archangel Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 Ok, it was a great show. They didn't fuck it up. (Although, I knew what medical condition the kid had once the DNA results came back...Discovery Health had a special on that a few weeks ago). It was still a GREAT episode though.
Reverend Jax Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 I only catch House occasionally. I saw the one with the model. It had my favorite line from the series (of the episodes I've watched): Father: This is some kind of joke! House: No, me calling you a homo would be a joke. See the difference? Yeah, those promos for a telepathic kid looked to me like it was going to be lame. House it's about magic, it's about medicine. Anyway, glad you said it wasn't lame (a hallucination is fine with me, so long as Professor Xavier doesn't show up at the hospital to recruit the kid).
The NZA Posted September 13, 2006 Author Posted September 13, 2006 id be fine with that; its the idea of xavier taking the kid's body cause pheonix ki...fuck it.
archangel Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 no, it ended up working out perfectly, and there was an actual, existing medical condition that explained all the symptoms. But damned if i wasn't scared.
MusicManiac Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 So... how do House fans feel about the "new" soapy approach to the show this year? Me? It's good, I mean it's alright, I'm not overly blown away but it ain't bad considering you had to spice here and there on this show given the content ran the risk of "rehash". I wish they would go back to House coming off the pills and working out, as the Season started off so well this year. Last night, David Morse ---> became a character on the show, and I have mixed feelings about him. He plays Michael Tritter, a bully detective, who notes that House isn’t getting away with his act and kicks his cane out from under him. House relents… slightly and gives him an anal thermometer, then leaves him in the room. Later in the show, House is pulled over by a policeman… Tritter. Tritter notes House was taking a pill while treating and finds reasonable suspicion to search him and finds his vicodin stash. He arrests him for possession of drugs. Also, who thinks Cuddy and House have a lil' naughty pj party going on, on the side?
archangel Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 Tritter ends up being the new Volger, really. Only he's worse. Damn, and of all people...I really thought Chase was going to bail on him...I never expected it to be who it was. 30 pieces of silver indeed.
Reverend Jax Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 I've been watching faithfully for a few months now. Last episode was good, I can wait to see House being told he's got to go to rehab.
archangel Posted November 29, 2006 Posted November 29, 2006 see, but that's the part that kinda gets me. This guy has had a hard on for House for, what? five episodes now? He fucked over Cuddy, Wilson, Cameron, Foreman, and Chase....not to mention arresting House, searching his home, and screwing him over bigtime...and he's going to be content over two months in Rehab?
La Lindsay Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 i'm changing my mind. scrubs is the best medical show that's ever aired. i had stopped watching it years ago for one reason or another so i've been rewatching the episodes lately and i forgot how funny that show was. it's better than house, er, and grey's anatomy put together...all shows that i really love too. but scrubs has everything you could ever want.
Reverend Jax Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 Yeah, I've been DVRing all the reruns on Comedy Central. Elliot: JD, I really don't want to do this! Can't we just go home and put on our pjs and watch Grey's Anatomy? JD: Oh, I do love that show. It's like they've been watching our lives and then just put it on TV. It's definitely between House and Scrubs, only because I find the Dr. House character hilarious that House has a chance.
La Lindsay Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 but scrubs has dr. cox, a cranky and sarcastic doctor way before house was even a glimmer in the eye of their creators. Also, here's a link to the first 5 seasons and first couple episodes of the 6th season of Scrubs.
Reverend Jax Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 Yeah, while all the character in the House show only are really interesting in the context of the Dr House character. Remove House and it's just a boring medical show. But Scrubs is an ensemble cast like few shows before it. JD, Truk, Elliot, Dr Cox, Dr Kelso, Carla, the Janitor (name?), Jordan...even the secondary characters (interns, the Todd, Ted in Legal) are great in their own right. Fleshing out my feelings on the matter, I've finally decided on my vote. Scrubs all the way.
Reverend Jax Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 Hey, I didn't vote until now. That wasn't for nothing. House put up a good fight. But in the end, Scrubs is just a stronger show.
archangel Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 traitor AND blasphemer! Not that I don't like Scrubs...but NOTHING is better than House, you hear?!
La Lindsay Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 i agree with jax in that house is basically a good show because of house. i could pretty much do without any of the other characters. they're boring.
Reverend Jax Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 That's not really true, their each interesting when they're interacting with House, or even when they talk about House. They allact as good foils for him in different way, but without him, they are not interesting. But Scrubs is the best live action scripted TV comedy in years.
Iambaytor Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Well I'm going to voice an unpopular opinion here (would you expect any less of me? ) I'm not crazy about house, why? Because House is the only reason I watch the show. "Wow, Dr. House is awesome, hey look the British guy and one of the bitchy brunettes are trying to be dramatic, woo Dr. House is such a badass! The black guy has to go collect specimens. Oh there goes house again, arguing with the other bitchy brunette, oh and he's fighting with that guy who gives him his meds. Oh look, Married With Children is on!" Grey's Anatomy and ER I'm in total agreement with SilentBob on. Now Scrubs I like, why? It's funny, it's creative, I can actually remember the character's names because the rest of the characters actually matter, and it doesn't suffer from the melodrama the others do, and it's not horribly formulaic. For those of you who will undoubtedly reply to this, "La la la, I'm not listening!"
Reverend Jax Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 I don't even think that Archangel would argue that House is formulaic, but it's still entertaining, and I still anticipate the new episodes. Just like you, it's all about House. Like most shows with a single strong character, I wonder if I'll still be interested during season six. Maybe, but probably not. The onyl reason I had any doubt was that House's sense of humor is darker than Scrubs', but Scrubs is more irreverent. I like dark and irreverent, but regardless of the type of humor, Scrubs just has more of it. I liek Comedy Central's promo. "If you thought all medical shows were the same, then you're" Cut to Dr Cox, singing scale "Wrong wrong wrong wrong...wrong wrong wrong wrong!"
archangel Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 ...but you guys are trying to compare a Dramatic Series to a Comedy. They're different. Still, House is the best. And Chase is Australian, Baytor, not British.
Reverend Jax Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 And Chase is Australian, Baytor, not British. He's got the Queen on his money. He's British. You walked right into that one, Arch. The are different, but you can say which is better. You can compare House to Scrubs. An example of something you can't compare would be House to Apple Pie and the Holland Tunnel.
La Lindsay Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 yes, house is not a comedy but it has comedy in it. and scrubs is a comedy but it has dramatic elements. house feels like law and order to me in that it's episodic and pretty much (like everyone else has been saying) formulaic: something weird happens to someone house is sarcastic interns try to figure out what could be wrong house is sarcastic house tries to figure out what is wrong he is way off he yells at the patient then he's sarcastic some more someone mentions how he is disabled and/or hooked on meds tons of tests are done based on house's way off theory. interns don't think house is right but they don't want the sarcasm train to pull into their station anymore patient gets a lot worse house does some random thing toward the end of the episode that makes him discover what's actually wrong (oh how stupid of me to have not noticed that this person cannot sweat...it's a good thing i took a dip in this fountain, like any normal human being would do after running a couple of miles) house is sarcastic house saves the day house is sarcastic...choo-choo..all aboard! not that this doesn't make for good television but it gets old. i like shows about people and this is more of a show about weird obscure illnesses and a doctor who tries to figure out what the weird obscure illness of the week is, all while being sarcastic. everything and everyone else seems incidental. scrubs on the other hand has sarcasm and heart. it's funny and it's sad and it's compelling. i was watching the 3rd or 4th episode of season 1 (the one where they have to deal with patients possibly dying under their care) and i was tearing up but i've never felt emotional watching house. it's ok to like house, i'm not saying that it's a bad show...i like it actually. but it's not as good as scrubs.
Reverend Jax Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 To quote myself from MM's Prime Time Emmy Award Winners Thread The show is great for the characters and the dialogue, but come on, it's the same plot every episode. 1) Person has strange symptons 2) no one can figure it out 3) One doctor seeks out House 4) House is busy with self-loathing and arrogantly dismisses patient 5) House is later interged by interacting combination of symptons 6) House diagnoses the patient 7) Hoes back to self-loathing 8) Patient doesn't respond to treatment. 9) House has meeting with other doctor and asks them for suggestions 10) House mocks young doctors if they don't diagnose the patient like he does 11) They try new treatment 12) Hoes back to self-loathing 13) Patient gets worse 14) House reconvenes with other doctors 15) House has an epiphany, realizes it's something totally rare, like leprosy combined with Pokemon-induced seizures. 16) House orders proper treatment in the nick of time 17) House still loathes self. Still, I did the whole thing focusing on hs self-loathing, adn you did it on his sarcasm. This show means different things to different people. I also think the dramatic heart-wrenching nature of Scrubs goes unrecognized.
archangel Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 shun the non believers! SHUN! Dear Fox, American Idol got old around the time the gay guy didn't win, when he should have.
