Reverend Jax
Yeah, Sinatra is pop. That's what I was taught in my Jazz Interpretation class (easiest 3 credits ever). I have yet to vote because AC/DC is still not metal enough for ASC.
the division of joy
From wiki. Â AC/DC are a rock band formed in Sydney, Australia in 1973 by brothers Angus and Malcolm Young. Although the band are considered pioneers of hard rock and heavy metal, its members have always classified their music as "rock 'n' roll". Â I don't like em, but i do feel they're worth a place up there.

Iambaytor
Are you honestly telling me you've never heard of pop music in the 40s/50s? yes, frank sinatra is pop. traditional pop. Â Yeah well if what was once R&B is now rock and roll and what was once rock and roll is now country then that no longer translates.
Lorelei
Yeah well if what was once R&B is now rock and roll and what was once rock and roll is now country then that no longer translates. don't know what you mean. you know, even though sinatra sounds like pop music to me. ok so maybe it's not modern day pop music, but for that era, yes, it was pop music. it's not always how it sounds. you ask anyone, "heard of frank sinatra?" they'll say yes. you ask someone if they've heard of thelonius monk, different answer. Â it's like green day and usher, both considered pop. both sound different
Reverend Jax
Is Thelonius Monk Usher in this analogy?  No ASC, I'm not happy.  VH1's 40 Greatest Metal Songs Of All Time  #4) Back in Black #24) Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap  Only other bands to have two songs on the list: Black Sabbath, Guns N' Roses, Metallica, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, & Anthrax.  MTV Greatest Metal Bands  #7) AC/DC Edited June 17, 2008 by Reverend Jax

the division of joy
Man, now that UB40 are up there, i'm regretting my megadeth vote.... Â Â Psssst, i'd be willing to take a fair punt that the ramones are punk.

I'm not going by that.  Oh hay! where's mah Danzing?  The Ramones are not metal. they're considered 'punk', whatever that means anymore.  Country to me (or at least the modern country) is more like pop now than bluegrass. As genres change music that made that genre doesn't fit into it anymore, pretty much all southern rock is now considered country. I mean shit, the Eagles have been at the top of the country music charts.

Lorelei
mainly 14 year olds listen to metal.
the division of joy
mainly 14 year olds listen to metal. Â I like how you're confusing your own opinion with fact.
Iambaytor
mainly 14 year olds listen to metal. Â You bewilder me, you fight with rational thinking for music that you like even if it's not popular then you make sweeping generalities about other things. Your brain is complicated, like trigonometry complicated, only not in a "I'm getting smarter by figuring it out" way, more like a "My brain tumor grew 3 sizes today!" way. Lorelei
does anyone like post-metal? ISIS, pelican, neurosis, cult of luna...
Reverend Jax
I'd be very interesting in anything that claimed the average age of metal fans, or better yet, some demographic analysis, like x% of metal fans are between the ages of 0 and 15, y% between 15-20, etc.
Lorelei
you can literally google it  on last.fm there was a poll as well
Reverend Jax
According to the book "Death Metal Music" published in 2003: Â Median (middle number in set of values): 19 Mode (most frequently occuring number: 19 Mean (average value): 20.2 Â So, as you can see, 14 is not accurate. Lorelei
years old and that's a sub-genre.. this was actually a poll that thousands of people voted in
the division of joy
So if you can push the figures on 5 years, they'd all be 24, meaning you're about ten years out.
Reverend Jax
Assuming no young people in those 5 years became metal fans, and none of the existing metal fans died or lost interest in metal.
the division of joy
Well in those 5 years, no good metal has arose. its a fair assumption.
