archangel
HunterCrow and I were going at this for a while. I believe that, with the possible exception of like two movies, Kurt Russell is perhaps one of the single worst actors to ever make a movie. HunterCrow thinks he's an 'OK' Actor. I'll leave it to him to state his oppinion, lest I taint it with common sense and taste >). What do you all think?
huntercrow
Kurt Russell is a fair actor. He hasn’t done anything amazing, but I don’t believe anyone would want to go bash their heads in just because they saw one of his movies. He’s made a lot of poor choices in his career and was inadequately directed. If anything he’s a B-list actor at best and works in supporting roles and leads in which almost any actor will fit. He’s just a standard leading man, nothing memorable, but he gets the story moving.
archangel
See, i don't think so. I believe that he was given the choices in his acting career due to his talent (or lack-thereof). I mean, when all you have to say is "well, at least he's no Steven Segal" there's a problem. The man is, at best, a bad actor.
Reverend Jax
I have to say, you can't judge an actor by his/her movies. Actors I love make crap movies, and actor I hate make great movies, the real question is, was that movie better or worse for their being in it? In that sense, Kurt ain't so bad. archangel
lol I'd reaaaaally disagree with you there, Jax lol I mean, the Escape movies were atrocious. MadMax was just as bad, but Gibson made those movies bearable. Yea, Oh My God, The Horror.
Reverend Jax
Guess I haven't seen those movies. As a matter o fact, all I can remember seeing with him is Vanilla Sky.
archangel
see, Hunter and I were talking about that. He seems to excell as a supporting actor. but whenever he leads.... Oh My God, the Horror
Silent Bob
C'mon, man, the Escape movies were supposed to be atrocious, you can't judge his acting on that. It's like basing your opinion of Jack Nicholson's talent on Mars Attacks! He's not the best out there, but there are far worse actors to pick on first. 'Sides, has no one here seen Dark Blue? He was really good in that.
The NZA
I thought id never forgive him for Soldier, but he was in that one overboard back in the day. Pliskin was fun sometimes, too. Who am i kidding? He was Bull in Backdraft. Backdraft.
huntercrow
See, Hunter and I were talking about that. He seems to excell as a supporting actor. but whenever he leads.... Oh My God, the Horror Dude I never agreed to that I aid whenever he leads it’s nothing amazing. He’s just an actor who fits a mold. For example any movie that is family oriented where there is your typical, runoff the mill, caring father, or father figure… where he is not the main focus you cast Kurt Russell. HE just gets the job done. And in movies like “Escape form New York” it’s a John Carpenter film. It’s supposed to be Pulp fiction camp. It a type of genre, but for some reason you can’t seem to grasp that. (Especially since I know your bias and don’t appreciate that kind of film. Of course you’re not going to like the actor who made it. For Pete’s sake you don’t even like the Evil Dead movies.) All I’m saying is that he’s and actor is of decent standard and he should incite such a gut horrible reaction in you… for crying out loud you like Hugh “Enjoys paying to fuck ugly bitches instead of Elizabeth Hurley” Grant. That motherfucker has no range at all. With the exception to the parts that are tailored for him by Richard Curtis, he plays all his characters the same blundering way. That my friend is the mark of a bad actor.
archangel
no no no, you misunderstood me. I guess I was vague about it. Huntercrow and I did speak about him as a supporting actor vs. a leading one. then i ended that with Oh My God, the Horror. And yes i will refer to the Escape films. Look at MadMax. Those were also atrocious films. Yet Gibson was still a good actor in them...that made them...well....still horrible, but bearable. And even in Mars Attacks Nicholson wasn't a bad actor. Hell, the only reason the movie was somewhat bearable was because it had some good actors in it. Still, I think Russell is bad.
MusicManiac
See Im prolly the only one that voted for Kurt in the great range. I enjoy Kurt Russell on film. I loved his role in the JC's remake of "The Thing". I thought he was also equally great in Dark Blue, Breakdown, Backdraft and Executive Decision. - I'm a Russell fan for sure. Anyone who is a hockey fan and saw "Miracle" about the 80 Olympic Hockey team saw Kurt portray legendary coach Herb Brooks, to which I thought he did flawlessy. I also think he was equally as impressive as Wyatt Earp in in Tombstone-one of my all time favorite modern day Westerns opposite Val Kilmer and the legendary Sam Elliot. Let's pick on crap actors and actresses like Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez instead ...
