MC CHRIS

Seriously! I'd take an MC Chris shindig over really purdy flower arrangements and gift bags any day. I know a guy who's daughter is getting married this summer and he didn't let slip the exact cost of the wedding, but he hinted the cake alone is in the $2k range! WTF is wrong w/ people?

MC Chris kicks guy out of concert for badmouthing on twitter

Sometimes talking smack on an opening act will get you in trouble, even if you only do it on Twitter. Sometimes, it'll even get you kicked out of a the show.

That very thing happened last night to Mike Taylor, who writes for the gaming site Game-Boat.com. Taylor was attending a show by nerdcore rapper Christopher "MC Chris" Ward in Philadelphia last night, when a tweet critical of the opening act got him ejected from the show.

According to an account posted on Kotaku's Talk Amongst Yourselves forum, Taylor was unimpressed with one of the opening acts, Richie Branson. "I felt his lyrics were lame and pandering to us gamers and other assorted nerd fans," Taylor writes. "I also didn't think his delivery was good and his beats were mostly sampled from others songs and music (from games, anime and whatnot. I didn't like any of it."

I spoke with MC Chris on the phone, and he explained what happened when he saw the tweet. "I was in my green room checking on my Twitter," he said. "During the show, someone tweeted something negative about Richie. And I don't have a problem with stuff like this. I get made fun of and called all sorts of name every day. But if someone messes with my friend I have this weird reaction that happens, and I do things that probably are kind of not normal, abnormal. I just become extremely protective.

"I marched onstage, and in between songs with Richie, I grabbed the microphone and I said 'Who is this person's name,' he came up, and I said, 'You're going to have to go off with somebody with the venue and tell them to escort you off for talking shit on Twitter.'"

I can't say I'm a fan of MC Chris cause I haven't listened to any of his stuff. He may be brilliant, but c'mon man... guy didn't go on stage and grab the mic and start shit talking. He quietly expressed his opinion, about the opening act, through twitter. Here's some other stuff. Maybe I'm missin something

MC Chris concurred that this isn't the first time he's kicked fans out of his concerts. "I've had people hold up Nintendo DSs that say 'You Suck' to my openers," he told me. "I kick those people out. Because it's rude. It's not because they have opinions and I'm Hitler and I don't like opinions, it's because they're being rude at a nerd show! You don't go to Comic Con and call everyone a geek and push them down."

This is a little different. This is a visible statement that could disrupt the performers, and those punks should've gotten kicked out.

"Is Twitter different than [a drunk fan]? Yeah, sure. It's something that's passive aggressive, and it's a stealthy attack, and no one knows it's happening. And it can just float on by into the ether and never be noticed again. And it probably should've stayed that way, you know, I definitely know my fiancee would prefer it if I left things alone. You know…[laughs], what can I tell you? I hate passive aggressiveness, I hate people insulting my friends and thinking they can get away with it. This guy insulted my openers and thinks he can go and see Powerglove and MC Chris afterwards. That's not how it works. You have to be polite for the people who are performing for you. It doesn't sound crazy to me when I say it out loud. "

They don't call it nerdcore for nuthin', son!

I disagree with this:

I can't say I'm a fan of MC Chris cause I haven't listened to any of his stuff.

But I do agree w/ your take on MC Chris' behavior and pretty much everything else you commented on. It's why I changed my avatar. Not really.

But the best part of this is MC Chris didn't have security escort the guy out but told the guy to FIND security then tell security to escort him out! And the dude did it. That's fucking hardcore. And hilarious. It's like when you were a kid and misbehaved then you were made to go pick out the switch you were to be disciplined with.

MIA crew might not get the reference but most Southerners should.

Yikes, apparently this was a much bigger thing than I realized--which explains why axels never listened to his stuff yet knew about it. A number of people are commenting all over (fb, youtube, reddit, twitter) about negative encounters w/ him. I found it really surprising.

MC Chris posted this apology yesterday. Not the best move. It's cringe inducing.

Here's a fairly common comment from the vid's page:

In all honesty this is probably the best track he's ever put out

A grown ass man throws a fit about someone tweeting about his opening act, can't handle the backlash from angered nerds, cries like a baby bitch. Now that's nerdcore.

:pinch:

I don't know the guy, obviously, but the crying did come off as a wee bit forced.

I went to a show a couple of years back, and afterwards he was hanging out and signing shit. I got a shirt and I was hanging out near the bar, and the lines happened to form behind me, so I was first. I went up and said "can I just get a little MC on the sword here?" it's a black shirt and signable space is limited.

He gave me this LOOK. I can't fuckin' explain it, but it was this unnecessary look of disdain and it made me self conscious. I kept wondering WHY he would give me this quizzical look and then sign my shit silently. I had long hair at the time, and I don't give a fuck how I look, so it was all insane and raggedy and up everywhere, could that be it? Did he get the impression I cut in line?

I don't fuckin' know, but he made me feel like a turd.

Pics of the shirt!

Yeah, there seems to be a pattern w/ him and making fans feel (likely unintentionally) weird or unhappy or just shitty. After watching that apology vid I think those comments coming out in all the feedbacks to his various tweets/posts/etc. are what upset him the most. But again, how much of that was genuine I do question. As a casual fan of his stuff, I hope he learns something from this and is able to treat his fans more respectfully from now on.
