailer is out for the third film in the Scary Movie line, and...it actually looks funny, I didn't think it was possible! Take a look, here.

Intolerable Cruelty - The trailer is also out for the new Coen Brothers flick, and it looks fantastic. Aaaaand you can check it out here.

Star Wars: Episode III - C-3PO himself, Anthony Daniels, has said that his last day of ever shooting on a Star Wars film will be the 12th of August. In a related topic, Droid Unit Supervisor (what a title) Don Bies confirmed that R2-D2 will be mostly digital this time around. Which begs the questiong.....why?!
