  1. A friend of a friend I knew through a listserver wanted to intro me to Ani's music, so he sent a mix tape from Maryland full of poorly reproduced, third-generation copies of songs: his favorites, soon to be my favorites. As each one of the songs on the album became memorized word for word as well as an anthem for me and my friend Kim, I found myself spending every dollar I brought to the first South florida visit of the Lilith Fair tour on Ani CDs because it was the first place I had actually ever seen one for sale. I bought Not a Pretty Girl and Out of Range. Since then, I have purchased nearly every album she has released. If you listen to the raw wit, fury, and grace she displayson her early work such as Out of Habit and Both Hands or My I.Q., you see the passion of a young woman emerging into the world she will claim as her own through trial, pain, and triumph. But listen to each song as if it were teaching you something about her, about your ex-girlfriends, about yourself, and you will see an amazing growth process unfurling before your eyes. As Ms.DiFranco moves from humor and spirit in Shameless to the raw emotional power of Wish I May, you may notice the subtle transitioning of a young, playful city girl into a woman with powerful emotions wrapped in a world far more real than she'd like to admit. She matures: visible in her lyrics, in her storytelling, in her persuasive political messages, in her musical composition and experimentation. She is capable of expressing thoughts so brilliant, humor so human, and pain so real that we can all relate. She bleeds herself into her songs, she becomes a real person, and she develops a rapor with her audience that very few musicians will ever hope to understand. Even more than that, seeing her in concert feels to old fans like going over to chill at a good friend's house. To people who have never even heard her songs before, seeing her in concert is like falling in love. She is graceful, she is potent, and she is human. I would highly reccommend To the Teeth. Along with Little Plastic Castles (of which I also have a vinyl remix version) and Living In Clip this one is one of my all time favorite albums. songs of note: (I may not remember all the appropriate source albums) The Whole Night (Like I Said) Out of Habit (Like I Said) Shameless Both Hands (Living in Clip version has a beautiful symphony intro) Wish I May (to the Teeth) Overlap Come Away From It (Up Up Up) Jukebox (Up Up Up) Napoleon Providence (to theTeeth) Pulse (LPC) Shy How Have You Been(Out of Range) Letter to a John(Out of Range) The Diner Roll With It Work Your Way Out She Said Rush Hour Loom (LPC) As Is (LPC) She also did an interesting cover of "Wishin and Hopin" on the soundtrack for My Best Friend's Wedding.

  4. Ok, just because these songs are rollin about in my head so much lately: "Warning Sign" , Coldplay, album - A Rush of Blood to the Head Quite frankly anything you get from Coldplay will be a musical treat. "Black and Blue" "Miami" "Good Time" ---- all three from Hard Candy by Counting Crows the last song off the self-titled Dirty Vegas album. Can't remember the name right now.
  5. GAH!!!! Stupid pictures aren't picturing! Show up you stupid picture thing! I'm tech-savvy, I should be able to make this work. I hate to crawl to a boy to fix it.... GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

  8. My back hurts. This forum is paining me.
  9. Now that I've finished college, I am so out of the Anime loop. How depressing. Blockbuster has this? Cause that would be good....
  10. I have a whole treasure box of anime in divx code, but I don't have the divx plugin for my media player. Any tips as to where I could download something like this?
  11. This is the pic I originally meant to post. It just took a while to upload it to ftp.
  12. Unfortunately, Perhaps this is the end result of all these americans drooling over those poor, innocent japanese girls. The first pic on this page
  13. (ducking head now under a desk so I don't get completely slammed by some DBZ fan with a kamayamaya or something attack who was offended by my little tease...)
  14. You've got to admit that there is a lot of bad american TV out there, and sure, there is some bad anime out there too. But there are a lot more opportunities to find sophisticated, intelligent, thought-provoking serial shows in the realm of Anime than there is in the majority of American TV. If you aren't addicted to the Discovery network of channels, then you probably see more than your share of brain-numbing, pointless "entertainment" coming in over that boob tube. So don't beat up on the people who are looking for more than that. Bash the Dragonball people all you want if they aren't looking for anything more interesting than that. They aren't really raising the entertainment bar with that show.
  15. Losing Chase (directed by kevin bacon)
  16. Call me unenlightened I suppose (or just dead tired) but I don't think I got exactly what you were getting at here. The disclaimer was amusing.
  17. I'll take Christina Ricci in almost any version. Though I have to comment that (although I like her character in Ally McBeal right now) she looks pretty scary in these episodes of Ally McBeal she's been guest-starring in. My friend's girlfriend watches it all the time, so I saw her in it a couple of times while I was over. Their FOX network stylists totally succeeded in making her look as unattractive as possible. They made her look like an anorexic alien baby with an enormous forehead. I know that she's adorable, and got an amazingly sexy attitude, but dammit, at least they could try to make her look good!
  18. You all are monkeys given to this planet as an offering of blackmail from one alien race to another. You are a petri dish derived from the sulfur mills pf some distant planet and cultivated out of some underdeveloped juvenile prank. This world is a population of bastards, screaming for their daddy, who came down to this planet, fucked a monkey, and then went back to play with his own, legitimate, three-headed children.
  19. I'm missing out on a $20/hour (brainless, mindless) gig right now. Why? Because I'm in the WRONG state! Dammit. Oh cruel, cruel fate. I am fortune's fool!
  20. How lonely it is when you're the celluloid outcast-- albeit purely for the fact of distance-- though notwithstanding circumstancial evidence to suggest that certain unnamed persons should, could, or would have been able to, if not obligated to in the strictest sense, make arrangements to resolve said predicament given the proper tools for alignment.
  21. It seems to me like there's a bit of a ocean division here... If you live east of the Atlantic ocean, Shakira's not your #1, but west of the atlantic, and she's got a pretty good following. Guess that we sad american twats have pretty different taste in chicks, eh?
