My free EGM subscription (*nods to biship*) brought with it this month a big artlcle on this upcoming PS2 title (september or so), gave it higher marks than anything else i saw this month, praising it for innovation & fun, saying it was kinda like the gameply of Zelda, with artisitc elements. Its outta Capcom's new studio, and its the producer of Viewtiful Joe, as well.

IGN says:

The first original title from Capcom's Clover Studio -- headed up by Viewtiful Joe producer Atsushi Inaba. Okami takes place in a time when people still believed in the existence of God. The world has become a lifeless place, as shown in the game's use of Hokusai-style Japanese woodblock print visuals. Playing as Ama Terasu, a sun god who takes on the form of a wolf, your goal is to bring life back to the world. Bringing life back to the world involves defeating lots of beasts. With each beast you defeat, the world's life force is restored just a bit, with colors and eventually people appearing. Famitsu reveals two of the game's main beasts, the Ama no Jyaku and the Nue. Ama no Jyaku has the ability to peep on what others are thinking and disturbs them by doing the opposite of what they want. Nue, meanwhile, gains strength with every sip of the alcohol that he carries with him.

Between our fans of Zelda & fun innovation, i though tthi smight be popular here. 1up.com does a much better job selilng the game as well, check it out.

I'm speachless (Damnit, NIck knows me well)

What a beautiful game... I really do appreciate the calligraphy and watercolor visuals of traditional Japanese brush style art... it's so gergous! The game play itself seems like it's going to be fun... and waht a story. I dig the whole mythological characters bid in this... truely captured my attention.

Can't wait to get my pretty little hands on this one. :pinch:

Man, its really quite beautiful in action, and i can definitely see what theyre saying as far as the Zelda: Wind Waker-esque gameply, which is nothing but good.

Thanks for the link.

I tried both this and Yakuza over the weekend as well as Saints Row on a friend's 360 and I gotta say nether of the three impress me.

This is no way even close to Zelda... Not even close.

This Viewtiful Joe... Wolf Style... with a few ideas from the Mark of Kri series thrown in... meh.

Just finished this one today after spending the last week or so at it, clocked in 65 hours or so total, and i gotta say: MM was kinda retarded here, this was one of the most beautiful games ive every played. Sure, its artsy, but its got a ton of charm, and i'm not afraid to say it, its a lot better gameplay/fun than Zelda: Twilight Princess as well. I didnt think it would be, but it really was.

The story was great & touching at parts, the level design was solid with memorable locales/adventures, script was a lot of fun to play through and there's a ton of side-quests and fun things to do along the way if you like, all with zelda-like controls/battle and a unique brush system, tied together with a plot deeply rooted in shinto mythology. The overall experience, again, was one of the best i had on the PS2, personally, and likely many other systems. Shame how things went for Clover Studios, i got a lot of love for them after this.

next up: Shadow of the Colossus, Ico, possibly finish up Beyond Good & Evil.

Ok this is next on my list after brutal legend. I remember I was like 10 hours in though and frankly don't want to replay that again so does anyone have the strategy guide by chance?

SAN MATEO, Calif. — June 19, 2012 — Capcom®, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today announced that award winning Ōkami® will be re-born this fall as a digital download on PlayStation®Network for $19.99. Already one of the most beautiful games ever created, the addition of HD graphics will make this new version of Ōkami even more stunning. Ōkami® HD will also feature PlayStation®Move integration as well as a full suite of PlayStation®3 system trophies.

HNNNNGHH ALL OVER MY FACE

one of my favorite games last gen, in HD with trophies (and a plat!) plus Move support...i was so jealous of the widescreen + 480p Wii version but couldn't resolve how they mapped the controls, so this is the version i was waiting on for my replay. day fuckin' one, and it should be for some of you guys, too!
