OK, before proceeding, if you don't know what Grindhouse is, go to Youtube and search for Grindhouse. I think there are two trailers available.

The Pitch: Grindhouse is a double feature film, two full length (probably 90 minute each) made in the grandest over the top "B movie" tradition. I'm pretty sure it will be Robert Rodriguez's (El Mariachi, Desperado, From Dusk Til Dawn, The Spy Kid's Trilogy, Sin City) Planet Terror playing first, then Quentin Tarentino's (Reservior Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill) Death Proof.

While everyone's waiting for Spider-Man 3, I think Grindhouse will be the one that catches the most by surprise. So here's the question:

Which do you think will be the better (the one you will liek the most)?

I'm gonna have to say Planet Terror, the concept just catches my eye more. And no offense to Quentin Tarantino because I think he's great too. I've just always felt that Robert Rodriguez was a better director.

Yeah I'm a minority in favoring Rodriguez, but I think Tarantino's directing is a lot like the way he talks. He just gets so fucking excited that he's incoherant and you're not even sure what he's talking about until you've heard it 3 or 4 times wheras you get Rodriguez's point and even if the source material isn't as good it's still made better by his straightforward way of directing. That and Rodriguez has shown more versatility on movies that weren't indy crime flics.

Two questions, regarding Tarantino, what's not to get? And have you seen Once Upon A Time in Mexico?

Planet Terror looks like its going to be balls to the wall insane, but Death Proof truly looks like a period piece, possibly not that original, but its what I'm looking forward to most. It just seems to have everything, the car, the poster, the fucking insane tagline. Also, not in the running, but can I give an honourable mention to

Aw man, this is like choosing between which one of my kid's faces I wanna piss in. I love Rodriguez but I think that "Death Proof" is gonna be the winner. It's got Mr. Hawn in it for christ sakes. Trailer wise (unless they get any better..which they can't) from what I've seen of "Machete" that's RR's win.

it's weird that you think that tarantino is incoherent. i've never been confused while watching his movies. if you want to talk incoherence, we could start a thread about david lynch. i feel like a monkey after watching his movies.

but yeah, i'm looking forward to planet terror the most. zombies are awesome. as are machine gun legs and rose mcgowen.

Alright. We are divided as I had hoped.

I'm going to have to side with baytor on the point that I think RR is the better director, but I don't think QT speaks incoherently and I especially don't think he directs incoherently. Now, I think QT is a better writer than RR (although arguably less versetile). I think From Dusk Till Dawn (written by QT) is better for having been directed by RR rather than QT. Regardless, I voted for Planet Terror cause it's jumping at me more, but I think it could easily go either way.

We're still split down the middle, and Nick's date from 1994 still has stopped by.

I'm curious if the people who think RR isn't the better director have seen Spy Kids. I frickin love that movie.

I voted "Impossible to tell..." simply because I love both rodders and tarantino.

My opinions so far on each movie are thus:

Death Proof: I read a great quote from the mouth of quentin in a movie mag recently. This isn't verbatim mind you: "Robert is horror because it couldnt happen, I am terror because it could." That quote alone is making me lean towards QTs film, i prefer my fucked-up-shit to have a tangible realism about it.

Planet Terror: What can i say? It has a girl with a machine gun for a leg among other crazy shit i probably dont know about.

From the trailer, Planet Terror looks more fun. But Tarentino is way more consistent than Rodriguez...i just dont see them as in the same league.

Judging from the posters and the previews, I seem to be more sold for the moment on Death Proof.

Planet Terror just seems too over-the-top for me. A woman with a machine-gun leg???

But maybe it could be the other way around, so for the moment I vote "Impossible to tell".

I think Death Proof will be a lot more fun---a little sexy, but more man power--Tarantino is the man!

THEN AGAIN what could be sexier than Rose McGowan with a fucking gun for a leg??

I too am gonna vote "impossible to say" but im impressed that there's an option for my ex, 10+ years removed. I believe she had a kid, last i heard, so she got whats comin to her...let's see you go to a rated R movie now, bitch.

I take all that back. People seem perfectly comfortable with taking kids to R films lately.

Planet Terror... Honestly though, I want to see the 'previews' more than anything. Let's face it, the majority of previews are better than the actual movies anyways. Why even make movies anymore? just make really awesome previews!

lately? talk to my mom about all the movies she used to take my brother and i to see.

The previews could be bye-bye if the MPAA puts their foot down. AICN was saying that they're a little worried about them especially Eli Roth and Rob Zombie's ones. Either way, I can definitly wait for DVD if that happens, alls I want is Edgar Wrights.

I still haven't voted. I'm sorta leaning towards Death Proof though. Mr. Goldie Hawn all the way.

And LLL* for the Fahey. LWNMWRMN Never Forget.

*the extra L is for love

wait, whats goin on with previews, now?

also, yeah, kids in R movies is nothing new, but i think the babies in them might be. Is just here, or is everyone else going to shit like hostel and hearing small children crying? Fuck is that?

My husband took the Loginator to see Ghost Rider...I don't think there was anything in it THAT bad. However, he took him on a wensday night, a week or two after it opened, so there were few people in it. There was a kid with his grandfather, I'm guessing around 8 yrs old, whose grandfather took him out about 15 minutes into it, so of course the poor lil guy was crying to stay.

Needless to say, Logan wants to be Ghost Rider when he grows up now. Not bad for a 4 yr old.

and yeah. WTF??? no PREVIEWS!!! Imma fuckin march on washington i am!
