So what is it? Dirty Harry or Deathwish? Harry Callahan or Paul Kearsey? Eastwood or Bronson?

Now before everyone says Dirty Harry, I want to make a case for Death Wish. Paul Kersey certainly loses a lot more in Death Wish and it doesnt pull any punches (Dirty Harry only pulled a couple but still) and in many ways Paul Kersey seems like a more realistic character, like you or me, he's not an over the top action star, he's a normal guy with a trenchcoat and a revolver and it's nice in many ways. As for the sequels to both movies I prefer Death Wish 5 to The Dead Pool any day cant say much on the rest as I've not seen them since I was about 8 or so.

i havent watched the entire of either series, but yeah, i had to read your thing before i jumped on the dirty harry bandwagon...Bronson's cool, but Sergio Leone showed it in "Once upon a time in the west"; he's a poor man's Clint.

Yeah but Bronson started his acting career 3 years before Eastwood did if you want to count their first minor roles on IMDb (1951 and 1955 respectively) and while in Western's I'm inclined to agree with you on Bronson being a poor man's Clint, his action movies were unparalleled I hold him up there with Steve McQueen. And I dont know I guess while I found Dirty Harry groundbreaking and both Callahan and Scorpio excellent parallels for the story I guess Death Wish always just hit me harder with the thought, "That could be me." I guess it just hit closer to home.
