Lycaon Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 This Film Is Not Yet Rated - I will bet my left nut this movie never plays in theaters. Hollywoodland - Original reports indicated that this was going to be a George Reeves biopic called Truth, Justice and the American Way but now it looks like it's really something completely different. This Hollywood murder mystery is shaping up to be this year's L.A. Confidential, and possibly the long-needed career boost for Ben Affleck. Nice. I'm looking forward to those two. Quote
Lycaon Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 (edited) Borat - Saw the trailer for this last night, looking forward to it. The Wicker Man - Wasn't looking forward to this when I first heard about it, but the trailer looks all right. Edited August 4, 2006 by Lycaon Quote
Jont Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 The Wicker Man - Wasn't looking forward to this when I first heard about it, but the trailer looks all right. There's no fucking way this can live up to the original, but I want to see it to see if they do anything interesting with the concept. It's not an attempt at a straight remake and that always better than a poor imitation. Quote
Silent Bob Posted August 5, 2006 Author Posted August 5, 2006 Beerfest - From the comedy troup that brought you Super Troopers and Club Dread. You may not be able to say that the Broken Lizard group makes good movies, but they're damn dedicated to their jokes. A Good Year - Ridley Scott takes another break from swords and sandals to re-team with Russell Crowe for this one. The story looks a little cliche, but Scott can always be counted on to surpass cliches. Night at the Museum - It looks like great fun in the Home Alone/Jumanji sort of way, and it's got a helluva cast. This could be the family movie to beat this holiday season. The Covenant - Ok so it's, what, The Craft with guys. But the effects are pretty cool. Quote
Reverend Jax Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 Fast Food Nation - With star-heavy cast like this (Patricia Arquette, Bobby Cannavale, Luis Guzman, Ethan Hawke, Ashley Johnson, Greg Kinnear, Kris Kristofferson, Avril Lavigne, Esai Morales, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Lou Taylor Pucci, Ana Claudia Talancon, Wilmer Valderrama), thsi one's going to get pretty good release. Looks like fun. Based off the book. Quote
Silent Bob Posted August 6, 2006 Author Posted August 6, 2006 The Departed - Martin Scorsese's American remake of Infernal Affairs with an insanely good cast - Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jack Nicholson, Mark Walhberg, Alec Baldwin and Martin Sheen. What, you want true-life football movies? We got true-life football movies! Invincible - True story of a 30 year old Eaglers superfan who tries out for the team and ends up becoming one of the unlikeliest rookies in history. Gridiron Gang - It's pretty self explanatory. Quote
Reverend Jax Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Man of the Year - OK, I like Robin Williams, but I don't think he's done anything worth my time int eh realm of comedy since...looking here on imdb.com*, I'd say The Birdcage. But this...this look like one fo the smartest, funniest movies I've seen in a long time. I'm markign Oct 13th on my calender. Watch this trailer! *It looks like Mrs Doubtfire 2 is in pre-production. That could cancel out the positive effect of Man of the Year. Quote
Silent Bob Posted August 7, 2006 Author Posted August 7, 2006 Man of the Year does look good. As does this. Stranger Than Fiction Quote
Lycaon Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 (edited) Stranger Than Fiction looks quite nice. Edited August 8, 2006 by Lycaon Quote
Silent Bob Posted August 8, 2006 Author Posted August 8, 2006 The Last King of Scotland - Looks damned interesting, and if nothing else it seems to have one hell of a performance from Forest Whitaker, and that's always fun to watch. School for Scoundrels - From the director of Old School, with Billy Bob Thorton doing what he does best, and Jon Heder who, face it, is forever going to be Napoleon Dynamite. Quote
Silent Bob Posted August 9, 2006 Author Posted August 9, 2006 Employee of the Month - Ok, I'll be honest, as happy as I am that Dane Cook is headlining movies now, this doesn't look funny at all. Really. At all. And they're completely ignoring the kind of comedy that Cook is good at. This kinda low-key performance is something I'd expect from Ryan Reynolds (because he knows how to make it work) but not Dane Cook. Quote
Reverend Jax Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 Maybe the producers confused him for Ryan Reynolds when they offered him teh part. Quote
Silent Bob Posted August 10, 2006 Author Posted August 10, 2006 Yeah, "what's the name of that funny slightly-gay looking guy the kids like to see now?" Quote
Reverend Jax Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Speaking of Ryan Reynolds, Smokin' Aces - I love this trailer, especially the beginning. Between this and Hollywoodland, Affleck is back. Quote
Reverend Jax Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Borat - Saw the trailer for this last night, looking forward to it. Sasha Baron Cohen fans are in for a treat. Quote
Silent Bob Posted August 12, 2006 Author Posted August 12, 2006 The Black Dahlia - Oh De Palma, how I've missed you. Quote
Silent Bob Posted August 16, 2006 Author Posted August 16, 2006 (edited) Tsk, am I the only one who loved The Black Dahlia trailer? Half Nelson - Said to be a phenominal performance by Ryan Gosling (something the trailer lays on a little thick) and looks like a good little movie all around. 10th and Wolf - Based on the accounts of "Donnie Brasco", this mob movie is the film that may very well show the world that James Marsden was a good actor all along underneath that Cyclops visor. Snakes on a Plane - Not that there's anyone left here who hasn't seen it already. This trailer gets cheers in a theater. Looks like a great drinking game could be made for everytime a snake jumps directly at the camera. The Pursuit of Happyness - An inspiration story that features Will Smith acting alongside his young son, Jaden. Though it looks like having his son there is inspiring Smith to give a particularly good performance, so far it doesn't look like his son inherited any of his father's acting talent. Cute kid, though. The spelling error in the title irritates the hell outta me, though, I hope they explain it somehow (Apple.com takes it a step further by accidentally titling the link The Persuit of Happyness...somewhere my highschool English teacher is squirming) Fast Food Nation - Hot on the heels of A Scanner Darkly, Richard Linklater comes back with this highly-anticipated flick about the fast food industry. The Santa Clause 3 - The first movie was cute enough in that family-friendly Christmasy way (elves with jetpacks always made me laugh). The second one was completely unnecessary. Which makes this third one an obvious act of Satan himself. Please, Disney, for the love of all that is holy, release your hellish stranglehold on Tim Allen so he can go back to being funny...if he still remembers how. Christ, if they can't even get David Krumholtz back (talented and always fun to watch, but not exactly having a spectacular career right now) it's time to close up shop. Jet Li's Fearless - Said to be Jet Li's final martial arts movie (yeah, we'll see how long that lasts) from the producer of Hero, the choreographer of Unleashed/Danny the Dog, and the director of Freddy Vs. Jason. Edited August 16, 2006 by Silent Bob Quote
Silent Bob Posted August 17, 2006 Author Posted August 17, 2006 The Grudge 2 - Because every moderately successful horror film gets a sequel. Note to self: if anyone ever says "Everyone who has ever gone into that house has died" to me, I'm not going to go into the house. My First Wedding - So it's not the best trailer I've seen, but since Rachael Leigh Cook is so unbelievably hot, and because it has a pretty funny premise, it's on here anyway. The Amateurs - A group of friends portrayed by always-great actors like Jeff Bridges, Tim Blake Nelson, Willliam Fichtner, Patrick Fugit, Joey Pantoliano and ok Ted Danson too, decide to spice up their dull lives by producing a shooting their own adult movie. The Marine - I don't know why I'm putting this up except that it appeals to the part of me that feels nostalgic for 1980s action movies. Had this been 15 years ago it could have easily starred Arnold, Sly, Jean-Claude, or yeah even Chuck Norris. Plus it looks like Robert Patrick is having fun. Quote
Reverend Jax Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 Fast Food Nation - Hot on the heels of A Scanner Darkly, Richard Linklater comes back with this highly-anticipated flick about the fast food industry. I already linked the Fast Food Nation trailer, but yours is a newer higher quality link. Fast Food Nation - With star-heavy cast like this (Patricia Arquette, Bobby Cannavale, Luis Guzman, Ethan Hawke, Ashley Johnson, Greg Kinnear, Kris Kristofferson, Avril Lavigne, Esai Morales, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Lou Taylor Pucci, Ana Claudia Talancon, Wilmer Valderrama), thsi one's going to get pretty good release. Looks like fun. Based off the book. The Darwin Awards - Based on the books about people getting themselves killed in reallty stupid ways, it seems this movie is taking a noiry semi-narrative semi-documentary (but not mockumantary?) approach. A bit odd. Good cast though. Jet Li's Fearless - Said to be Jet Li's final martial arts movie (yeah, we'll see how long that lasts) from the producer of Hero, the choreographer of Unleashed/Danny the Dog, and the director of Freddy Vs. Jason. We'll see how long that lasts indeed! Speculation has been surrounding a Jet Li-Jackie Chan project, including that it will be based on Chinese story "Journey to the West" and that it will be directed by Peter Jackson. Quote
Silent Bob Posted August 26, 2006 Author Posted August 26, 2006 Saw III - I'm personally pretty sick (and sickened) of the whole torture = horror kick that Hollywood seems to be on right now, but it doesn't look like it's going away anytime soon. All the King's Men - A fierce performance by Sean Penn leads a great cast in this movie about the rise of southern politician Willie Stark. Written and directed by Steven Zaillan who has a short but very impressive writing resume (The Interpreter, Gangs of New York, Mission: Impossible, Schindler's List, Clear and Present Danger, Awakenings and more). The Protector - Thai actor Tony Jaa (Ong-Bak) is being set up to become the next Jackie Chan. The movie seems pretty typical but the fight scenes look good and some of the stunts are spectacular (particularly the one where he runs up a plate glass window just before it gets shattered by an ATV - I've gotta know if that was really done live or if it was composited). Everyone's Hero - The animation looks a little rough and William H. Macy's voice acting seems surprisingly bland, but otherwise it's kinda refreshing to see a kids movie that's actually catered solely to kids again (as opposed to the Shreks, Shark Tale's and Madagascars that try to pile on the crude humor and innuendo to impress the older crowd). The Return - I guess Sarah Michelle Gellar really is the current generation's scream queen. Haven - You don't learn a whole lot about this tropical drama/thriller from the trailer, but what's there is pretty intriguing. And to be perfectly fair, Orlando Bloom really is maturing more as an actor with each new film he makes. Catch a Fire - A political thriller set in South Africa from the 80s to the present. It's pretty cool to see the always-great Tim Robbins play a heavy. It's also nice to see Philip Noyce directing again, as he hasn't made a big film since he worked with Jack Ryan and the Saint in the mid-90s (he did have two great, little-seen films in 2002, though - Rabbit-Proof Fence and The Quiet American). Godfather of Green Bay - There's some irony in the fact that a movie about a failing stand-up comedian doesn't look funny at all. Even an insanely silly Tony Goldwyn can't save this one. Edmond - "The encounter with the fortuneteller has caused bland businessman Edmond to confront the emptiness of his life and marriage. His wife complains that the maid broke a lamp, and this seems to be the last straw, prompting him to flee the safe boredom of his home for the vortex of the dark streets of the city" is the rather vague description that the site gives. What looks to be a truly scary and disturbing performance from the usually genial Bill Macy. Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny - Infamous - No matter how good this film turns out to be, I just can't imagine anyone going to go see it - it covers exactly the same material that Philip Seymour Hoffman's Capote did last year. In fact, it seems so similar that if this came out a decade from now they'd probably be calling it a remake. The Queen - Covering the death of Princess Diana from the queen's point of view, this film stars Helen Mirren as...well, the queen...James Cromwell as Prince Philip and the sadly-overlooked great Michael Sheen as Tony Blair. Directed by Stephen Frears (Mrs. Henderson Presents, Dirty Pretty Things, High Fidelity). Quote
Silent Bob Posted September 9, 2006 Author Posted September 9, 2006 Casino Royale - Brand new Casino Royale trailer - and it's a helluva good trailer. Watch the large size. Trust me, it's worth it. Quote
Silent Bob Posted October 1, 2006 Author Posted October 1, 2006 We Are Marshall - Just in case you haven't gotten enough true-story football movies this year. This one's looks pretty inspiring though, and it sports a great cast (David Strathairn and Ian McShane in one movie? It's almost unbearble) and what looks like surprisingly restrained directing from McG (Charlie's Angels 1 and 2). Quote
The NZA Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 Casino Royale - Brand new Casino Royale trailer - and it's a helluva good trailer. Watch the large size. Trust me, it's worth it. i havent been hyped bout a bond film in a long time! that was great. Im a little iffy about 007 being that caught up in a chick, but if this one is going for some more character/humanizing, that's cool too. This guy looks great for the part. Thanks SB. Quote
Silent Bob Posted October 2, 2006 Author Posted October 2, 2006 Im a little iffy about 007 being that caught up in a chick, but if this one is going for some more character/humanizing, that's cool too. Well it helps that this is meant to be Bond's first case as a 007. He's not quite the character hewas in other films » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « in fact, his relationship with the lead "Bond girl" and how it ends is one of the key events that turns him into the promiscuous womanizer he's known for (the murder of his eventual wife also helps solidify that, but that's a different film) Quote
Silent Bob Posted February 5, 2007 Author Posted February 5, 2007 (edited) Bee Movie - Hilarious fake trailer for Jerry Seinfeld's cg film about...well...bees. The Hills Have Eyes 2 - I have no desire to see a sequel to THHE, but I admit this teaser is clever and creepy and especially effective on the big screen. Shrek the Third - I'm giving a free cookie to the first one to count the number of "3" movies coming out this summer (off the top of my head, I count Shrek 3, Pirates 3, Spidey 3, The Bourne Ultamatum and Ocean's 13) The Astronaut Farmer - A terrible name and an even worse poster may hurt this otherwise light-hearted and uplifting looking film. Fred Claus - Paul Giamatti is gold, but as Santa Claus? I don't know... And maybe it's time for Vince Vaughn to finally start branching away from beng Vince Vaughn because it's starting to wear thin. 300 - The full-length theatrical trailer isn't quite as perfectly punchy as the teaser but it's still a lot of cool Spartan action and you can't go wrong there. TMNT - In case you thought the teaser was a fluke, nah...the whole thing looks that good. The film seems to be leaning more towards the silly cartoon than the dark original comic, though. I'm not complaining, it still looks like a lot of fun. Hot Fuzz - What Simon Pegg and company did for horror flicks they're now looking to do for the action genre. And is that an evil looking Timothy Dalton showing up briefly there? Rock on! Blades of Glory - Seriously, the poster says it all. Just look at it. I dare you. Shooter - A cool old-fashioned "bad ass goes after justice" action flick with Mark Walhberg, who is remarkably getting better with each film. Live Free or Die Hard - After the better-than-average Die Hard With a Vengeance, I'm not sure if this sequel is really necessary buuuut...what the hell. Shame about that title, though. I'm also worried that director Len Wiseman (director of the Underworld films and lucky bastard married to Kate Beckinsale) might be making the action juuuust a little too crazy (isn't there a more practical way to take out a helicopter?). That kinda thing may work with vampires but it might be a little far-fetched even for John McClane. The Lookout - Memento meets Inside Man? I dunno, but I'll watch Joseph Gordon-Levitt in anything these days. Seraphim Falls - Two Irishmen playing Americans in this western vengeance flick. I almost would have liked to have seen them reverse roles, though. Sunshine - Danny Boyle goes sci-fi. And a really cool trailer too. I love the line at the end. Black Snake Moan - Is...is Christina Ricci gonna look like that the whole movie? Because I am so there. Hannibal Rising - Ever wonder how Hannibal Lecter came to be Hannibal Lecter? Me neither but you can find out anyway. I'm betting a Hannibal without Tony Hopkins is no Hannibal at all. Disturbia - They say that the "blank meets blank" really is the way most films are pitched in Hollywood, so I'm thinking this one was Rear Window meets Scream. Bad idea? Probably, but Shia Lebeouf may just elevate it from the dung heap. Props to David Morse, for that matter. Grindhouse - The Tarantino/Rodriguez pet project finally gets a gritty and stylishly trashy trailer. I'm still not warming up to the gun leg thing, but what's got me excited is that Bruce Willis is in it. Sure, he's not on the cast list and he hasn't been mentioned with the movie before, but tell me that isn't a flash of him towards the middle of the trailer, it really is. Oh and Kurt Russel, too, he's cool. And he's starting to look like Johnny Cash now that he's gettin' old. Edited February 5, 2007 by Silent Bob Quote
