  1. It really annoys me how a lot of people are blaming the whole Tonight Show fiasco on Jay Leno. If anyone is to blame, it's the NBC execs. Had they not rocked the late night boat to begin with, things would've been honky-dory, but noooo! Apparantly none of them have heard the saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". Look at how the late night format was BEFORE the change. Both Jay and Conan were at the tops of their games. Jay was killing with the Tonight Show crowd, and Conan was killing the Late Night crowd.

But somewhere down the line, NBC had some foolish paranoiac fear that Conan was going to jump ship to another network as soon as his contract with NBC expired. So what did they do you ask? Offer him the Tonight Show in the hopes it would convince him to stay with NBC. Jay did nothing wrong here, in fact, I think he was the one who got the sour treatment with this. NBC of course knew that by promising Conan the tonight show, now they risked Jay wanting to jump ship to another network, and now they had to come up with an idea and quick to not lose him. So they decided to try a little experiment. All their new shows were just not biting with audiences, so they decided to devote the 10pm slot 5 days a week to a Tonight Show-like show just for Jay. They thought it would help fix things and keep all parties happy, but nope, far from it. Network affiliates were complaining that they were losing viewers for their 11 o'clock news programs, not to mention Conan was just not bringing in the numbers NBC had hoped for in ratings compared to Conan's new competitor, David Letterman. Now NBC is upset that their programming change didn't have the results they had hoped for, so now they gotta do some damage control. Their quick fix-it plan? Move Jay back to 11:35, but cut his show's length by a half-hour, and move Conan's Tonight Show to 12:05. Jay was fine with the idea, but Conan basically said "Hell no! Tonight Show has always been at 11:35, so why should I push my show back 30 minutes?" which I feel he had every right to do so. Everyone knew that NBC originally wanted to just restore things as they were, but Conan was smart, he negotiated in his contract that if he was booted or forced to leave the Tonight Show, he'd get 40-something million dollars, so they knew they couldn't just change everything back. Conan got pissed off with the way he was treated, and so he did what he felt was the only thing he could do, and that was quit the Tonight Show, take his promised money, and now try to make a new start on another network or elsewhere. NBC really dropped the ball here, so everyone should be pissed at them, and not at Jay Leno. It just really grinds my gears that all the Conan fans just want to make Jay the sacirficial lamb in the middle of all this when clearly he didn't do anything wrong. That's just my opinion on this whole thing.

  2. And for the rest of us who are not 50 years old with a sense of humor stuck in the 80's found Conan to be a much better host.

Why do you feel the need to make such insulting remarks against those who don't share your love for Conan?

"NBC - Nothing But Cunts" lol

LMAO! How funny, just earlier I was trying to think of a funny acronym for NBC. Good one MH!!! :birf:

  3. O'Brien landed the "Tonight" show after successfully hosting "Late Night," which airs an hour later, since 1993. But he quickly stumbled in the ratings race against his CBS rival, David Letterman.

Under Leno, the "Tonight" show was the ratings champ at 11:35 p.m. Eastern, but he proved an instant flop with his experiment in prime time.

This shows that NBC should've never rocked the boat to begin with. Both Jay and Conan were making killings with the ratings when they were at their original time slots. Only when NBC had that paranoid fear of Conan jumping ship from their network when his contract expired that they decided to mix things up, and that's when the shit just started hitting the fan and did not stop.

I just find it ironic that back in 2004, NBC bent itself over backwards to try to keep Conan on their network, and now they could care less, and are willing to burn $40+ million just to let him go.

My personal opinion is that both Jay and Conan should've just stayed where they were. Conan's style of humor is more cruder and more adult-oriented, and he was just more appropriate for the 12:35pm time slot. He was there for 16 years and made a killing. Once they moved him to the 11:35pm time slot, things had to change, and he had to change his act to conform to the Tonight Show standards, and that's where I feel he suffered.

As for giving Jay the 10:00 time slot, though I am glad Jay stayed with NBC, the whole premise was just a dumb idea, and was doomed to fail from the start.

And for all you nay-sayers who wanna hang Jay by his nads because of what happened to Conan, remember this was never his idea. If you wanna crucify someone, then nail up the execs at NBC, because they are the ones who decided to rock the boat and created this mess.

  4. Hey guys, I think Acalis is secretly Bizarro. He obviously lives in a world that's backwards from the one we're currently in.

I'm sorry, I can accept the opinion that Conan Obrien isn't funny. I understand that he's not for everyone but given that you're not over 50 and you think Jay Leno is the picture of hilarity, then you hurt me deep deep inside.

Can't help it, I try and try to get into Conan, but he just doesn't do it for me. His style of humor just doesn't rub me the right way and even when he does spout out a joke or line I think IS funny, he drags it out to the point that it just isn't amusing anymore. If he's more your cup of tea, then more power to you, but he's just not for me, sorry.

Bad news for Conan fans, looks like Conan won't be hosting the Tonight Show any longer. Check out the article below:

Conan O'Brien Likely to End Hosting Tonight Show on Jan 22nd.

  5. The thing is the reboot of Hulk came after the original Hulk sucked balls at the box office, but with Superman, all the previous movies were great and successful. Why mess up an already successful franchise to chance it on re-inventing the series??
Oops, I think I meant to say SPIDERMAN and not SUPERMAN, but hey so long as it kept the thread going. :D
Also, does anyone else think that "Spider-Man 4 No More!" would be a better title for this thread.
Isn't it already the title of this thread? :loopy:
  6. I hope they give the Tonight Show back to Jay Leno. Seriously I just can't stand Conan. Say what you will, but I just think the man's just NOT FUNNY AT ALL!

And NBC knows it, otherwise they would've had no qualms about letting Jay Leno loose to go to some other network, but they knew if he did that, he would kick Conan's ass on the ratings big time, so they instead keep him on a leash and give him his own show.

  7. maybe itll be like what they did with the Hulk. They managed an awesome reboot without an origin story (well a whole one). I ain't as well versed on comics as most here, especially on spidey's shit, but i'm thinkin thisll be a good thing. Raimi did great..... on the first 2. :/

  8. The fact that Acalis has come off Hiatus to post this should reflect exactly what this reboot bs means for the movie incarnation of Spiderman.

Well true, but I also figured a lotta comic book movie fans on here, and since this is BIG news, and no one else had posted about it yet, I figured it was a special occasion. :???:

The Retro Duo NES/SNES can be purchased at the link I posted for it. Not sure if you can buy the Super Genintari, but it would be awesome if you could!

  11. I just saw a video from the Irate Gamer about a really cool handheld version of the 8-bit NES System called the Retro Mini.

    ba65_retro_mini_handheld_nes_system.jpg

It plays all of your 8-bit NES games portably, and you can hook it up via A/V cables to a TV set and it works on your TV just like a classic 8-bit NES Console!

Here's the actual video from the Irate Gamer talking about the Retro Mini:

Right now, you can only purchase it from the website ThinkGeek.com and it comes in two versions: the Retro Mini, and the Retro Mini X. Below are the direct link to the page where you can purchase them:
