Ok, this kinda thing's been goin on over this corner for a while, i just wanted to centralize it:

It seems a number of us have similar music tastes, so to get someone into a particular band or album, let's pimp out a great track to download offa Kaza or WinMX.

For instance, Spiffytee wanted to get me into Chicane back in the day, so he had me download "Offshore" and "Salt Water", two badass tracks, the likes of which id like to hear more of.

I guess ill get the ball rollin: ive yet to finally pick up Bjork's new album, but the one song i have offa it's great; granted ive mentioned it here before but it's a start:

Bjork - Pagan Poetry.

No hype for it; if you like Bjork, its great, feels like...uh, like being inside one of those glass balls they have round christmas, where ya shake em up & they fill with snow?  Yeah, anyway, if you dont like Bjork you prolly suck, but there it is.

Cmon folks, pick a song or two ya really think some of us are missin out on & let us know.

*Warning: if your songs suck and you make too many bad calls, no one listens to ya, so make em good.

:D

hmm, see, i'd have to gauge everyone's tastes, for example, the preacher's divinity people dont much like tool (something I'd never thought I'd encounter).  Hmm, now I'd reccomend "oleander - Shrinking the blob"  Other good ones from them is "why I'm here" and their great cover of boys dont cry.

Dammit, started a thread about this, 'Recommended Pirating', but no-one visited except my PD friend KoS. Hope this gets people noticing.

Personally I have Audiogalaxy so pardon if you can't find my recommendations.

I'll start with my favourite cover song of all time. Its a rocked-up cover of a terrible pop-song and is just generally amazing,

China Drum - "Wuthering Heights" (originally Kate Bush)

I'll give Bjork a spin IC and Junk, I'm afraid I already heard that Oleander stuff.

Ha...'s no problem.  Actually, that poster comes from Modern Humorist.com, one of the funnier sites ive seen next to the Onion, so its a spoof.  But..Fuck Communism! My lighter says so.

Hey MLB dammit make a recommendation, somethin us Americans might go for, or at least some good techno track.

Want a fucked up techno song? Try 'Pizzaman' by The Cisco Kid. You'll no doubt listen to it scratching your head, thinking 'what the fuck am I listening to?'

I recommend Symphony X. It's a Metal/Classical/Progressive fusion band with a lightning-quick guitarist that rivals Malmsteen, Vai and Satriani (for those of you into 80's guitar virtuosos). Great stuff, sort of like Dream Theater at times, sort of like Metallica's S&M album at times, and sort like Bohemian Rhapsody at times (only more grandiose, if you can believe it).

I recommend 'Of Sins And Shadows', 'Evolution (The Grand Design)', 'A Fool's Paradise' and for a softer, kinder, gentler Symphony X, try 'Candlelight Fantasia' or 'The Communion And The Oracle', but honestly they have tones of great songs, so if you like those ones I recommended, try out more.

Fine! I downloaded Bjork's song. Not bad. I downloaded the Chine Drum song. I don't remmember the original version, so I can't compare the two. Not really my thing, but it's not bad for punk. I would have liked it in high school when I was more into punk I'm sure.

Now check out some Symphony X.

Bjork - loved the first two albums, wasn't too keen on the newer stuff but Jont was so I'll give PP a listen again tomorrow...is that the 'I love him' one?

Utah Saints - It's on the Wipeout Fusion soundtrack so if I swap back Devil May Cry with SoF I can check it out again. Big fan of Utah Saints earlier stuff!

China Drum - sounds cool, I'll try and DL it, 'WH' is pretty shit but Kate 'Madder than Bjork' Bush ain't that bad, a lot of her stuff was pretty alternative, try and DL 'Sat In Your Lap'.

The others - I'll try and get round to...

That's the lead singer of Nickelback, a band that gets bashed to hell and back now, but their second cd (new one is their third) is friggin great.  I guess they'll be my next reccomendation, I'd say get "Leader of men" by nickelback, that's good stuff, miles above the new cd.

Never too old for punk, thats what I reckon.

I'm gonna be one of those sad old people who tries hanging out with the kids at gigs. Be a bit like that NOFX song, "What's the matter with parents today?"

"I wish you'd stop smoking so much pot and hanging with my friends...."

Well, no one's metioned what they think of Symphony X, so I guess I'll move on to Catch 22. Great Ska band, best album is Keasbey Nights. Any cut off the album is great, but if I had to pick, I'd recommend:

Day In Day Out, Keasbey Nights (The Title Track), 9mm And A Three Piece Suit, Supernothing, As The Footsteps Die Out Forever, and Kristen She Don't Know I Exist.

I think of this as the perfect ska band for people who don't really like ska. I'm not into the whole ska scene so much, but this band is the exception, and I know tons of people who feel the same way. Of course, ska fanatic love Catch 22 too, but they have probably already heard of Catch 22.

Ha!  Love the Chine Drum song!  I'm gonna be listening to that one a lot.

Symphony X is pretty cool metal.  Sounds like good music to play video games to.  Only thing about metal like this though is sometimes the extreme use of the double bass pedal and the fact that all metal vocalists feel the need to sound like brucedickonson (iron maiden) kind of gets annoying.  Good if your used to the style tho.

Catch 22 is cool, I have a few mp3s, not my favorite ska band, but they are one of the better ones out there.

Moving on: "New Pornographers - Letter From An Occupant". Great for you guys into teh indie scene (and why else would you be here, because you want recommendations on Top 40 songs?). Anyway, about teh Iron Madien comment, yeah, it's like asking "Why has ever alternative rock singer since 1992 wanted to sound like Eddie Vedder?" Cause it's a great style and that's what leaving a legacy behind is all about. Maybe one day some alternative singer will want to sound different from Eddie Vedder. Who knows, maybe :D

? I dont think any alternative rock singers sound like eddie vedder, 'cept maybe creed and the guy from seven mary 3.  But in that form of metal it's really extreme... I still listen to a bunch of it, but it confuses me.

Any word on my reccomendations?  I guess most of you have already made up your minds about radiohead but whoever likes the Spidey song should really try out "Leader of men"...

Guess I'll move on as well, trying not to be too obscure cause this thread's for established artists, other one is for more obscure stuff.

Lessee here, next reccomendation is "Special K" by placebo, a bit odd, 'specially the vocals, but a cool band IMO, 'nuther good, more popular one by them is "Pure Morning"

Ok, ill say...

Paul Oakenfold & Bjork - Play Dead

Hate to break it to you Junk, I dunno about that side of the Atlantic but over here Placebo have been and gone. Had their hour of fame, mainly with 'Pure Morning', 'Every You Every Me', and 'Nancy Boy'.

Good work JMT, 'The New Pornographers' are really cool.

Now for another fave track of mine. Absolutely incredible little ditty,

'1st Man In Space' by The All Seeing I  :D

Ah, I did read somewhere that they got big in Europe for a bit, here they kinda had a hit with Pure morning, but most people dismiss em as a one hit wonder, I think they've got some pretty good stuff.  Alright, next one I'll reccomend is "Anna Begins" by the counting crows, I'm trying to go for band you may have heard of but havent heard their best stuff from.  This song is what makes em one of my favorite bands.  Pretty low-key, but a great song.
