yay i can always count on you

So hyped that its back.

i cant beleive i fell for yet another one of Tommy's dream sequences, for a bit. Im guessing the feds on Tommy's ass is gonna be the big threat for the season? i could be wrong, they handle shit quickly sometimes in this show too.

im thinking youre right about the finale, too. we'll see. this is the show that does backflips on waterskis and says "fuck your sharks".

I love that Peter Tolan is playing the Fire Chief no one likes, its so accurate its sad.

Wow....so, this season's been doing some damn-near shark-flying at this point.

Tommy got his family back, but it coudlnt be more fucked. I dont even know how to take his wife/ex seriously anymore, she's becoming more and more of a joke. Its sad when Sheila looks more like the stable one.

im kind of wondering if i was supposed to be in the dark about whether Sheila was live or not for like the first quarter of the season...anyway, the recent episodes felt kind of loose/all over the place for me, but the last one was a step back up, i thought: the opening vision with Tommy's cousin and brother, the whole thing, showing just how dark its gotten for him, that was really great; for a show that adores dream sequences the way it does, that was one of my favorites i think.

Still one of my favorite shows, even if you gotta wonder who's left to bump off sometimes. I like that they keep you guessing...

but im still not over the Chief

. Cant wait to see what they got in mind for the rest of the season, i think were halfway through now.

shit, i still gotta pickup season 3 sometime.

I did in season 3, there's parts here where its clearly not a jump, or even a hover. Its flight.

things'll kinda make sense in the structure of the show, but you know its crazy when the show has its main characters in front of a psychiatrist and kinda parodies itself about how much shit it's thrown at them so far.

right, so season 4 ended on a decent note but across the board, lacked direction. the fact they took this long to retool the show (shit, my last post was from that far back? i guess LL was right) was, to me, a good thing. Found the shorts/promos so far:

lookin' good. now i just gotta figure out which webisode was for this season.

Those were awesome! Last season was definitely weak compared to S1 & S2. And it looks like there'll be 22 episodes this season. The previous seasons were only 12/13 episodes long.

...hows it been so far?

episode 1 was fantastic. heavy on the comedy and much less soap opera drama type shit. haven't seen all of episode 2 yet, i've got the torrent though to watch it tonight.

cant believe nobody's on about this (except me to LL & sen); i think this is, so far, the finest season yet. i hope they get an award for this.

after the directionless mess that was season 4, it seems like that hiatus was time well spent - all that retooling has them not only revisiting/expanding on the original "seeing the dead" thing as more than just a gimmick, but also doing something theyd not done in a while: character building. the last episode shows how far Mikey the probie's come, how low Sean's getting, and more importantly, the darker, emptier side of Tommy.

Since season 1, we've gotten that Gavin's an asshole who's an awesome firefighter. We've also gotten that some part of that, experience and good instincts aside, stem from his latent survivor's guilt/intending to die. I mean, season 1 itself was the downward spiral, season 2 was watching him rebuild from the ground up, just to lose everything in its finale. 3 started losing its way- things were done for shock value & such that started to feel cliche; by 4, it was almost parody. When you're advancing the plot mainly by bumping off your cast - in some way that even continuity/the characters dont seem to respond to - you're fucking up.

But (i think it was episode 8 or so, "Iceman") the dimly-lit barroom scene with Tommy showed a character reveal that was a bigger payoff than most of the season finale shocks combined. I'm a fan of Leary, but im back on John Stewart's notion that this has gotta be William Dafoe standing in for him in these scenes.

What's also great is that it feels like they're again finding their footing between dark comedy and drama. Seriously, there's only 2 episodes left to go (sadly) but this DVD's so bought.

There's only 11 episodes this season? I thought I read somewhere online they were doing like 20 or something this season, no?

Anyway, episode 8 was fantastic. I still need to watch this week's episode (#9). I also thought episode 7, which basically explained why they hadn't even mentioned Tommy's youngest daughter for the first 6 episodes, was great. This season has surpassed S4 so far in my opinion and I like the ongoing subplots w/ minor characters like Lou & Frenchie, Franco's conspiracy theories, Gherity's health, Sheila's therapy, & Sheila's son becoming a firemen. The whole bar thing was a bit meh though and ditto for the Black Sean Collen thing--which seemed like one big excuse to set up that Tommy's lil' girl is a freak in bed.

i could be wrong, just going on what TV.com has for episode summary. i hope you're right.

yeah, some of those are clearly for comedic value (coleen/black sean), the bar's initial stages etc. but tell me that scene im talking about

with tommy taking a drink in the bar and talking with his family wasnt powerful shit.

Franco's 9-11 thing, its odd to only be seeing it now but its interesting that they wrote it in. Tolan & Leary have both said some firehouse events/plots come from actual FDNY tales, i was wondering if the subsequent fight was one of em. Also, the new Chief (the one pushing Franco to box, says he has to be an asshole now) is another carry-over from The Job, if im not mistaken, but im really liking him so far.

Lemme know what you think of this week's episode, its more of Sheila's son and then her, as well as other figures from Tomm's life, ends on a foretelling note.

I just watched the last 3 episodes (13, 14, & 15) and laughed out loud more than probably all of S4...ok, so that's a slight exaggeration, but this show is really hitting its stride. I'm loving the subplots more than Tommy's BS w/ Shelia and the (ex)wifey though. Gherity's

cancer episodes and coma musical numbers

were pure comedy gold! Teddy and Maggie and their VA Hospital hijinks, Rico and his new gal, Lou and Frenchie & hooker gal (which I so say will end baaaaaadly), new probie, Black Sean and Tommy's crazy daughter, and Needles struggling to gain respect in the house while remaining true to his friends are all hilarious stuff.

Best scene of the series so far is when Gherity describes how beautiful he thought the sky looked after

surviving his cancer

and he says to the guys, "It was like looking at a big naked picture of Jessica Alba." The guys' immediate reaction of complete understanding was equally hilarious.

says wiki:

On June 16, 2009, the Los Angeles Times website confirmed Rescue Me will return in 2010 for a sixth season due to increased ratings. The August 28, 2009 TV Guide reported that Season 6 will return with 10 Episodes and Season 7 (2011) will have 9 Episodes culminating with the series finale on or around the 10th Anniversary of 9/11. It has also been revealed that Season 6 will premiere on Tuesday, June 29th at 10pm. The new Season 6 trailer was shown Tuesday, May 11th during FX's airing of Justified.

this is great news; honestly, it cant be said enough that last season was 10x better than the 2 before it, as it actually seemed to have direction most of the time...kinda drifted by the end, but it was a long season.

the decision for 2 more short ones & then tying it up sounds like a smart one to me, id really rather not see it lose focus again. cant wait.
