  1. i've been on a netflix binge yesterday and today.

    yesterday:

american: the bill hicks story- apparently already popular in this thread; i concur with everyone's sentiment regarding it's awesomeness.

the man from nowhere- pretty good korean revenge flick.

irreversible- i've been meaning to see this for a while but haven't been able to muster up the nerve. it's pretty brutal and i felt nauseated during the infamous scene, which i thought i would be able to stomach a lot better than i did so that says a lot about the quality of the acting. overall though, i think that scene gets way too much emphasis through word of mouth, which is why i've sat on this film for so long now since the way people talked about it made it sound gratuitous but it definitely was not. it would not have been the same movie without that scene.

    today:

let me in- i was worried about the american version but they adapted it really well. so glad they kept the end in tact.

afghan star- doc about an afghan televised singing competition that's very popular in the country. it's nice to see a different side of the country and it's people other than war and the taliban (though it's touched on but more from a cultural standpoint).

adventures of power- comedy about an air drumming competition. i think you need to be high to think it's really funny.

dead alive- fuck, why have i waited so long to see this?! it's one of the most inspired horror movies i've ever seen. it exceeded my expectations. i. fucking. loved. it.

i totally had an experience like this but it was my GPS that was trying to get us serial killed trying to get to my grandparents' house taking an alternate route through ocala national forest. it was telling us to turn left onto this long, narrow, dark dirt road surrounded by dense forest on both sides and it had a hanging sign at the top that said Camp Winechuga (or whatever) and i'm like, Eli, no. i've seen this movie before and it doesn't end well. turn the fuck around and stick with paved roads.

ah-may-zing. can't wait for part dos.

  5. Super-movie-poster.jpg

wooooowww!!!!! super was like a much much darker, more violent, more realistic(ish) version of kick-ass. super-fucking-awesome! also, i would recommend not watching the trailer if you're going to see the movie because it doesn't portray the feel of the movie at all.

also, some things: nathan fillion is in it and it's by the guy who did slither.

    love it.

the only difference is cubans we dont do mass transit worth a crap

that's a pretty big difference though. even with the program i run, the kids can't attend most of the events that are supposed to help them connect with one another because the transportation system is shitty and their parents view it as unsafe. i realize that cities with better transportation systems are usually more centralized but even chicago has commuter trains that stem out into the suburbs, which is pretty cool. miami was a poorly planned city.

Only reason we'd settle in Miami is to be closer to the Hondos social hub. Seems nice, but having lived in the tourist-y place where the locals can't drive for shit, I'll take somewhere cheaper, thanks.

and you guys would make miami a more pleasant place to live, battle-driving and all. :)

  8. I was talking to a girl at a store when I first moved up here and she said most of her friends decided to go to school in Miami after going for Spring Break and falling in love with the place. All I could think of was, "Wait until they get lost in Liberty City..."

yeah, seriously. i mean, i get it, it's a beautiful city, but just wait until you have an actual job and have to battle-drive through miami every morning and evening. that gets old pretty quick.

super accurate...every time a spring breaker says they want to move to miami, i feel like my eyes are going to roll out of my head.

  10. thought we were going to see Super but apparently it's only limited release (boooooo!!!). saw source code instead. aside from thinking the movie was going to end 3-4 separate times it was more or less entertaining. but i need to add the disclaimer that i would marry jake gyllenhaal and have 10 thousand of his babies soooooooo i may have some bias. he's a great actor though.
