Silent Bob Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 Only Harrison Ford has every given a geniunely good performance in Star Wars. One could also argue Alec Guinness. I'd say that compared to his other work, Guiness' performance wasn't that great. But a bad Alec Guiness performance is usually better than anyone else's best performance. I think Harrison Ford is the only one who came out unscathed because he truly realized what kind of movies they were making. I remember hearing the during the making of the first movie, Mark Hamill couldn't quite figure out how his character could get dunked underwater in the trash compacter and come out with dry hair in the scene following. Ford just took him aside and said "Kid...it ain't that kinda movie". I think most of the performance problems happen because most of the actors (and the fans, for that matter) think it is that kinda movie. That and Lucas really doesn't know what to do with actors anyway. I honestly don't understand why he doesn't just make animated movies.
Reverend Jax Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 All the actors always joked that the only direction Lucas would give is "Faster and more intense." He would say that after every cut until he got a performance he liked.
Silent Bob Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 Heh yeah. I heard they even made him a sign that said that so he wouldn't even have to say it anymore.
