Jumbie Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 YOu mean a name like Humean Torch based on a real philospher? Well, I can't improve on The Think. I'll see if I can find a Mr. Fantastic version of a real philospher though. ----------------------------------------- Of course Plato was a wrestler... He spent all his time at the Gymnasium. People who think he was called 'Broad shouldered' as an ironic joke by Socrates obviously don't know anything about philosophy past issue 3 of "Epicurus the Sage"
The NZA Posted September 21, 2006 Author Posted September 21, 2006 Awesome news Press Release EVIL TWIN COMICS IN DECEMBER: ACTION PHILOSOPHERS Vol. 2 TPB; Vol. 1 gets 2nd Printing BROOKLYN, NY (“Where the Weak Are Killed and Eaten”), September 21, 2006 — Evil Twin Comics is pleased to announce that due to the selling out of the first printing of the first trade paperback collection of their Xeric-winning, Ignatz-nominated non-fiction comic book series Action Philosophers, AP Giant-Size Thing Vol. 1 (ISBN #0-9778329-0-2), that the publisher would immediately go to second printing on the title, which will be offered in the October 2006 Diamond PREVIEWS catalog, along with the second TPB in the series, entitled, shockingly enough, Action Philosophers Giant-Size Thing Vol. 2, both of which see a December 2006 release. Many observers — especially those who write Evil Twin Comics’ press releases — believe that the overwhelming popularity of Action Philosophers heralds a tectonic shift in the comic book Direct Market, away from the fantastical adventures of colorfully-costumed adventurers, and toward the more rarified air of the alienation of the proletariat in capitalist society, existentialism, logical positivism, and the application of Aristotelian logic to medieval theology, all of which are covered, and mercilessly satirized with ca-ca and doo-doo jokes, in Action Philosophers Giant-Size Thing Volume 2. As Caleb Mozzocco writes on bamkapow.com, “In the world of philosophy comics, writer Fred Van Lente and artist Ryan Dunlavey are giants, towering above all of the other creators working in the genre. In fact, it's probably safe to say that their Action Philosophers series is the single best philosophy comic book on the shelves today.” ACTION PHILOSOPHERS GIANT-SIZE THING Vol. 2 (ISBN # 0-9778329-1-0) is a 96-page squarebound trade paperback detailing the lives and thoughts of history’s A-list brain trust in a hip and humorous fashion that proves that philosophy is not just the province of boring, tweed-enveloped history professors. Profiled in this book with Fred & Ryan’s award-winning combo of insightful graphical commentary and toilet humor are: • Karl Marx: The People’s Hero! • Niccolo Machiavelli: Master of, uh, Machiavellianism! • Isaac ben-Luria: Rabbi of the Mystic Arts! • Rene “I Think, Therefore I Am” Descartes! • The Existential Faux-Pas of Jean-Paul Sartre! • Jacques Derrida: The Deconstructonator! • Ludwig Wittgenstein: Bewitched by Language! • St. Thomas Aquinas: 300 lbs. of Theological Thaumaturgy! • Soren Kierkegaard stars in “Fear and Trembling in Copenhagen”! • A black-and-white TPB retailing for $8.95, the book solicits in the Evil Twin Comics section of the October 2006 PREVIEWS (for shipment in December). Learn more about Action Philosophers at the series’ web site, http://www.actionphilosophers.com hey, i just noticed, Fred Van Lente (series writer) did Amazing Fantasy # 7, and the upcoming Marvel Adventures Spider-Man # 21...i gotta suppor those efforts, that's pretty cool.
The NZA Posted October 9, 2006 Author Posted October 9, 2006 so...so i heard someone make AP! a Wiki page. Someone awesome. it might yet earn hondo's a shout-out in the AP collection! we'll see....first, lets see if that's there in the morning...
Senshik Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 Came out great IC! Proud of you! Oh man, this'll be great if they could put your name and hondos logo somewhere in the acknowledgements... Haha!
Reverend Jax Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 I took the liberty of edited the page by adding an exclamation mark at the end of all instances of 'Action Philosophers', but I can't change the title of the article. Sharp work otherwise.
The NZA Posted October 9, 2006 Author Posted October 9, 2006 If the main article had ! it might make it harder to find, and most articles written about it dont include that, 's why it was left off of the title....but it is accurate otherwise. Anyway, making these things isnt as bad as i thought itd be.
