Preacher could be made into a 3 hour movie if they cut off the fat. The 4-issue New York arc toward the beginning, Jesse's time as sheriff sorry meat woman will have to be a casualty, the bit in New Orleans, the Vietnam flashback, and some other bits and pieces here and there. That leaves the first arc, Angleville, the arc in France, War in the Sun, and some other bits of storyline before the final showdown. It could be done.

Who watches the watchmen?

Any of us now...

enjoy

Not to sound like an MPAA bitch, but you're doing yourself a sincere disservice if you don't see WATCHMEN on the big screen--preferably IMAX if you've got one in your area.

I'd be surprised because the Song of Ice and Fire pilot is getting produced, and that I think is a fair bit less accessible and damned violent, and sexual. Personally, I can't wait though, awesome series.

I'd been looking forward to Preacher though, damn shame.

Also, I hear Watchman has had a pretty crazy drom-off from Friday sales to the rest of hte weekend. Early on it had been tracking to $70 mill and dropped down to $55, work is, next week might be a worse drop off than ususal. Considering the budget, it might not be all that profitable until the after market. It had a better opening than 300, but looks to fall far, far short of it's total take. And it cost more to boot.

Not to sound all "Alan Moore," but Preacher to me is pretty much perfection in the comic book form. As a fan I'd love to see a well made film, trilogy of films, or even better an HBO series, but I can go back and read the comic and get 10x more enjoyment than watching some mediocre filmed bastardization.

Completely off topic, but dude, I haven't thought about that Kiefer Sutherland interview in years! Reading that made me spout a little burst of laughter. The type that makes your girlfriend look at you quizically.

Now, what is your least favorite word?

Say it.

SAY IT!!

Not to sound all racist, but nig...ah, I'm not gonna bite. :worship:

But I will wish you Feliz Gravitas!

And I tell you the same thing I would tell Alan Moore. First of all, no work is perfect, there's always something that can be changed or improved upon, especially when you write it you stupid tit (that's strictly for Moore.) The thing is, even if there is a shitty movie adaptation (this one goes out to Skeet as well) then don't watch it. The books aren't going anywhere, if you don't like it then plug your ears and read the damn trades. You may have a beach worth of sand in your vagina about the fact that a bunch of people only know the movie and not the book but those people knew fuckall about the book to begin with and with the movie many people will be turned on to the book and learn to read and appreciate it as well.

If you would like proof of this statement then I will tell you a comic I was turned onto by a movie. A little book called The League of Extraordinary Gentleman, so fuck you all and the high horse you ride on.

First off, I just wanna say that I love you. Deeply.

Now that you've read The League of Extraordinary Gentleman, doesn't the movie seem like a missed opportunity? They should do another one and just pretend the first movie never existed, to me it seemed like a clear case of Hollywood guys going "Hmm. We could take these characters and do something much cooler than something that would be in a *scoff* comic book." Which, of course, is false. I think there's been a positive movement these days of using the actual book as a storyboard for movie adaptations. So many awesome classic little scenes from that first League book that would have been so great in a movie. My favorite is Hyde being able to secretly see Griffin via his infrared vision. I loved that. So much potential, squandered because some douche bags thought they knew better.

I do think a certain amount of fanboy outrage to movies is the snob factor; they don't want the general populace to be aware of something that they consider themselves "cool" for being aware of. I'm the opposite, I think it's awesome that it's being exposed to people that would never think of cracking open a comic book otherwise. I'm secure enough to not be threatened and I love the comic industry and artform enough to want to see it flourish at practically any cost.

That said, I get really pissed when something I hold dearly is bastardized for public consumption. Then it's hurting things and giving people a false impression.

The thing is, I still like the movie as the over-the-top action fest it is (the same reason I own the Street Fighter film.) It was fun and an interesting take on the classic characters. Also being faithful to the book could never happen as one could never be able to fit that much buggery into one film.

Plus it gets harder and harder for me to feel sorry for Alan Moore when his work gets the scalpel treatment after I read that one he did where Wendy from Peter Pan gets gangraped by The Lost Boys.

Damnit Baytor, tell me a 'Smallville'd' Hitman wouldn't cheapen the fuck out of the source material. I've never mentioned it, but christ knows Hitman's a series of cheap tights jokes & poor Irish Stereotypes. Take the piss out of Wanted all you want, but Hitman's nothing if not paddling the same boat. Preacher on the other hand, is incredible & should be treated with the utmost respect.

I'm not sure if it would be hard to sell a studio on the idea of a Preacher trilogy, with a trilogy selling three times the tickets of a single movie. The concern with green lighting a trilogy from the get go is you don't want to pour money into making a trilogy if the first one flops, cause then you have two flops in the can, but you can make one and get everyone in the cast contractually obligated for two sequels. If the first movies a big hit, you can saw money filming the second and third together (like they did with Pirates, the Matrix and Back to the Future). Doing this both means you can keep all the fun things in Preacher that aren't essential to the story, but that really gave the story its pace and development.

In the end, the one thing that would really piss me off in any Preacher adaptation, be it single film, trilogy or mini-series, is if they pussied out and

didn't kill God in the end.

I like to judge movies on their own merits and not compare every detail to the book, and if I do compare, it's not the judgment that any change or omission is in and of itself a bad thing, but that would piss me off to no end, and not just because of my own religious beliefs.

And you see, that comment just points out why you don't get it. That's like me saying Preacher is nothing but butt fucking and religious punchlines. And no, it wouldn't cheapen it cause I could just go curl up with some trades (the ones those cocks at DC have actually managed to release... fuckers) and be happy instead of giving myself a brain hemmorage cause I didn't get to see Angelina Jolie's nipples and Morgan Freeman wasn't made out of human shit. Now The Boys is paddling the same boat, sure, even though it's about 2 inches deeper than Wanted but comparing Wanted and Hitman is like comparing Watchmen to Civil War. So I reiterate, you, high horse, fuck off.

Jess and I saw it Monday night (in Imax, no less). Spectacular film. I thought it really did justice to the book. Yes, I know Moore's schtick about how Watchmen was less about story and more about the storytelling method, but the story that was there probably couldn't have been filmed better than they did here. I even liked just about all the minor changes they made, with the exception of one in particular -

the way Rorschach dispatched of the child murderer was certainly a lot more graphic and intense in the film, but I think the way he did it in the book was more true to the character. Minor quibble though.

. Hell, I was even happy that

Hollis Mason lived! I always hated that part of the book.

Can't wait to see it again.

I think they changed the Rorschach thing because it was clearly ripped off from the end of Mad Max. As for the Hollis Mason thing

he still got 'aspolded. Plus I hear his death is in the footage that ended up on the cutting room floor.

Saw it last week but haven't had much time to come on here for a few weeks. In short, it was amazing. The use of period specific music was a stroke of genius and really captured the mood of the story. The minor changes just made the film flow much better too. As for people who haven't yet read the comic I kinda pity them cos it is a tad inaccessible to the guy on the street but its definitely not impossible to enjoy this movie without having read the source material.

Got an email from a friend of mine back in Ireland and in his opinion it "sucked donkey balls". The murderous rage quickly gave way to a feeling of giddy elitism however. "Oh you wouldn't get it man. You haven't read the book." *puts on sunglasses* YEEaaahhh!

I hate the fact that I never know how to start posts that will contain my opinion or views on something... so in short, I really, really liked it. I had finished the comic book the day before and I'm damn glad I did - it pays to read it all, Under the Hood and all.

*SPOILERS*

I think I'm one of the few that liked Rorschach's 'birth' better in the movie - I think it actually suits him better and tells you a lot more of how far can he go and how traumatized he is; in fact, the comic version was kinda 'meh' to me.

One thing I really wished was totally comic-like is Jon's arrival to Mars, when he's holding the photo and then not holding it and then holding it again and all that crazy shit. Still, I liked it the way it was.

Also, I liked the fact that Nite Owl didn't totally agree with Ozzy just like that and then he actually watched Kovaks die - it added a lot more weight to our favorite maniac's death.

*NO MORE SPOILERS. Dude*

So, well, yeah, only think that I didn't like was Ozzy's casting. Dude should have been huge and Superman-looking, not just some pretty boy. I think he was supposed to kinda look like Alexander the Great.

Finally saw it!

I loved it. Despite...

Silk 2's ever growing boobs.

Nixon, I laughed out loud. Couldn't bothered to take any part with him in it seriously.

Rorch was just amazing. He did such a good job, I could have just watched an entire movie about him. Some stuff was cut out, but the movie was already a long one so i forgave it. the super sex scene was meh...they could have shortened it and had the same effect. At one point i was impressed with the staying power...then i was bored, writing grocery lists in my head and marveling on how big that poor guys ass is.

The 'giant' blue penis didn't bother me at all, and i was expecting a giant blue dink in every scene. I was almost disapointed.

had to close my eyes for a second or two during the graphic parts (blood graphic, not sex graphic- that part was good. do they make super hero porn? that would be awesome.) but it was great. now i have to read the graphic novel. ive been wanting to and now i wish i had gotten around to it before the film.
