The NZA Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 ive leanrd there's a number of people who think they know what producers do, but dont really have any idea: for those of you, there's this. I know its mostly hip hop names, tried to include a few others, but producers make more a name for themselves in that genre, i think. Its an ongoing thing, ill add more if noteworthy ones are mentioned...anyway, what do you think?
Ganny McVagflaps Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 Phil Spector. Outside of him...Lil' John... Also we need some George Martin up there.
The NZA Posted October 14, 2006 Author Posted October 14, 2006 who, who, and who? you should just vote for the RZA, im thinkin.
Ganny McVagflaps Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 I thought I read Scott Stapp (who would've immediatly gotten my vote) but then I saw you were punking me with that Scott Storch guy.
The NZA Posted October 16, 2006 Author Posted October 16, 2006 its like youre just making names up, i just dont know. I was thinkin of adding classics like Jay Dee, Erick Sermon, fan favorites like Madlib/MF Doom, etc but its pretty much just me on this not-even-one-fucking-vote poll here.
Reverend Jax Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 Phil Spector is the man behind the "Wall of Sound" sound. He produced (among many things) the Righteous Brothers' You've Lost That Loving Feeling, whihc was a break though in production at the time, and the record that BMI claimed was the most played record on the radio in the 20th century. But I went for Rick Rubin. Stripped down maybe, but be brings out the raw essence of a good artist's sound. From Run-DMC, to the Beastie Boys (the Dust Brothers should be on this poll for producing Paul's Boutique), to the Red Hot Chili Peppers to SOAD to Johnny Cash and any metal in the 80's that had balls, when it come to hard rock and hip-hop, In Rick Rubin We Trust. Kurt Cobain was never happy with any producer, even though they we hand picked by him, but I'm convinced that if Rick Rubin had had a chance to get his hands on some Nirvana Masters....
Ganny McVagflaps Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 Phil Spector: John Lennon - Imagine George Harrison - My Sweet Lord The Crystals - Da Doo Ron Ron, Then he kissed Me The Rightous Bros - Unchained Melody, (and as Jax said) You've lost that loving feeling The Ronettes - Baby I love you, Be my Baby Ike and Tina Turner - River Deep Mountain High and.... Which, although the band talked about how much they hated I think it's a perfect 10. Plus he shot that chick who was in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High". George Martin worked with these kids. You may have heard of 'em.
the division of joy Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 im definitely goin with the rza... my love and respect for that man is unfounded.....

Yeah, Spector also did Let It Be, which I always thought the band didn't like, but seeing as George and John both used him for their solo debuts, I guess it was just Paul that didn't like the production of Let It Be (and several fans too to be fair), which might explain why it wasn't until after George died that Let It Be...Naked was made.
Lorelei Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 is this best hip-hop producer or just producer in general? because hey, here i am guys
CA Rodgers Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 As far as producers go... I think the beatles were to big for Phil Spector to take care of and he was a wacko! I have always liked Brendon O Brian. He did all the Stone Temple Pilots stuff, and I really like all the stuff Brian Eno did with David Bowie. Low is one of my favorite albums of all time.
