so dante, if i decided to uninstall windows and kinda start anew, would this be a foolhardy move on my part, or would it restore my computer to its original snappy state? keep in mind i have all the time in the world, and all my personal files backed up and shit. my laptop's been kinda half-heartedly chuggin along, what with all the online games and lesbian porn my siblings delve into, it's been bogged down.

Many times, a reformat is definitely what you need. You have taken the necessary steps to perform one. Actually the main step, backing up your files. Also, make sure you have all the software to reinstall. Sometimes it just becomes a big issue with time and such. You have settings to worry about, like if you have an anti-virus or firewall program with specific security settings. If you feel confident in bringing the computer back to normalcy, I say go for it.

However, there are alternatives to consider. You can run Defragmenter, some Adware software, run a DiskCleanup operation, and manually go through your folders and delete whatever is unnecessary (or raunchy). This too takes time but you won't have to reapply any settings or reinstall any programs.

Both options are fine. I like to reformat usually when I get a new drive or when I upgrade my system. I try to reorganize my data whenever shit gets too hard to find.

DiskCleanup and Defragmenter are located in Accessories, under System Tools.

yeah i've done the defrag, system check, used like 5 different adware things... i kinda just want to clean up for shits and giggles. i'm going to be installing a new version of norton soon, plus with all the shit on my computer... unfortunately though i can't find the 2wire cd (for dsl) so i'm not going to reformat yet... otherwise i can't get online (very bad). also, i can't find the setup file for my bootleg copy of office 03... anybody got that? :yup:

Def: Ok, wait till you get those CDs then go for it. Sounds like last resort to me

Sarah: Whoa. Time to buy a new compy. If it is even about 6 years old, the box may be too old to upgrade. Might wanna look into Dell, or one of those guys

Control Panel>System (I wanna know the RAM and Speed (mHz) of your system)

and also whats in the device manager Tell me what it says for Motherboard and for Display Adapter

Or just take a screenshot of those and post them here.

psst...by "screenshot", he means:

1) go to the screens with the info he wants on them

2) hit "PrtScn" (or print screen) if your keyboard has it

3) open Paint

4) hit Cntrl + V at the same time (its a shortcut to "Paste" the image)

5) save the image, and upload it here, so he can mock you.

Hey any of you tech pookie heads know where to get a Motorola V180, v188 PC software? I just want to be able to upload some personal pics and mp3's but I gots no drivers.

Ah, I've had some experience with this. I myself have a motorola and I found they have this software available with a cable for linking to the computer. It's called Motorola Mobile Tools. However, I do not recommend this software.

I downloaded it illegally. When I connected it to my phone with a cable I had that fit the phone, it turned my phone to shit. I couldn't make any calls. It was like it erased the identity of the phone and turned it into a child's toy: Buttons that make sound-y but no call-y. On top of that, I couldn't install shit. Maybe I did it wrong, but I never took the chance again. I still have the zip file for it and if you want I can send it to you to use at your own risk.

So my question to you...You feelin' lucky punk?

  • 2 weeks later...

I think the RIAA got to them. But maybe just their overpopularity gave off huge alarms and the agencies came down on them. Shut down or be fined. Can you imagine retroactively paying for millions of copyrights? I wonder if that is how they fine you...I could be wrong.

In the meantime you can always still use mIRC or one of the sites we talk about in the BitTorrent thread.
