Horror is my favorite genre, but it's been a few years since I've seen anything really unique (Cabin in the Woods was probably the last). Then earlier this year I watched It Follows. Like Cabin, it pays homage to the horror films that came before it but does it in a completely new and interesting way. I've been calling it an arthouse horror film (and like most artsy films, critics loved it more than the general public did). It's beautifully shot and really, really creepy.
It has potential to be a love it or hate it kinda movie (edited this to add I JUST saw Axel's comment about this movie! Haha!). But I'm standing by my recommendation. I'm just glad it's finally on DVD/streaming so people can see it! Been gushing about it for months!
Yeah, I found The Babadook to be overwrought and tiring, but I really dug It Follows. Its third act was kinda mushy and it's very obvious that the writer just kinda painted himself into a corner with the monster but I really liked it overall.
Yeah, just watched It Follows and it was better than I thought. Not perfect, but really felt different (as well as familiar). Just creepy as hell. I recommend it.
The Shining, Scream, Shallow Grave, A Nightmare On Elm Street {1984 original of course}, An American Werewolf In London, Frankenstein, The Fearless Vampire Killers, The Thing, The Wicker Man {1973 original of course}.
There are many more I just can't think of right now.
The director being a convicted pederass aside... I'm a fan of the first two movies and The Creeper (poor name usage now....) is one of the best modern monsters in some time, so I'm down for another one. My money won't be going toward it, but I'll watch it all the same.
It's more than just an unfortunate name, The Creeper is primarily interested in gents of a certain age and seems to have zero interest in older men or any women when they don't stand between him and his boymeat.

This looks promising. I just hope it's not another Babadook or It Follows. Those left very bad tastes in my mouth.
