Personally I think they are in exactly the same league JMT.

Anyway,

Mum and dad, I think you ought

To quit smoking so much pot

And hangin with my friends.

Sitting on the couch with my Misfits records out

Softly banging your head-ead-ead

Maybe its just a passing phase

Whats the matter with my parents these days.

Speaking of the Misfits:

I got something to say

I killed your baby today

And it...doesn't matter much to me

As long as it's dead

Well, I got something to say

I raped your mother today

And it...doesn't matter much to me

As long as she's spread

Sweet lonely death

I am waiting for your breath

Come sweet death

One last caress

Heh, I just remembered some great lyrics when I stuck in this cd the other day

You thought the leaden winter would bring you down forever,

But you rode upon a steamer to the violence of the sun.

And the colors of the sea blind your eyes with trembling mermaids,

And you touch the distant beaches with tales of brave Ulysses:

How his naked ears were tortured by the sirens sweetly singing,

For the sparkling waves are calling you to kiss their white laced lips.

And you see a girl's brown body dancing through the turquoise,

And her footprints make you follow where the sky loves the sea.

And when your fingers find her, she drowns you in her body,

Carving deep blue ripples in the tissues of your mind.

The tiny purple fishes run laughing through your fingers,

And you want to take her with you to the hard land of the winter.

Her name is Aphrodite and she rides a crimson shell,

And you know you cannot leave her for you touched the distant sands

With tales of brave Ulysses; how his naked ears were tortured

By the sirens sweetly singing.

The tiny purple fishes run lauging through your fingers,

And you want to take her with you to the hard land of the winter.

That's a sweet song, but lyrically, my favorite Crema song has to be...

Coming to me in the morning, leaving me at night.

Coming to me in the morning, leaving me alone.

You've got that rainbow feel but the rainbow has a beard.

Running to me a-cryin' when he throws you out.

Running to me a-cryin', on your own again.

You've got that pure feel, such good responses,

But the picture has a mustache.

You're coming to me with that soulful look on your face,

Coming looking like you've never ever done one wrong thing.

You're coming to me with that soulful look on your face.

You're coming looking like you've never ever done one wrong thing.

So many fantastic colors; I feel in a wonderland.

Many fantastic colors makes me feel so good.

You've got that pure feel, such good responses.

You've got that rainbow feel but the rainbow has a beard

    - Cream, Swlabr

That must be some goos shit they're on.

A great song that accurately describes my present condition...

Hear me spit on you, wither I

Remold into gold and bury I from - Sun

Reborn left to sigh, recure maybe I'll

Be born and simplify - The way I lie - Before

I get bored, I get bored, I get bored I'm bored

Repent by you and trust to figure out

I burn that gift to you - doll and let it shine before

I get bored, I get bored, I get bored, I wish for a real one

Fit and confide, before me or I

I will come clean, it gets worse - it's more

Get bored, I get bored, I get bored, A wish for a real one

Get bored, Get bored, Get bored, I wish for a real one

MODERATOR NOTICE:

Be careful not to bomb the topic, if too many songs get called out then people'll stop reading 'em, it'll just turn into a thread for naming songs you like...

Try to keep it to one verse (or even a few lines) if possible altho if there're songs where you need the lot for a point of reference, go ahead but don't expect anyone to read or appreciate 'em...anyway, that's it.

Anyone who doesn't like big lists of lyrics best leave this thread alone, else it could get messy!

Seriously though, I do agree, if you would refer to my previous posts my lyrics have been short and sweet.

By 'big lists of lyrics' I thought people would post bits of songs, but loads of snippets at a time. Posting huge songs is mostly a waste of time 'cos I doubt anyone will read them so it defeats the purpose of the thread...

Anyway enough of being THE MAN, hopefully I can get back to posting big lists of lyrics (snippets), I only got round to Idlewild and some of RFTC, there's a fair few other bands I wanna post!

Right, that does make sense just hard to pick a snippet sometimes... well, here's a couple lines I always liked...

wide open road of my future now... its looking fucking narrow"

The Small Hours by the Dudley Corporation:

It's a little early  for last orders

It's a little late for me to stay

And the barman doesn't want to know

So I'll go away

Get lost in all my secret histories

while trying to write a fresh page in this book

The drink takes the piss out of my sadness

made out of a silence that your voice has broken

There's not much too break when you've grown up

Mabey I should be afraid

cos when you look at me

things get a little weird.

I think I should leave.

Spend the night looking at the telephone,

just wishing I had the balls to call.

I think I'll pour another glass

and curse your name under my breath and make my way into my bed and grab my crotch and tease out all the fun we used to have.

The walls start to breathing and my stomach starts to scream and I puke into the small hours and die.

"If it's an old man or young boy, you're hanging with another guy

I'm no fool, I'll never be true to you"

- Rocket from the Crypt, Break It Up

"If hell's to roam,

Then we got hell to pave"

- Rocket from the Crypt, Panic Scam

"I sit here like I'm bleeding, trapped by my device

Moan about the agony, and try to pass the time

There's no other way to tell you, my emptiness inside

My aching heart is dying, without you by my side

Don't need no piece of paper, don't need no fancy ring

A picture does me nothing, to get me through this thing

I could hold you at arm's length, and complain about the distance

Your touch feeds my love

I could die a million times a day, without one conviction

Your touch heals my love"

- Rocket from the Crypt, Your Touch

I'm starting to warm to their 'RFTC' album, not as good as their other albums but good nonetheless, has some of the best sleevenotes in history:

"PRODUCTION NOTE: Caveman Productions took great time in preparing this recording for you, the knowledgeable listener. For the first time on compact disc we've been able to exceed the industry normality of 20 digi-bits per second. By using an array of microwave enhancement techniques, we were able to achieve a spectacular 23 digi-bits. The obvious result is a sound that is intimately close yet extremely "hot" (music business speak for a different kind of loud). I'm sure you'll agree, rock 'n' roll never sounded so good. This entire recording was conducted completely live with the exception of the second vibra-slap hit on the first verse of "You Gotta Move". I hope you get much enjoyment from repeated listenings of this quality work."

  • 2 weeks later...

Wanted to edit it down at KOS' request, but the whole thing's good, honestly.  Not many rap songs in this section, but I think this one deserves a spot.

NAS - One Mic

One time...yeah..yeah...

Yo, all I need is one mic, one beat, one stage

One nigga front, my face on the front page

Only if I had one gun, one girl and one crib

One God to show me how to do things his son did

Pure, like a cup of virgin blood; mixed with

151, one sip'll make a nigga flip

Writin names on my hollow tips, plottin shit

Mad violence who I'm gon' body, this hood politics

Ackowledge it, leave bodies chopped in garbages

Seeds watch us, grow up and try to follow us

Police watch us {*siren*} roll up and try knockin us

One knee I ducked, could it be my time is up

But my luck, I got up, the cop shot again

Bus stop glass bursts, a fiend drops his Heineken

Richocheting between the spots that I'm hidin in

Blackin out as I shoot back, fuck gettin hit! {*more sirens*}

This is my hood I'ma rep, to the death of it

'til everybody come home, little niggaz is grown

Hoodrats, don't abortion your womb, we need more warriors soon

Sip from the star sun and the moon

In this life of police chases street sweepers and coppers

Stick-up kids with no conscience, leavin victims with doctors

If you really think you ready to die, with 9's out

This is what NAS is about, nigga, the time is now!

{*whispering again*}

Yo, all I need is one mic..

All I need is one mic.. that's all I need

All I need is one mic.. all I need niggaz

All I need is one mic.. yeah

{*gradually getting louder*}

All I need is one blunt, one page, and one pen

One prayer - tell God forgive me for one sin

Matter fact maybe more than one, look back

at all the hatred against me, fuck alla them

Jesus died at age 33, there's thirty-three shots

from twin glocks there's sixteen apiece, that's thirty-two

Which means, one of my guns was holdin 17

Twenty-seven hit your crew, six went into you

Everybody gotta die sometime; hope your funeral

never gets shot up, bullets tear through the innocent

Nothin is spared, niggaz roll up, shootin from wheelchairs

My heart is racin, tastin revenge in the air

I let the shit slide for too many years, too many times

Now I'm strapped with a couple of macs, too many nines

If y'all niggaz really wit me get busy load up the semis

Do more than just hold it explode the clip until you empty

There's nothin in our way - they bust, we bust, they rust, we rust

Lead flyin, feel it? I feel it in my gut

That we take these bitches to war, lie 'em down

Cause we stronger now nigga the time is now!

{*whispering again*}

All I need is one mic.. that's all I need, that's all I need

All I need is one mic.. there's nuttin else in the world

All I need is one mic.. that's all a nigga need to do his thing y'know

All I need is one mic..

{*starting loud this time, getting quieter*}

All i need is one life, one try, one breath - I'm one man

What I stand for speaks for itself, they don't understand...

Or wanna see me on top, too egotistical

Talkin all that slick shit, the same way these bitches do

Wonder what my secrets is, niggaz'll move on you

only if they know, what your weakness: is I have none

Too late to grab guns I'm blastin cause I'm a cool nigga

Thought I wouldn't have that ass done? Fooled you niggaz

What you call a infinite brawl, eternal souls clashin

War gets deep, some beef is everlastin

Complete with thick scars, brothers knifin each other

up in prison yards; drama...where does it start?

You know the block was ill as a youngster

Every night it was like a, cop would get killed, body found in the dumpster

For real a hustler, purchased my Range, niggaz throwin dirt on my name

Jealous cause fiends got they work and complained

Bitches left me cause they thought I was finished

Shoulda knew she wasn't true she came to me when her man caught a sentence

Diamonds are blindin, I never make the same mistakes

Movin with a change of pace, lighter load, see now the king is straight

Swellin my melon cause none of these niggaz real

Heard he was, tellin police, how can a kingpin squeal?

This is crazy, I'm on the right track I'm finally found

You need some soul searchin, the time is now

All I need is one mic.. yeah, yeah yeah yeah

All I need is one mic.. that's all I ever needed in this world, fuck cash

All I need is one mic.. fuck the cars, the jewelry...

All I need is one mic.. to spread my voice to the whole world

Bon Jovi is cool, but I would certainly not say everything of theirs is good. Always and It's My Life come to mind. Anyway, this is a song about Stem Cell Research by Dream Theater. It has soundbytes from news talk shows on CNN and such interwoven into the music (which are indicated as such by beign in quotations). The [?] are part where the soundbyte is difficult to make out. Great song, very moving, I recommend it highly.

The Great Debate

"A Gallup snapshot poll taken immediately after              [both Channels]

President Bush's speech on funding embryonic

stem cell research last night shows that half of

Americans approve of his decision, 25% do not,

and still another 25% aren't sure what to think."

"Most people don't even know what stem cells are."           [Left Channel]

"Who's going to scream the loudest, will it be the           [both Channels]

right-to-lifer's, will it be the scientists?

And now what's going to happen is that there will

be a tremendous amount of lobbying in Washington

D.C. Scientists, entertainers, people who want to

see this research will be coming forth."

"I'm concerned about it, Christopher Reeves is               [Right Channel]

concerned about it, everyone is concerned about it,

but the big question is, do the ends justify the

means? And when we talk about research, yes we can

cure a lot things speculatively, but where's the

   proof?"

"These developing human beings that they're talking          [Left Channel]

about, these embryos were produced in an artificial

scientific environment, in vitro fertilization is

   not God's will."

"That doesn't make them any less human though, after         [Right Channel]

   that happens."

"We're on a road where we really don't where we're           [both Channels]

going as far as what's next, we're talking about

harvesting embryos, we're talking about this, we're

talking about that, but what is the cost?"

"How could we possibly abandon the research?"                [Left Channel]

[The following samples are played simultaneously]

"Well that's right, it's the old question, I mean if         [Left Channel]

you think the research is good, of course you'd have

no problem at all with it. It's only if you think the

research involved is something evil, then you get the

question of ‘Is it okay to [?]?’ And the truth of

the matter is that we do that all the time with organ

transplants, I mean with people that are killed or

murdered or people who're just victims of automobile

accidents, abandoning all [?]. We do take their organs

and we look to try to save other lives. We try to [?]

all the time. [?] kill someone [?]"

"And I'd like to mention that we don't have the answers      [Left Channel]

yet. We need to put the money into something that'll

hopefully get those answers in the future. Listen,

   we're out of time."

"And in this country there was a great outrage of [?]

from all points. From churches, mainline [?]...

that you can not use [?]... to cure [?]...

and as it turned out [?]... great outrade... [?]"       [Right Channel]

   What if someone said

   Promise lies ahead

Hopes are high in certain scientific circles

   Life won't have to end

   You could walk again

   What if someone said

   Problems lie ahead

   They've uncovered something highly controversial

The right to life is strong

   Can't you see it's wrong

Human kind has reached a turning point

Poised for conflict at ground zero

   Ready for a war

Do we look to our unearthly guide

   Or to white coat heroes

   Searching for a cure

   Turn to the light

Don't be frightened of the shadows it creates

   Turn to the light

Turning away would be a terrible mistake

   Anarchist moral vision

   Industries of death

   Facing violent opposition

   Unmolested breath

   Ethic inquisitions breed

   Antagonistic views

   Right wing sound bite premonitions

   A labyrinth of rules

   Are you justified

   Are you justified

   Are you justified

   Justified in taking

   Life to save life

   Life to save life

   Life to save life

   This embryonic clay

   Wrapped in fierce debate

   Would be thrown away

   Or otherwise discarded

   Some of us believe

   It may hold the key

   To treatment of disease

   And secrets highly guarded

   Are you justified

   Are you justified

   Are you justified

   Justified in taking

   Life to save life

   Life to save life

   Life to save life

Human kind has reached a turning point

Poised for conflict at ground zero

   Ready for a war

Do we look to our unearthly guide

   Or to white coat heroes

   Searching for a cure

   Turn to the light

Don't be frightened of the shadows it creates

   Turn to the light

Turning away would be a terrible mistake

   We're reaching

But have we gone too far

   Harvesting existence

   Only to destroy

   Carelessly together

   We are sliding

   Someone else's future

   Four days frozen still

   Someone else's fate

   We are deciding

   Miracle potential

   Sanctity of life

   Faced against each other

   We're divided

   Should we push the boundaries

   Or should we condemn

   Moral guilt and science

   Have collided

   Turn to the light

We defy our own mortality these days

   Turn to the light

Pay attention to the questions we have raised

[The following samples are played simultaneously]

"...research, scientific advancement. And I know we're       [Left Channel]

going down a road that we may not know where we end, but

we...that's exactly what science is all about. I'm very sorry,

but I you know I do feel sympathy for people who whose spines

are...have uh have been severed. There's a possibility we

might be able to cure them. I am concerned about a cure for

juvenile diabetes. And if these types of scientific

advancements can cure these diseases, then quite candidly

I think there ought to be at least, what President Bush has

   said, some limited research."

"One of the one of the big questions that still remains for  [Right Channel]

me though is that all of these embryos that are are set or

uh being discarded for example um is this worse than just

   throwing those away?"

"We don't know if they're going to be discarded. All of a    [Right Channel]

sudden, I mean, we're going to say, uh we started with the

ones that are going to be discarded. Then all of a sudden,

we're going to have people being solicited to donate parts

of their their anatomy to harvest parts of, like, a part

of what have you. I mean that's how's it starts."

"Even though if they start soliciting, women and men in      [Right Channel]

   fertility clinics have extra embryos."

"Stem cells come from developing human beings and that they  [Right Channel]

shouldn't be uh experimented on in a way that doesn't make

sense or that is unethical, but at the same time there is

   great promise."

"I have a 28-year-old son, her grandson, that that uh is     [Left Channel]

uh paraplegic. And if there is a small chance that my son

would be able to have any feeling and be able to walk, I

   am for it."

"a human body having evolving for tens of thousands of       [Right Channel]

years and we're just injecting cells from embryos into

people's brains, and and how do we come to to do something

   like that?"
