The NZA
speaking of Raekwon, there's recent talk that Shaolin vs Wu-Tang - the alleged RZA-less Wu album- might still be on, and it's got Rae's name on it. at first i didn't know what to make of this - again, Chef's good but he's not among my favorites...but upon reflection, this actually might work out good. 1) OB4CL2 is still the best Wu group effort in a while, certainly better than 8 Diagrams and id even say Wu-Massacre. 2) Rae's one of the only members who's really been trying these last few years, when i look at it - take Ghostface. He's been bitching forever that why isn't he/his sales mainstream, etc, so he puts out stuff "for the ladies" like Ghostdini and supposedly his next one - Fishscale & Big Doe Rehab were both great, both didn't sell. dudes on another community were putting some of this on him having the same affliction as Nas - practically every producer in the game wants to work with them, but they stick with the same tired-ass production, so their efforts go unnoticed by the mainstream - like Common before Kanye, for example. Meanwhile, here's who Rae worked with on Linx 2: besides the usual Mathematics & some RZA joints, he had J Dilla (god-tier), Dr. Dre. Erick Sermon, Pete Rock, Marley Marl, The Alchemist, Scram Jones & several others. meanwhile, Ghost hasn't fucked with anyone you've heard of since 2006 (MF DOOM, Pete Rock, Dilla, Just Blaze + others on Fishscale, hence its awesomeness). Rae's touring like crazy (where most artists make their $), and working with Kanye & others right now on his next album, from his twitter (just put out a single with Justin Bieber too...yeah, i know). says wiki: Now planned for a September, 2010 release, Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang will be Raekwon's fifth solo album, and is set to feature fellow Clansmen Method Man, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck and GZA, as well as Black Thought from The Roots. The album will still not feature RZA, as a statement that the Clan can stand majority of the producer when necessary.[/url] Recently Scoop Deville was a confirmed producer on the project as well as having Nas & Eminem as possible guests. here goes:
The NZA
aw, shit, son - sorry i missed this.

Yuen Woo Ping lifetime achievement award to be presented by RZA Published on September 22nd, 2010 by Tim League As every student of kung fu films knows, there are masters and then there are the Grandmasters. When we first began contemplating awarding the Fantastic Fest Lifetime Achievement Sword to Master Yuen Woo Ping we wanted to be sure we could secure a presenter equal to the occasion. Our first thought was RZA, but knowing how busy he is, we didn't think we had a chance. As he is gearing up for his directorial debut THE MAN WITH THE IRON FIST with the help of co-producer Eli Roth, the demands on his time are huge. But sure enough, the mention of the great man's name was all it took. Rza's response was not just "yes" but "hell yes!" Not only did RZA and Master Yuen work together on the KILL BILL movies, RZA has been a longtime student and admirer of such old-school Yuen Woo Ping classics as DRUNKEN MASTER and THE BUDDHIST FIST: "I have been a fan of Yuen Woo Ping since I was young. I had a chance to meet him on the set of KILL BILL along with his team. I have always admired him as a fan and once I met him I admired him as a man too. He has directed many of my favorite movies of all time and it will be a great honor to present him with such a prestigious award." – RZA Yuen Woo Ping is easily one of the most important filmmakers in the history of martial arts cinema. His breathtaking fight scenes have changed the way we look at hand to hand combat in films. No one does it better and he continues to innovate and stay on the cutting edge of the form. If you've been blown away by a fight scene in a movie over the course of the past 30 years, chances are Master Yuen choreographed it. Fantastic Fest is deeply honored to welcome RZA and Master Yuen Woo Ping to the festival this year. The Fantastic Fest Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented at the Paramount Theater in Austin on Saturday September 25 at 7pm. Fans will have the chance to see these two icons walk the red carpet together prior to the double-feature screenings of Yuen's new film TRUE LEGEND and his classic directorial debut SNAKE IN THE EAGLE'S SHADOW. A limited number of event tickets are available to the general public for this show. Get them here.

Mr. Hakujin
Loved the LS clip! I'm very slowly working my way through that show (about 5 eps into S1). And what's the update on the new Wu album w/ all the guest producers (Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang)? It's supposed to drop in 2011, right?

Mr. Hakujin
So this is a Rae Kwon solo joint and not an "official" Wu album then. Hmm, I guess it's not official Wu unless RZA produces. Anyway, Rae has some big shoes to fill after that monster album Ghostface Killah unleashed...
The NZA
i wouldn't say that; track listing shows almost everyone's on board (not enough GZA/deck/masta killa for my liking, granted) but Rae's last one, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 was pretty much a group effort as well. youre right that Rae/Ghost are gonna be on most of em - and some of those guest artists woudln't be on a full-on Wu effort - but this is as close as were gonna get until shit gets sorted, which this album might help manage. Wu Massacre last year was basically just 3 of em, so im willing to look at this as something bigger. and yeah, if i like it nearly as much as OB4CL2 and Apollo Kids, ill be happy. PS there's snippets all over the net right now, im not listening to em since the date's so close though.

The NZA
...welp, if you haven't heard, Martin Shkreli (dude who bought AIDS/etc meds & jacked the price up 5000%, until recently) bought Once Upon A Time In Shaolin, so given that he's basically a real-life bond villain, that one's staying in the vault. the good news? it wasn't even a real Wu-Tang album, just paid guest verses for a RZA protege producer, Cilvarings. still hyped for Wu solo efforts next year - Supreme Clientele 2, Crystal Meth, Blackout! 3 etc...but as what's possibly their final group effort, pretty disappointing all the same. TL;DR - C.R.E.A.M.
