Looks like there is another one incoming, loved the first 2, the third I didn't play much. The fourth I heard blew, but hey, the fifth looks interesting.

From Gamespot:

Konami is developing Suikoden V for the PlayStation 2, according to the latest issue of Shonen Jump magazine. No release date has been set yet, but development seems to be going well, and the game will be playable at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show September 16-18.

Suikoden V takes place in the Falena Queendom, and like previous installments, the player will recruit 108 non-player characters on his or her voyage. The player's objective in Suikoden V will be to collect pieces of the "Star of Destiny," which are scattered throughout the game.

The player takes the role of the Falena Queendom's prince, who leads a peaceful life until he is caught in an incident, which begins his adventure. An illustration in the magazine shows the prince having silver hair and a slim physique, despite being a physical fighter with a three-section staff. The magazine also revealed two other characters: Ashtert Falenas, the ruler of the Falena Queendom, who has silver hair like her son, and Leion, a dark-haired female swordfighter who works as the prince's bodyguard.

You can see a 10 minute trailer on Gamespot. Looks alright, and hey VOICE, but I'm a little annoyed in that it looks like the main character is mute again. GAH why won't that cliche DIE?

because "enigmatic" is better than "gay-sounding".

Gonna check out the trailer soon, post pics as you find em....for those that dont know:

Suikoden I was the original PS RPG before FF VII, vasly underrated, though short. The game began the tradition of rebellions, 108 stars of destiny, building your castle via recruiting said 108 people, good music, mediocre graphics, and perhaps more than anything (for me), tragedy.

Suikoden II still stands as one of my favorite RPG's, due to its strong characterization (despite the # of players), and memorable plot. This game's still worth a lot on Ebay because its a classic.

Suikoden III, the first one for PS2, was fun, but for me, never escaped the shadow of II. While each chapter so far has connected via events happening in locales mentioned in the last game (I & II even featured shared characters....you cuold actually find the protagonist from part 1!), III tried a system of 3 different protagonists from each side of a war, uniting by fate, while the player chooses who is the "chosen one".

Again, it was good (and way long), but i actually enjoy the manga more than the game.

Ive yet to play IV. Common compliants are about its short gameplay, method of travel (apparently, a lotta time at sea), and less inspired plot. I wont speak on it till i finally play it.

Regardless, most times, reviews are lukewarm, calling the next installment "more of the same", but for me, that's a high mark, because i love this series' engine. Cant wait to hear more about V.

Looking back, Newt wasnt far off. Still opt for 2 but this one came close.

Conflicting news about Suikoden VI has been cropping up; first its supposed to be PSP, then a few places say Wii, and the latest ive read was that its coming to the DS. We can only imagine this year's Tokyo Game Show should address this, but either way, i'm happy another chapter of one of my favorite RPG series is looking to make it to some format or another.

Suikoden V is probably one of the most under-rated RPG's of all time. I own all of them (yes original discs and all) and I have played through them all except for the first one. I love the 108 stars of destiny, and I especially love the whole base building aspect that V did so well. Though the early story could use a little more umph to draw the players in. Or maybe it just seemed to take forever because I was trying to get all the extra characters.

As a whole the entire series is under-rated, but the first two entries on the ps2 are sort of hard entries to get into unless you are familiar with the series. 3 was good, just along side games like FFX and Tales of the Abyss, it doesn't look as pretty or play quite as easily. Same with 4, plus the amount of random sea battles is so damn high I don't think many people would put up with it to see the story through.

So they are done with the series completely now? I mean other than PSP/Vita/DS releases? Though Suikoden Teirkreis was good in it's own right. It'd be nice to see a Suikoden game with a nice big budget so they can really focus on every character and other aspects of the game and make it like the greatest, longest, most amount of playabale characters ever! Though I think they should keep it like they do and only make a certain amount of people you recruit playable. Having 108 different characters to lvl up and look after when you only use 6 at a time would be a little much. Imagine that achievement/trophy "Leveled all Stars of Destiny to Max Level" +5G/Bronze Trophy

agreed! sold awful, likely after the bad buzz 4 got, sadly. so glad newt got me to revisit the series.

Or maybe it just seemed to take forever because I was trying to get all the extra characters.

god, this. i dont usually put 100 hours into Suikoden games! i wanna say i did with 3, but most of that time i was searching for some random star in a fucking forest.

Same with 4, plus the amount of random sea battles is so damn high I don't think many people would put up with it to see the story through.

yeah, 4 gets a lotta hate; i wont speak on that (or Tactics) cause i never played them, but ive been tempted to go back with say a gameshark code to lower the encounter rate or something, if possible.

So they are done with the series completely now? I mean other than PSP/Vita/DS releases? Though Suikoden Teirkreis was good in it's own right.

tragically, yes - i recall an interview with the creator saying he wanted to do another for the fans (years back) but in recent times, Konami came out and in so many words said they cant do RPGs anymore, i believe that team is gone.

also, i couldnt get past the DS one not being mainline series, it's interesting to hear it held up on its own though. did it have anything to do with the usual themes (horrors of war, etc)?

Imagine that achievement/trophy "Leveled all Stars of Destiny to Max Level" +5G/Bronze Trophy

...aw man, now you're just making me sad here. maybe that Vita one will get trophies, though?

Well honestly the only game I've gotten all the 108 Stars on was V. And that was with a walkthrough. I think my end-game totaled at like 160 hours or so. I just wanted to see a "real" ending for once.

And one day I would like to go back and play the series in Chronological order according to the lore of the series and not release dates. But that'll be in like 20 years when I have nothing better to do with my life and can take like a year off to do that.

As for Teirkris and Tactics, they are all just basically variations on a theme, well THE theme of war and politics and such. I never got more than 10 hours or so into Teirkreis though.

And while they may not go back to make a new Suikoden anytime soon, maybe we can look forward to them "re-imagining" the series like they have done with Ys and Dragonquest. Or re-releases of the old games redone to the newer standards of such and such generation. IE Not so many damned random battles. Because you KNOW one day we will get all those ps2 games we loved on a portable system. Sony is just itching for a system that will let them make money on games theyve already got.

Is that the qualification for failing as a gamer?

Damn.

No offence but before I knew much about the game i'd heard horror stories of everyone trying to get every character in the game like they were rare pokemon and I figured I didn't want to spend my time trying to collect all 101 dalmatians when I could just be enjoying a game.

For the record i've ever only played 30 minutes of legend of dragoon and Xenogears too.

You don't need to collect every character to enjoy/beat the game. You only go after all them for the perfect ending.

For the record i've ever only played 30 minutes of legend of dragoon and Xenogears too.

Legend of dragoon was trash and not playing Xenogears should get you ban from hondos.
