basicly since most mmo's carry no rating they arn't legal to sell in Aus. the only mmo's that do have ratings are Vanguard and EVE. seems most companies thought they could sell the games without getting them rated but thats not the case, I assume that some fines will be handed out and the games will go through the rating process but what a mess.

Skeeter will probably head butt the screen when he reads this. Australia seems to have the most ridiculous classification fiascos in the world. From what skeet tells me its all to do with some cuntrag conservative politician who reckons a different colour sticker on a game or dvd will prevent the downfall of society.

I dont understand it though. Cant they just classify based on the themes and the potential violence in the game? I mean you cant censor people on chat or team speak or whatever but thats nobodys fault but the users and the risk the parents themselves should weigh up. Its not up to censors to raise your children just advise on what could be harmful to Little Johnnys fragile mind.

bah I worked out cancer a long time ago, I just forget it while fighting Illidan.

BTW mmo's are classifed here but most don't go through the process in Australia because they thought they didn't have to.

and yes they are always under the assumption that the rating may change due to online experience.

Well speaking as someone who isn't Australian but lives there I dont see the Aussies themselves as uptight or overly-prudent. In fact they are pretty damn laissez faire about such things generally so I find it hard to understand why theres so much fuckarsery about the ratings system for games.

PS Is there any chance this issue could be cultural in nature? Maybe the powers that be down under have some mandate to preserve australian cultural values. I know theres a similar kind of thing in Ireland. Its not necessarily in the games industry but definitely in radio and tv. Probably not likely but an interesting point I think.
