  1. So me and Ben got engaged! I felt weird posting a whole thread about it though, since aside from the standard "Congrats" stuff there isn't much to talk about as we have no wedding plans aside from a vague spring 2011 time period. Pretty ring. I'll try and post a pic once I get a good one :-D

Probably one of my favorite songs of his. He has a beautiful voice. I don't know what else to say, really. Snow Patrol talked about him in one of their songs; they are not as good as he is.

  3. WHY IS THE SUNSHINE MUSIC FUCKING EVERYWHERE NOW??? Adagio in E minor, I swear to god, if I hear it in one more trailer or film where it doesn't belong (thank you, Kick Ass) I'm gonna hunt John Murphy down and force him at gunpoint to sign over the rights to me.

  4. I'm agreed as to Zeitgeist not being fantastic... Whether Billy Corgan did most of the everything in the Pumpkins, especially near the end, it isn't the same band now. It's like the Beatles... near the end Paul was going in and recording things alone, as was John, and Paul was re-recording all of Ringo's drums, but the solo albums that followed, though good (great, a few of them), were not the same, and I would never want to call them Beatles albums. They're not. I feel like he's just trying to get people to buy the album based on the name since Zwan didn't do that well (commercially, anyway... I still liked that album).

As for favorite song, Nick totally stole mine, Annie-Dog. For the moment, anyway. Adore is probably my favorite album, though I've listened to Mellon Collie and Siamese Dream more.

Also, I don't care if it's just Billy and Jimmy Chamberlin (or just Billy now?), there would be very few limits to what I'd do to go see them in concert. I really wanna go on the 22nd. Fellow Texans, what do you guys think? Should we organize an outing? It's been awhile since we did something :-D

  5. Ben likes to change the words to popular songs when he's drunk. Two days ago, I was serenaded with "What would you do, if I peed on you?, Would you stand up and walk out on me?" Last night while playing Rock Band, he sang "Any way you want it, Anal's what you're getting, Any way you want it"

    What a weirdo.

  6. Jumbie's ideas seem kinda fun. More WW games particularly. Though I screwed up royally on the last one, I really had fun and feel like it was a great way to interact with people. Made me excited to be here, and more eager to post in other threads.

Like a lot of people are saying, a certain degree of it is inevitable. People get close with people, and that's just the way it is. I think the idea is that maybe more should be done to foster those connections, and that would make people stick around more and be more active.

And not that a certain degree of abuse isn't gonna happen, or that it shouldn't. People that make it here need to have to be able to withstand a little bit, and be able to stick up for themselves.

  7. Just a thought here... it seems the ones that are arguing more against the fact that there are cliques/putting other reasons out there for the perceived cliquishness seem to be the ones that actually are in the "in crowd." This is not to say that it's a purposeful thing, I don't think there's a conspiracy of any sort certainly, and definitely not to say they are bad people (in fact they are some of my favorite people, I really love hearing what some of you have to say. It's why I'm still here) but just to propose the idea that you might not be able to be as aware of it, or notice how much it happens.

Now, of course people are gonna respond more to the people they know and are close with, there's nothing to be done about that. It's just normal. I think my argument would be more that the idea needs to be out there in the general Hondo's consciousness that it can be really hard to be outside of the group, and really hard to be a newby, and that if you guys want new blood in here, or want some of the moderate posters to speak up more, that it might need a little bit of a conscious effort to acknowledge them. It might liven this place up a bit. Not babying or anything, and not being overly nice or out of character, but maybe just be a little more aware?

  8. I know what Amy's talking about. I tend not to want to say anything about it, because I always attribute it to me not being funny/interesting enough or something, but I do feel sometimes that there's no way to get integrated. I know it's gonna be attributed to me not posting enough but... I go through phases where I start to post more often, but get discouraged when it goes nowhere. I get really awkward at the idea of responding to other people's posts as well, unless they're people I know (Rachael and CJ, Ryan and Amber, and Ross mostly) because I'm never really sure it's gonna be greeted with anything other than indifference. Not that I'm saying everyone should be all warm and fuzzy bunny all the time, and I'm not sure there's a ton that's gonna be able to be done about it... but I do think it's a very real thing on Hondo's.

  9. I loved A Serious Man... one of the funniest things I've seen lately, and I love that special brand of Coen Brothers humor. The ending made my brain fall out of my head for a few minutes, but once I regained my power of speech long enough to say more than "They didn't really just end it. No. There's no way that could have just ended.", I realized how much I had liked it.

  10. Saw Alice last night. Liked it. Didn't love it, but enjoyed it very much. It was a little wrapped up in it's own aesthetic... I mean, how could it not have been, but still.

Also, it's official. I don't like Crispin Glover and never will. He's off-putting. And his animation was strange... which added to my discomfort with him.

Alan Rickman is great, as always. Was my favorite performance by far.

Hmm what else... no dark under eyes and cascading black hair for the cast. It seems Burton has given up the quest to always make Johnny Depp look like him in movies, in hopes that that makes him look like Johnny Depp.

It was very pretty. Costuming was gorgeous, very easy to spot new trends (for those who are interested).

The crowd was obnoxious. I mean, it's the midnight showing of a Tim Burton remake of Alice in Wonderland, of course it's gonna bring every emo kid in the area dressed up in their finest converse, frilly skirts, hoodies and cascading hair. I shouldn't have been surprised.

  11. The Room (2003 film)

Easily the worst thing I've ever seen. Ever.

You should watch the Rifftrax, I don't know that I could have done that movie without it. They didn't know what to do with the softcore scenes, but the rest was pretty funny...

    Shudder Island... terrible, terrible movie.

about 4 days before that I saw Wolfman... even worse.

What didn't you like about Shutter Island? I loved it. Thought it was great classic Scorsese and Leo just keeps getting better as an actor...

  12. I fucking love this show! I couldn't even say anything but

"Don and Betty are ACTUALLY GETTING DIVORCED!"

for a few hours after watching the last couple of episodes of this season. Consistently awesome, engaging and pretty intelligent AT THE SAME TIME, plus with eye candy out the ass. Jon Hamm is sexy as hell, January Jones looks like a prettier Princess Grace, Christina Hendricks has already been discussed in the hot chicks thread for her amazing rack and pretty much everyone else is either equally good looking, or such an amazing character that it doesn't even matter.

As a side note, I started ordering an Old Fashioned every time I go out, but haven't found a single place that can get me one... most of them are out of bitters, and a lot of them have no idea what it even means. Does no one respect the classics anymore?? Do I have to order a Cran-appletini on the beach with extra cherries now?? I just want to be like Don Draper :(
