The NZA Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 This one's getting a lot of attention, and its even been released in a few major theatres down here, prolly cause its all about my hometown of Miami so they figure it'll do better. This is a doscumentary, mind you, so anyone looking for a De Palma/Scorsese gangster flick might be thrown off a bit; tho the trailer makes it look like it has all the sensationalism, this isnt gonna be Scarface, its gonna be what that was based on. Anyone else know about it/interested in seeing it? Quote
Jont Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Do you think you'll recognise anyone you know? 1 Quote
MetalHeart Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Just watched the trailer. I hope they are showing it somewhere around here... Quote
The NZA Posted December 15, 2016 Author Posted December 15, 2016 finally getting around to watching this one - damn, the stories are crazy: helping tow a customs boat while the dude had a few hundred kilos loaded on his, or the other guy who bribed a north bay village Lt enough that dude let them haul shit out of the back of a few squad cars. Donatella Posted December 15, 2016 Posted December 15, 2016 I love Rakontur, the Miami-based production company that made this movie. They also made Square Grouper, the one about 70s pot smugglers that's pretty good. You should check out their site! I have friends who know Billy Corben, Rakontur co-founder. I wonder if I should put it out there that I'm interested just in case they ever need help on a film! I'd love to work for them on a production one day! Quote
Da Cap'n 2099 Posted December 15, 2016 Posted December 15, 2016 Corben is one hell of a follow on Twitter too. He also directed the two U (University of Miami football) documentaries that I fucking love. Man, I'd like to meet that guy. Quote

Donatella Posted December 15, 2016 Posted December 15, 2016 I'm very interested in their documentaries Broke (about former NBA and NFL players who blow their fortunes) and Raw Deal (about rape and frat life). Quote

Any respectable UM fan has seen them so I'm sure Jaimey has the DVDs, Blu-Rays and Laserdiscs. As far as the controversies go, yeah, they're on there. And I'm sure you'll find these docs fascinating af. Uncle Luke is featured predominantly. I'm very interested in their documentaries Broke (about former NBA and NFL players who blow their fortunes) and Raw Deal (about rape and frat life). Broke was interesting, but a far cry from what the Cocaine Cowboys and The U docs (arguably Corben's most successful) were. Raw Deal I have yet to watch. 1 Quote

Donatella Posted December 15, 2016 Posted December 15, 2016 Raw Deal looks like one of their early ones! I wonder what that'll mean for its production value, but I'm still down to give it a shot. Quote
