Hondo's is just about 19 forums, and each should have a distinct feel to it - between the look and the content. Some are more clear-cut than others, granted, but here's how they shoudl break down: Suggestion Box - What Stonehenge was in DD; board technical issues, big Hondo's projects, board ideas and the like. Announcements that apply to all only. Town Square - the first stopoff, main hangout for local announcements, welcome threads, birthday events, and all other manner of randomness that doent fit elsewhere. Good forum for exposuer too, it gets about the most hits, as the spammers know. Politics & Current Events - Should be pretty self-explanatory; political and current event discussion. The debates are one of the last projects i have on deck to get going one day. Plato's Symposium - Philosophy, deep disucssion and such. Take, say, abortion: the legal discussion and such id keep more in politics; ethics and other forms of critical inquiry'd go here. I know the 2 crossover soemtimes. --Sanctuary: i bascially moved all god/religion talk here a while back, and cosmo/love-talk to the powder room. The Forum Formerly known as Culture - rejected names include "The Coffeehouse" and TMTYL's "Cafe de Flore", Sarte's hangout. Ayway, ive always been proud of this quiet corner, of member art, haikus, poetry, short stories and such. Too often, cultural talk is in philosophy, or if its feminie-related, the powder room...ive been thinking of expanding this corner to our board's sociologists (Jax, LL, Sen) and inclduing that dimension as well, kinda Cultlure, sociology & anthropology as well. (the entire etertainment section is pretty distinct; props again to jax for the simple yet classy "Fantasic Fourum" or whatever) Forum Pubs - this place took a bit of thinking; after the board's renaming, this kinda became the hangout for the old-schoolers, as well as home of blargh, and varoius games like that. I move most jokes here now too. Pimp Hand - Basically a section for links and online shit so that Town Square doesnt burst at the seems. I dont always have this one locked down in my head. --Powder Room: all/most things feminine, from cooking and beauty shops to feminism and female current events. Fight Club - After arc's hiatus, i kinda converted this one into the corner to deal with whatever shit you have with another membe directly-corner. personally, i think its worked. Crap shack is the outhouse. Anyway, that's it. if youve got a new angle for a forum, new name or something along these lines, post it here, and mebbe youll immortalize your name onto hondo's as well. For one, im stil thinking of a Member Lounge forum, a place to move all the member works - our poetry, prose, haikus, short stories, art, music, and such to one place, tho im debating where - a town square subforum, possibly, mebbe this forum? I dunno, maybe it could be its own thing, i just wanna make sure it gets seen without crowding the place. ALSO! Because id be moving much of that from Culture, im thinking of revamping the place: most of its current ciontet'd apply, but adding the elemnt of Sociology to it, with Jax, LL, Sen and Ly (if theyre down, possibly others as well) to help steer it in that direction as well. Wed be taking a few relevant threads from the powder room and other places, but basically: politics'd be about that and current events, philosophy for things that fall under that (im debating moving much of the god-talk back in), and sociological and such talk in culture, i think itd really open the place up for great discussion in these subjects, as long as the lines were clear on what's what and there wasnt confusion. Reverend Jax Posted September 1, 2006 Share Posted September 1, 2006 Fine, you want a serious answer, here goes: Yes, it is a great idea because sociology has many topics within in boundaries that are very interesting and can be talked about in an accessible manner, and with the advantage of 4 sociology majors (or "sociopaths" for short) to guide a conversation with some context or insight or just discussion points, it seems lik fertile ground for more elevated threads. Plus, it's a good oppurtunity for Arch to come in and dominate a thread with accusations of Marxism among the board's members, and we can all welcome more of that. Maybe a change here and a change there, but everything is cool as it is! wait, so you think a member lounge forum/subforum is a bad or unnecessary idea? i wanna hear the other sdie before i just go ahead and do it. as for culture, its just adding to the place, so hopefully more folks'll visit there as well soon. Tonight/tomorrow night, ima try to overhaul some of the philosophy threads back in from the pseudo-defunct sanctuary (now home of organized religion talk, sometimes), but if the board sociopaths woudlnt mind scouting threads from politcs, philsophy and powder room etc that meet this brave new criteria, that'd be helpful.
