We didn't profit by any of this, this was obviously an April Fools Prank, and the joke lasted all of 24 Hours and was subsequently pulled down with an explanation of said joke. That doesn't break copy right laws in the least, nor should it violate any TOS. This can and should be fought. Even then, either this company is really scared of Yahoo (and their lawyer didn't take the time to read the statute quoted) or this is a stupid fucking prank. Also, why would anyone contact yahoo or flikr over what is obviously an april fools' joke, and why would yahoo or flikr do anything other than ask that it be taken down? There were no profits involved. Yahoo wouldn't bother throwing away time and money over something so ridiculous. Hell, my husband's logos have been used for profit, and there isn't much that can be done about it besides ask, that it be taken down. If it isn't taken down from that point (which I do belive there is a grace period) THEN he can go after the ISP provider and demand action, and from there it could go to court (it rarely does). Bishop & gunsmithx helped me form the idea for Hondo's Inc, it was largely their creation. However, their plan was a lot more elaborate - id start making rules here & there, each a bit more oppressive, until we got to april 1st and unveiled corporate hondo's. Sort've a way to have fun & give people the rules they thought they wanted - and mind you, a lot of what was on that list is actually standard fare at many forums ive been to, believe it or not. But, i spent most of the time i had for that project looking up things like how to get ads working, how to implement the badworld filter, hide the other forums, etc - simple shit i just dont do here, so it was a bit rushed, but a lot of you ran with that ball & had a good time, and i was glad for it. Some of you did not; some of you cried like babies or just complained about the one day of me fucking about. Shit, one of you threatened to leave. So, when Pedro (Spunky) threw a hissy fit at being edited, then banned, i took him serious, and StillB was worried about the threat to report us, so i reached out & sent a letter saying not to take shit personally, its just a game etc. the #$%^ replied "APRIL FOOLS!" and id been thoroughly punked. which got us thinking: what if people could be made to believe he did report us? now, my intention was to let the lot of you suffer for almost a week with Hondos Inc until at least half of you were inevitably banned, but it wasnt shaping up that way; for one, my mortal mind was not prepared to see jax & arch not get each other banned quickly, but rather connect. The experiment was crazy on all ends. Pedro insisted it coudnt be allowed to drag its nuts; that we should do a grand-finale, a sort've triumverate of april fools that lead on to this. He basically wrote a script for it (quite detailed, offering himself up as sacrifice for the joke), StillB loved it and drew up the letters. Im not throwing anyone under a bus here, though: it was my call to go ahead with it. I honestly thought it'd be a bit've fun while i was at work, and having such an epic prank handed to me on a platter, i couldnt say no - honestly, if you were in my position and think you'dve done differently, quietly pat yourself on the back for being a better person online than i am, cause i thought it was brilliant. Clearly, some of that was lost here, though. A few of you took way more initiative than id expected, and it meant a lot to me, so i had to call some people up and let them in on it before it went too far. Bishop rightfully made the point that he thought it was not fair game to do this on april 2nd, but those keeping score know we've disrespected april fool's dates in the past, so i thought nothing of it. Also, he said i was wrong to not expect friends to act on this, and that's honestly pretty touching, but i do want you all to appreciate the sentiment that ive basically carried hondo's on my back for so many years now - through lost servers, data, multiple hackings, financial woes etc - that im neither accustomed to nor expecting any help beyond what's specifically requested or the occasional donation. I'm accepting that my resistance to ask for help is a character flaw, but frankly, i call the shots, so said flaws are gonna creep into my decisions too. What i want to say is this: To those of you whose feelings are genuinely hurt: You gotta know that wasnt my intention at all, i really just meant to cry wolf & have a few of you needlessly copy things. As aarty said early on, we'd had this kinda thing happen before, and i left with the sentiment of DoJ asking for a refund so i thought no harm would come here. To those of you who think this was in poor taste: You're prolly right, but i did it anyway. To those of you think my integrity/character/etc is gone now: You're entitled to your views, but, frankly? if my credit in your bank was that weak, idve likely lost it somewhere down the road over something i found a lot less interesting, so no real harm done here. To everyone else: hope you had a good time, that's what it was about. That's it. First off, I was NOT at all offended or genuinely angry at my post being edited on hondo's inc, I was actually playing along a little along the lines of Panch and Ross where I was insulting/violating rules until they banned me, I was the example for hondosinc... and it was fun to play that role, but still lame and obvious as fuck as an April Fools prank. After being banned, I was bored and noticed the flickr thing on the main welcome page, so, it gave me the great idea of fucking around with Nick as revenge for him editing my blargh posts due to me not following the ONE RULE (which irked me a little cause I dislike getting my posts edited to make me look like an idiot, I can make myself look like an idiot just fine thank you). So, I logged in with my old account, SomethingManly, and threatened to report them to Yahoo!, but, it didn't work... nick and stillb just shrugged it off and banned me again, so, I had Signal post up fake AIM convos between him and I where it showed me angrily saying that it wasn't an empty threat, and also had him fakely vouch for me as saying he didn't feel I was lying, I also posted crap on the knoll, since I was banned on Hondo's, I figured I'd put stuff there for extra effect in case they checked to see if I had given myself away on there or somethin. Within minutes of Signal's post, I got an e-mail from nick which reads like this: Just wanted to say, man - yeah, its obviously a joke, im having fun with the board and giving folks the rules theyve been craving, etc. just having a good time with it, sorry you werent enjoying the joke. Anyway, itll all be over in a bit, no hard feelings. Take it easy man. Since my prank was now successful, I just replied April Fools and laughed at them in my reply, dusting myself off, and a little proud to have succeeded. They then responded with "we were shitting bricks and looking up parody law online" and "I can't believe I got pranked on my own prank", and then they said I'd get honorable mention after A WEEK of hondosinc. This is where this prank started up now, you see, I felt a DAMN WEEK was too long for that lame prank, and that they should just end it today and go back to normal, but they wanted to go out with a bang and not just admit it was a failure, so I suggested they prank everyone how I pranked them, seeing as no one else knew about my prank yet, and if they believed my empty threats that easily, with a little more evidence than just Signal posting, others easily would too. I knew I'd take heat and probably a bunch of shit talking behind my back, and even removed two members of my facebook to prevent accidental outing of me to my family on facebook (by the way, Jay, gotta add you back, no offense). I then let Bunny in on it, and Signal also since he would know, and then nick told senshik cause he tells her everything, and so, the three of us then came up with the game plan (which was revised three times). Now, Nick, was planning to literally shut down the entire board and put up just the invision rejection letter on the front page... letting you all squirm via phone and text and facebook, etc. I felt that that would've caused a riot and extreme manhunt with a price on my head, so we went for the cease and desist followed by a quick "you've violated our terms of agreement" letter to scare the pants off all ya, the worked wonders until people go super heated in the argument and apparently, even donated money for a new board. Money will be refunded, no threats were real, and the only reason this occured on April 2 and not April 1 is cause it was not directly planned for April 1, it was done at the last minute and needed time to work. Still, it was clearly an extension of the first prank... My opinion, this kinda proves some of you take this place way too seriously, I understand it's a big part of your life, but, if say Invision liquidated due to the economy tomorrow and erased all their boards, what would you do? April Fools is about getting chumped and getting tricked, if you found it in poor taste, oh well, that's what April Fools is... good pranks are the ones that rile you up while not being suspected as fake, and this one, got damn close. But honestly, for those of you who told me to lighten up when you thought I had really reported this place, take your own damn advice... it's just an internet forum.
