Thrizzle Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 All of 'em I've sprang for thus far. Highly recommend the Man-Thing omnibus before it gets expensive. Quote
Newtype Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 I would but: While this item is available from other marketplace sellers on this page, it is not currently offered by Amazon.com because customers have told us there may be something wrong with our inventory of the item, the way we are shipping it, or the way it's described here. (Thanks for the tip!) We're working to fix the problem as quickly as possible. Quote
the division of joy Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 1-90 of The Walking Dead. Quote
Jables Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 I still regret not buying that collector's 'One Volume' edition of Bone. Chances are decent they'll do another HC omni now that they're the done thing, but that thing was gorgeous. Gilded pages, nice leather binding, the whole bit. @Eammon- I think you're overtalking Walking Dead a little. It's a fucking soap opera in panels. And I've acknowledged the overlap between the two mediums for years, but Walking Dead really fucking rubs your nose in it, which is the same reason I don't do a lot of Indie books. Stories about humans being human aren't insightful or entertaining. They're just a sadder form of self-referencing that more people get because everyone's cunts. Upon reflection I thing I stopped addressing Eamonn directly there after the first period(like most girls? ). Eh-neeways... Quote

Thrizzle Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 (edited) I didn't, I just...wow. I'm thinking he didn't properly think it through. I'm not even going to list all the great movies about humans being humans, he's doing it right now in his head. Humans become porn stars, humans run savage burns on multiple hotels in Las Vegas, humans come up with elaborate schemes that end in murders. This absurd misconception that the bulk of comics that aren't published by any of the major arcana must be this slice-of-life shit is also pretty painful, but I'm used to that. FYI - Uncanny X-Men from 1975-1988 is twice the soap opera than any other comic that comes to mind. Edited November 22, 2012 by Thrizzle Quote
The NZA Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 new marvel volumes/# 1's so far All New X-Men (bendis + immomen) Captain America (rembrenerer + JRJR) X-Men Legacy (i forget) Incredible Hulk (waid + lenil yu) Thor: God of Thunder (aaron + ribic) Wolverine MAX (lol who cares) Fantastic Four (fraction + bagley) Quote
the division of joy Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Persepolis. Pretty damn fantastic and I don't think much more can be added to that. Moving on to Asterios Polyp next. Quote
the division of joy Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Moving on to Planetary and City of Glass now. Comics Quote
the division of joy Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 I'm enjoying it so far, but in the first few issues, I can see its kinda going out of its way to shoehorn science terms in where its not needed.. Quote
Thrizzle Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 It's always needed. Are you talking about the City of Glass comic adaptation? I thought I was the only person that read/owned/cared that it existed. It's odd that it's on your hit list. OHhhh, wait. Mazzucchelli did that. I see the connection. Anyway, good show. And PM me your mailing address. I'm adding fuel to this fire. Quote
the division of joy Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Aye, I am talking of that. I got it based on finding Asterios Polyp pretty incredible both in terms of content art work and use of font, I figured I'd check out what else Mazzucchelli's put his name to. Address is sent on. I hope you're not sending dong pictures. Quote
Thrizzle Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Spoiler: Nothing he's done is as good as Asterios, IMHO. The only things that are even in the same ballpark are some stuff he did for Zero Zero, which was a pretty awesome book anyway and definitely worth your time. Quote
the division of joy Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 I'll put it on my list. I promised myself to get to Preacher after Planetary and City of Glass. Quote
The NZA Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Daredevil: End of Days 3 and of course Hellboy: In Hell are the best ive read this week so far, looking forward to Hawkeye as ever (ya'll gonna have to catch up on that one). Amazing Spidey continues in its weird, 90s-ish direction...ill see where 700 goes but not sure past that. Invincible, X-Factor & Spawn on deck. Quote

FYI - Uncanny X-Men from 1975-1988 is twice the soap opera than any other comic that comes to mind. Oh I didn't mean to tar all indie comics with the same brush. I'm sure there are a few indie books that aren't Bone or Cerebus that aren't just navel-gazing loveletters to gen X, and no doubt a majority of big-publisher books churn out shit like that. All I'm getting at is that stories about interpersonal relationships with no window-dressing or fictional context are lazy and boring. Ghost World would have seen me put a gun in my mouth if it didn't have Thora Birch and Scajo. I appreciate that your indier-than-thou sensibilities are keening right now and you can't wait to express your vast comic knowledge all over your monitor & keyboard, but don't call me stupid for not buying into the sentimental bullshit that you have the opinion should be deemed suitable entertainment. Still, glad to be in your thoughts fellas. Quote
Thrizzle Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 And you have the opinion that you don't have the slightest clue what you're talking about. I don't think you're stupid, I think you're painfully, embarrassingly, CRINGingly ignorant. You doubled down with the last post. I'm seriously getting chills. "HERRRRP I SAW A MOVIE ONCE". I'm officially done recognizing the term "indie" in reference to me and my tastes too. I do not think that means what you think it means, and I don't like the venemous tone when it's dripping from your jowls. I don't give a shit how you percieve it if I mention something you've never heard of. I'm not gonna feel self conscious because someone's insecure, and I keep that sort of thing to a BARE minimum here anyway. In my world, the books I like aren't obscure. You and your ilk are fucking aliens to me and I only know what you've read by testing the waters. I refuse to feel like a pretentious dick for daring to exist. Those are your feelings and your baggage, don't project your shit on me. I'm just a guy who loves comics. Quote
The NZA Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 fuckin' comics man edit oh i see hondo's, so you dont wanna resize this one? well..it's a good choice Quote

Those are your feelings and your baggage, don't project your shit on me. I'm just a guy who loves comics. Actually you're the one with the opinions about who's right and wrong. I assumed it'd go without saying that this is all personal opinion-based ranting and I'm sure as shit not faulting your or the ten other people who read/produce the material you read. I'm faulting a particular kind of story. I even took the time to define that particular kind of story as opposed to simply shrugging and letting you carry on the misinterpetation. Fuck me, how about for an encore I say I don't like spanish reprints because I don't speak the language. Champion that fucking cause and tell me how wrong i am for finding a type/delivery of story inaccessible. all this could easily be averted by you twats reading the subtext which is me saying 'i'm no expert and this is just opinion but...'. Seriously. Whatta cunt. **DLC- Let me be clearer here from scratch: In my opinion which is based on a handful of Library borrows, movie adaptions and bumped material here, Slice-of-life personal books are lazy & poorly conceived, and again, not speaking for the medium but for my own interests, are complete drek as a result. One might go further to say that the reason people like things like this, as with any other medium and you know what? I'll throw you an example like The Office: All this is, is recycled dialogue from everyday situations that some people will love because personal resonance takes the place of entertainment value. Feel free to offer an alternative view if you disagree, but simply hurling abuse and impugning my opinions because I haven't done the homework/lived in the environment you had? That's just a cunt's game. I'd expect better from most here for that especially after being called on it myself enough. Edited December 9, 2012 by The JZA Quote
Thrizzle Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 NOPE! Aint getting off that easy. An opinion is something like "I do not care for that sort of thing". Saying a genre consists of bad writing and lazy creators, and then defining it with "recycled dialogue" is taking it beyond opinion and into the realm of refutable facts. If someone doesn't like, say, The Godfather. That's fine. They can say things like "I did not like that film, I do not even like that type of film. I hated every second I saw it. It's not for me. I would rather have my spleen salted and removed through my anus than have to sit through it again". No problem. But if they say "thats was a terribly directed and poorly written movie that only cunts would like, as are all movies involving organized crime" Well, now you're an ignorant asshole. also, have you SEEN The Office? If dialogue like Gervais' is normal to you, your life is more interesting than mine. And no one ever gets any of your sub-text. Mine was "I'm giving you so much shit because I think you're better than that". Quote
